About Our Outdoor Plumbing Services

At Cold is on the Right, we believe adding plumbing to your outdoor living space should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Our locally owned team handles the plumbing side of your project from the initial evaluation through rough-in work, testing, and final fixture or appliance connections.

Whether you are building a complete outdoor kitchen, adding a sink to an existing patio, installing a built-in gas grill, or repairing a leaking outdoor faucet, we take the time to understand your plans and evaluate the existing plumbing system. We explain what your project requires, identify the best way to route water, drain, or gas lines, and provide clear recommendations before work begins.

Outdoor plumbing requires careful planning. Pipes may need to travel beneath patios, through exterior walls, or across portions of the property. Drainage must be properly designed, gas lines must be correctly sized, and exposed components need to be appropriate for Austin’s heat, occasional freezing temperatures, and changing weather conditions.

Our plumbers work carefully to create an outdoor plumbing system that is safe, convenient, and built to support the way you want to use your backyard.

Same Day Plumbing Services

Plumbing emergencies can quickly disrupt your home, damage property, and create unnecessary stress. Cold is on the Right provides same-day plumbing service throughout the Austin area with fast response times, professional repairs, and transparent pricing for many common plumbing issues and emergency calls.

Outdoor Plumbing Services We Provide

Outdoor Kitchen Plumbing

An outdoor kitchen can make cooking, dining, and entertaining more enjoyable, but the plumbing should be planned before cabinets, countertops, pavers, and finished surfaces are installed. Our plumbers provide water supply lines, drain connections, shutoff valves, sink plumbing, and other essential plumbing work for new and remodeled outdoor kitchens.

We can review your planned kitchen layout, determine where plumbing connections are needed, and coordinate the installation around grills, sinks, refrigerators, ice makers, and other outdoor appliances. By involving a plumber early, you can reduce the risk of costly changes after the kitchen has already been built.

Outdoor Sink Installation

An outdoor sink makes food preparation, cleanup, gardening, and entertaining more convenient. We install plumbing connections and perform faucet installation for outdoor kitchen sinks, patio wet bars, preparation sinks, potting stations, and other exterior work areas. We install and replace outdoor-rated faucets, shutoff valves, strainers, and related fixtures.

Our plumbers can evaluate access to existing water and drain lines, install the necessary supply connections, and make sure wastewater is routed appropriately.

Gas Lines for Outdoor Grills

A permanent gas line allows you to use a built-in grill without regularly replacing or refilling portable propane tanks. Our licensed plumbers install gas lines for outdoor grills, side burners, pizza ovens, and other gas-powered cooking appliances.

We evaluate the appliance requirements, determine whether the existing gas system can support the added demand, properly size the line, install accessible shutoff valves, and test the completed system. Gas line installation should always be completed by a qualified professional who understands safety and applicable code requirements.

Gas Lines for Fire Pits and Fireplaces

Gas fire pits and outdoor fireplaces can add warmth and atmosphere to a patio or backyard. We provide gas line installation for permanent outdoor fire features, including fire pits, fireplaces, fire tables, and select patio heating equipment.

Before installation, our team reviews the location of the feature, the appliance specifications, the distance from the existing gas supply, and the amount of gas the system requires.

We then complete gas line installation and repair to meet safety and code requirements so the finished feature can operate safely and reliably.

Outdoor Faucet and Hose Bib Services

Outdoor faucets are easy to overlook until they begin leaking, lose pressure, or stop working entirely. Our plumbers repair and replace hose bibs and exterior faucets throughout the Austin area.

We can address leaking connections, damaged fixtures, corroded components, poor water pressure, loose handles, and freeze-related damage. Frost-free hose bibs help prevent burst pipes in cold weather. In many cases, replacement with frost-free hose bibs can extend the life of outdoor faucets. We can also evaluate options for adding a new outdoor faucet in a more convenient location for watering, washing vehicles, cleaning patios, filling containers, or caring for landscaping while helping improve water efficiency through the right fixture and placement.

Outdoor Shower Plumbing

An outdoor shower or rinse station can be a useful addition near a pool, patio, garden, pet area, or detached guest space. Our plumbers can evaluate the water supply, fixture placement, drainage requirements, and hot water needs for your planned installation.

Depending on the project, outdoor shower plumbing may include hot and cold water lines, shower valves, outdoor-rated fixtures, shutoff access, and drain connections. We focus on the plumbing components while coordinating with the homeowner or contractor responsible for the surrounding enclosure and finished surfaces.

Water Lines for Patios and Detached Spaces

Cabanas, pool houses, detached garages, guest houses, workshops, and backyard offices may require water connections to support sinks, bathrooms, wet bars, appliances, or utility fixtures.

Our plumbers can evaluate whether water lines can be extended to the new space and determine the most practical route based on the property layout, distance, elevation, and existing plumbing system. We install and repair exterior water lines with long-term reliability and convenient shutoff access in mind.

