About Our HVAC Services in Round Rock

Round Rock has grown dramatically over the past few decades, and so has the range of HVAC challenges homeowners face here. Older homes in neighborhoods like Brushy Creek and Forest Creek often have aging equipment and ductwork that hasn't kept pace with the demands of Central Texas summers. Newer developments on the north end of town bring their own quirks — oversized units, improper commissioning, and warranty gaps that leave homeowners with comfort problems nobody warned them about. Cold is on the Right knows both sides of that spectrum.

We provide full-service HVAC care across Round Rock, including AC repair, heating service, heat pump work, system replacements, and ongoing maintenance. Our technicians explain what they find, give you real options with real pricing, and never recommend work you don't need. If you've done the research and want a contractor you can actually trust, we're ready to earn that trust on every call.

HVAC Services We Provide in Round Rock

AC Repair

When your air conditioner stops cooling in the middle of a Round Rock summer, you need fast, accurate service. We diagnose everything from refrigerant leaks and failed capacitors to compressor issues and frozen coils, then repair it correctly the first time. Our technicians carry common parts on the truck so most repairs happen same day.

AC Installation

Installing a new air conditioning system in a Round Rock home takes more than swapping equipment. We perform a proper load calculation to make sure your new unit is sized right for your home's layout and insulation, which makes a real difference in comfort and monthly energy costs. We install energy-efficient systems from trusted brands and handle all electrical and refrigerant work in-house.

Learn More

AC Replacement

If your current system is 12 or more years old and repairs are stacking up, replacement is often the smarter investment. We'll walk you through a straightforward cost comparison, recommend the right system for your home's square footage and ductwork, and handle the full installation from start to finish. Many Round Rock homeowners see significant drops in their energy bills after switching to a modern high-SEER unit.

Learn More

HVAC Maintenance

Regular maintenance is the single best thing you can do to extend the life of your HVAC system and avoid surprise breakdowns during peak season. Our tune-ups cover coil cleaning, refrigerant checks, electrical inspections, filter changes, and a full performance review so you know exactly where your system stands. Round Rock's heavy AC season makes spring maintenance especially important before the heat hits hard.

HVAC Repair

Not every HVAC problem originates with the air conditioner or furnace itself — ductwork leaks, thermostat failures, and control board issues are common culprits in Central Texas homes. Our technicians run targeted diagnostics across the entire system to find what's actually wrong rather than guessing. We work on all major brands and give you a clear estimate before any repair work begins.

Learn More

HVAC Replacement

When it's time for a full system replacement, we handle the entire process: equipment selection, ductwork evaluation, removal of the old unit, installation, and startup testing. We factor in your home's age, square footage, insulation quality, and utility costs to recommend a system that will actually perform well long-term. Round Rock homeowners who upgrade often notice the difference in comfort within the first week.

Learn More

Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps are an increasingly popular choice in Round Rock because they handle both heating and cooling efficiently in our mild-to-warm Central Texas climate. We assess your home's existing ductwork and electrical setup, then install and commission the system to manufacturer specs for peak performance. A properly installed heat pump can meaningfully reduce your year-round energy costs compared to separate heating and cooling systems.

Learn More

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps have unique failure modes — reversing valve issues, defrost cycle problems, and refrigerant imbalances that a general HVAC tech might misdiagnose. Our technicians are experienced with heat pump systems and can identify the root cause quickly. We service all major heat pump brands serving Round Rock homes and provide honest guidance on whether repair or replacement makes more sense given your system's age and condition.

Learn More

Heat Pump Replacement

Older heat pumps lose efficiency over time, and in a community like Round Rock where systems run hard through long summers, that wear shows up in your energy bills. When replacement makes financial sense, we help you select a modern variable-speed or two-stage heat pump that delivers better comfort and lower operating costs. We handle everything from pulling permits to final system testing.

Learn More

Furnace Repair

Round Rock winters are mild most years, but a furnace failure during a cold stretch is still a serious comfort and safety issue. We diagnose gas furnaces, electric furnaces, and heat exchangers accurately and repair them fast. Cracked heat exchangers and faulty ignition systems are the most common problems we see in older Round Rock homes, and both require professional attention before the unit is safe to run.

