About Our HVAC Repair in Round Rock

Round Rock has grown into one of the most active communities in the Austin metro, and with that growth comes a wide range of homes — from older subdivisions built in the 1980s and 90s near the historic downtown to newer construction out toward Teravista and Georgetown border. That variety means we see all kinds of HVAC systems on our service calls: aging units that have run hard through decades of Texas summers, as well as newer builds with higher-efficiency equipment that needs a technician who knows the difference. We come prepared for both.

Cold is on the Right has built a reputation with Round Rock homeowners who do their homework before hiring. We get it — you're going to research reviews, check licenses, and compare options. That's exactly why we lead with transparent diagnostics, clear explanations of what we found, and pricing you can see before we start work. No pressure, no upsells you don't need, just straight answers from technicians who know this area well.

HVAC Repair Services We Provide in Round Rock

AC Repair

When your air conditioner stops cooling in the middle of a Round Rock summer, every hour matters. We diagnose and repair refrigerant leaks, capacitor failures, frozen evaporator coils, compressor issues, and more. Our techs carry common parts on the truck so many repairs get done in a single visit.

Furnace Repair

Round Rock winters are mild compared to much of the country, but when a cold front rolls in, your furnace needs to work. We repair gas furnaces, electric furnaces, and forced-air systems that are failing to heat, cycling too frequently, or not igniting. Furnace problems in homes built in the late 1980s and 1990s often involve worn heat exchangers or faulty ignitors that need prompt attention.

Learn More

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps are increasingly popular in newer Round Rock homes because they handle both heating and cooling efficiently. When a heat pump loses its ability to transfer heat, starts icing up, or goes into emergency heat mode unexpectedly, it needs a technician who understands how these systems work. We diagnose and repair heat pump issues quickly to get you back to comfort.

Heating Repairs

Not every heating issue is a full furnace failure — sometimes it's a thermostat problem, a faulty zone control, a clogged filter that's starving your system, or a blower motor going bad. We handle the full range of heating repair needs for Round Rock homeowners, no matter what type of system you have installed.

HVAC Maintenance

A lot of the emergency calls we get in Round Rock could have been caught at a tune-up. Regular HVAC maintenance keeps your system running efficiently, extends equipment life, and surfaces small problems before they become expensive ones. We offer maintenance service for both heating and cooling equipment across all makes and models.

Learn More

HVAC Replacement

If your system is 15 or more years old and repair costs are climbing, replacement may be the smarter investment. We help Round Rock homeowners weigh their options honestly — including whether a repair buys you meaningful time or whether a new high-efficiency unit makes more financial sense long-term. When replacement is the right call, we handle the full installation.

Learn More

Thermostat Repair and Replacement

A malfunctioning thermostat can make your HVAC system behave erratically — short cycling, running constantly, or failing to reach the set temperature. We diagnose whether the issue is in the thermostat itself or in the system it's communicating with. Many Round Rock homeowners also take this opportunity to upgrade to a smart thermostat for better control and energy savings.

Refrigerant Leak Detection and Recharge

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons an AC system stops cooling effectively. We locate leaks, repair them properly, and recharge the system to manufacturer specifications. Simply adding refrigerant without finding the source of the leak is a short-term fix that costs you more in the long run.

Blower Motor and Fan Repair

The blower motor circulates conditioned air throughout your home, and when it starts to fail, you'll notice weak airflow, unusual noises, or rooms that just won't reach temperature. This is a relatively common failure point in HVAC systems that have been running through many Texas summers, and it's a repair we handle regularly in Round Rock homes.

Ductwork Inspection and Repair

Leaky or disconnected ductwork can quietly waste 20 to 30 percent of your conditioned air before it ever reaches your living space. Older Round Rock homes sometimes have ductwork that has shifted, separated at joints, or was never properly sealed to begin with. We inspect and repair duct systems so your HVAC unit isn't working harder than it needs to.