Learn More

Mini Splits

Ductless mini-split systems are a great fit for Round Rock homes with additions, converted garages, or rooms that never seem to reach the right temperature no matter how hard the main system works. We size, install, and configure multi-zone mini-split systems that give you precise control over individual spaces without the energy waste of conditioning rooms you're not using. They're quiet, efficient, and increasingly popular in newer Round Rock construction.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock is one of the most diverse housing markets in Central Texas, and that range creates real variation in what homeowners are dealing with. Established neighborhoods like Teravista, Paloma Lake, and Vista Oaks have homes built anywhere from the late 1980s through the 2000s, many of which are now on their second or third HVAC system. Those older systems often ran longer than they should have, meaning the ductwork, insulation, and electrical connections beneath them haven't been touched in years and may not support a modern high-efficiency unit without some updates.

Newer growth on Round Rock's northern edge brings a different set of challenges. Builder-grade equipment installed in high-volume subdivisions sometimes isn't commissioned as carefully as it should be, leading to comfort issues and premature wear that show up within the first few years of ownership. Round Rock's hot, humid summers push systems hard, and the area's clay-heavy soil shifts foundations enough over time to stress ductwork connections in ways homeowners don't always notice until energy bills spike. We've seen all of it, and that experience means we diagnose accurately rather than just replacing parts until something works.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my HVAC system needs repair or full replacement?
The general rule of thumb is the 5,000 rule: multiply the age of your system by the estimated repair cost. If that number exceeds $5,000, replacement often makes more financial sense. For Round Rock homes with systems older than 12 to 15 years, efficiency losses alone can cost hundreds of dollars a year in higher energy bills, so even a working older unit may be costing you more than a new one would. We provide a free estimate and a straightforward comparison so you can make the decision with real numbers in front of you, not guesswork.
What's a realistic cost range for AC replacement in Round Rock?
A standard central AC replacement in Round Rock typically runs between $4,500 and $9,000 depending on system size, efficiency rating, and whether any ductwork or electrical work is needed alongside the swap. Higher-efficiency units with SEER ratings of 16 or above cost more upfront but reduce monthly operating costs meaningfully over time. We give you a complete, itemized estimate before any work starts so there are no surprises at the end of the job.
How often should I have my HVAC system serviced in Central Texas?
In Central Texas, twice a year is the standard recommendation: once in spring before the cooling season begins, and once in fall before you start relying on heat. Round Rock's long, intense summers put significant wear on AC systems, and a spring tune-up catches small problems before they become system failures in the middle of August. Regular maintenance also keeps your warranty valid on newer equipment and can extend the overall lifespan of the system by several years.
Why are some rooms in my Round Rock home hotter than others even with the AC running?
Uneven temperatures are one of the most common complaints we hear from Round Rock homeowners, and there are several possible causes. Ductwork leaks, undersized return air vents, poor insulation in certain zones, and improperly sized equipment are the most frequent culprits. In older Round Rock homes, ductwork connections in the attic can loosen over time due to temperature cycling and foundation movement, bleeding conditioned air into unconditioned spaces before it ever reaches the room. A proper airflow diagnostic can identify exactly where the problem is and what it will take to fix it.
Do you service all HVAC brands, including older systems?
Yes, we work on all major HVAC brands including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, York, Goodman, and others. Older systems with legacy refrigerants like R-22 require special handling, and we're equipped to work on those as well, though we'll be upfront about parts availability and whether continued repair investment makes sense given the system's age and the cost of R-22 refrigerant. Round Rock has a wide mix of equipment ages, and we're experienced with all of it.
What should I check before calling for HVAC repair in Round Rock?
Before calling, check a few basics: make sure your thermostat is set correctly and the batteries are fresh, confirm the filter isn't clogged since a severely restricted filter can cause the system to freeze up or shut down entirely, and check that your circuit breaker hasn't tripped. If the outdoor condenser unit is running but the home isn't cooling, or if the system is running continuously without reaching the set temperature, those are signs of a mechanical or refrigerant issue that needs professional attention. If you notice ice on the refrigerant lines or a burning smell, shut the system off and give us a call right away.