Emergency HVAC Service

HVAC systems don't always fail at convenient times. When your cooling goes out on a 100-degree afternoon or your heat stops working on an overnight freeze, we offer emergency service to Round Rock homeowners who can't wait until the next business day. Call us and we'll get someone out as quickly as possible.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock has a lot of housing diversity packed into a relatively compact area. The neighborhoods around Old Settlers Park and downtown date back to the 1980s, where the original HVAC systems — if not yet replaced — are operating well past their typical lifespan and showing the wear of decades of hard Texas summers. Meanwhile, the newer subdivisions springing up on the eastern and northern edges of the city are full of larger homes with higher-tonnage systems, sometimes installed on tight construction timelines that can result in sizing or ductwork issues that only show up after a few seasons of use.

The Round Rock area also sits in a region where hard water from the Edwards Aquifer and local municipal supplies can accelerate wear on HVAC components that interact with water, including condensate lines and drain pans that clog faster than you might expect. The heat load here is real — triple-digit temperatures for weeks at a stretch put serious stress on equipment, and a system that was running fine in April can be failing by late June. We know what to look for in this climate and in these homes, and that familiarity means faster, more accurate diagnostics when we show up at your door.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does HVAC repair typically cost in Round Rock?
HVAC repair costs in Round Rock can range quite a bit depending on what's wrong. Minor repairs like a capacitor replacement or thermostat swap might run $150 to $350. Mid-range repairs such as a blower motor or contactor failure often fall between $300 and $600. More significant work like a refrigerant leak repair and recharge can run $400 to $900 or more depending on the refrigerant type and how much is needed. A failed compressor on an older unit is typically expensive enough that replacement becomes worth considering. We provide a firm quote before starting any work so you know exactly where you stand.
How long does an HVAC repair take?
Most common HVAC repairs in Round Rock take between one and three hours once we're on site and have diagnosed the issue. Repairs like capacitor replacements, contactor swaps, or thermostat installations are often completed within an hour. More involved repairs, such as refrigerant leak detection and recharge or blower motor replacement, may take two to three hours. If we need to source a less common part, there could be a short wait, but we stock the most frequently needed components on our service vehicles to minimize delays. We'll give you a realistic time estimate once we know what we're working with.
Is it better to repair or replace my HVAC system?
The general rule of thumb is to multiply the repair cost by the age of the system in years. If that number exceeds the cost of a new system, replacement is usually the smarter financial move. For Round Rock homeowners with systems from the 1990s or early 2000s, this calculation often tips toward replacement, especially if the unit uses R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer manufactured and very expensive to source. A system that is 12 to 15 years old and requiring a repair over $1,000 is a common situation where we recommend at least getting a replacement quote for comparison. We'll give you an honest recommendation either way.
Why is my AC running but not cooling my Round Rock home?
There are several common reasons an AC runs without cooling effectively in Central Texas. Low refrigerant from a leak is one of the most frequent culprits, and it causes the system to lose its heat transfer capacity. A frozen evaporator coil — often caused by restricted airflow from a dirty filter or blocked vents — can also prevent cooling while the system keeps running. A failing capacitor or a dirty condenser coil that can't reject heat outdoors are other common issues we see regularly in Round Rock. Triple-digit temperatures put extreme load on outdoor units, so components that were marginal in spring often fail outright once summer arrives. A diagnostic visit will pinpoint the cause quickly.
How often should I have my HVAC system serviced in Round Rock?
For most Round Rock homes, we recommend servicing your AC system once a year in the spring before cooling season begins, and your heating system once a year in the fall before you need it. The Central Texas climate is hard on HVAC equipment — long, intense cooling seasons and hard water that can clog condensate lines faster than in other parts of the country mean your system benefits from consistent preventive care. Regular maintenance also keeps manufacturer warranties valid on newer systems. Skipping annual service is one of the most common reasons we see premature equipment failure in this area.
Do you offer emergency HVAC repair in Round Rock?
Yes, we offer emergency HVAC service for Round Rock homeowners who can't wait for a standard appointment. A cooling failure during a Texas summer heat wave or a heating failure during an overnight freeze are situations where waiting until Monday morning is not a reasonable option. When you contact us for emergency service, we'll get a technician to you as quickly as possible. Emergency service calls may carry an after-hours fee, which we'll let you know upfront before dispatching. We believe you should know what you're agreeing to before anyone shows up at your door.