Outdoor Drain and Wastewater Connections

Outdoor sinks, showers, bars, and kitchens need more than a water supply. They also require properly planned drainage. An improperly routed drain can lead to standing water, leaks, odors, slow drainage, or unsanitary conditions, and the right drainage solutions are essential for handling heavy rainfall runoff in Austin.

We install and repair drain connections for exterior plumbing fixtures and outdoor living areas. Common outdoor plumbing work can also include drain cleaning for exterior drains or sewer line cleaning when blockages affect outdoor fixtures. Our team evaluates the planned fixture location, the existing drainage system, elevation, venting needs, and other site conditions before recommending the appropriate solution.

Outdoor Appliance Connections

Outdoor kitchens can include sinks, ice makers, refrigerators, dishwashers, pizza ovens, and other appliances that require dedicated water, drain, or gas connections. Our plumbers handle the plumbing needed to support these features, including rough-in work and final plumbing connections to the correct locations.

For built-in grills and other integrated appliances, the appliance itself is typically delivered, assembled, and set in place by another contractor. Once it is properly positioned, our team can complete the appropriate plumbing or gas connection so everything is ready for use.

Outdoor Plumbing Leak Detection and Repair

Outdoor plumbing leaks are not always easy to recognize. A leaking underground water line may appear as an unusually wet area, a patch of rapidly growing grass, reduced water pressure, or an unexpected increase in your water bill. In Austin, clay soils can shift and affect buried exterior lines.

Our plumbers perform a detailed inspection of outdoor pipes, fixtures, supply connections, and water lines to identify the source of the problem. Once the leak is located, we explain the available plumbing repair options and complete the work carefully, since fast repairs help limit water damage that can begin immediately during a plumbing emergency.. Austin’s mineral-rich water can also lead to mineral buildup that contributes to corrosion, pressure problems, leaks, and eventually extensive damage if it is not addressed.

Backflow Prevention

Backflow prevention helps stop contaminated water from flowing backward into the clean water supply. Certain exterior plumbing systems, irrigation connections, hose attachments, and outdoor fixtures may require backflow protection depending on their configuration.

Our licensed plumbers install and replace backflow prevention devices for properties that need additional water-supply protection. We evaluate the plumbing setup, install the appropriate device, and make sure it is correctly connected.

Outdoor Plumbing Maintenance

Outdoor plumbing is exposed to weather, temperature changes, moisture, dirt, and regular wear. Routine plumbing inspections can help identify leaking faucets, deteriorating connections, damaged pipe insulation, drainage problems, corrosion, hard water, or other concerns before they become more expensive repairs. In Austin, water hardness is typically 110 to 120 ppm and can affect exterior fixtures over time.

Our plumbers can evaluate outdoor fixtures, exposed pipes, shutoff valves, gas connections, water pressure, and drain performance to help protect your home's plumbing system and keep your plumbing running smoothly. Proactive maintenance is especially helpful before freezing weather or before regularly using an outdoor kitchen for the spring and summer entertaining seasons.

New Outdoor Installations, Remodels, and Repairs

Building a New Outdoor Living Space

The best time to involve a plumber is before concrete, pavers, cabinets, counters, and finished flooring are installed. Early planning allows water, drain, and gas lines to be routed more efficiently and helps prevent unnecessary changes later in the project.

Our plumbers can review your plans, identify the plumbing requirements, complete rough-in work, test the system, and return for final connections when the surrounding construction is ready.

Remodeling an Existing Patio or Outdoor Kitchen

You do not need to build an entirely new backyard to improve its function. We can help with plumbing upgrades for an existing patio, grill area, or outdoor kitchen.

This may include adding or relocating a sink, extending a gas line, replacing fixtures, updating shutoff valves, correcting drainage problems, or connecting a new appliance. Our team will evaluate the existing system and explain what is possible based on the layout and available utility connections.

Repairing Existing Outdoor Plumbing

Outdoor plumbing problems can interfere with cooking, entertaining, gardening, and routine property care. Our plumbers repair leaking faucets, damaged water lines, clogged fixture drains, corroded connections, low water pressure, gas line concerns, and other outdoor plumbing issues. When exterior lines are too worn to fix reliably, repiping or pipe replacement may be the better long-term solution with durable new materials.

We arrive prepared with outdoor plumbing repair services to diagnose the problem, explain the repair options, and restore dependable service whenever possible.

Our Outdoor Plumbing Process

Start With a Conversation

We begin by learning about your project, whether you are building a complete outdoor kitchen, adding a gas grill, installing a patio sink, or repairing an existing outdoor fixture. We review your goals, planned layout, appliance requirements, and construction schedule.

Assess the Property and Existing Plumbing

Our plumbers evaluate the available water, drain, and gas connections. We consider the distance to the outdoor space, fixture placement, elevation, access, utility capacity, and any finished surfaces that could affect the installation.

Explain Your Options

Once we understand the project, we explain what plumbing work is needed and provide clear recommendations. You receive upfront pricing before work begins, so you can make an informed decision without hidden fees or surprise costs.

Complete the Rough-In Work

For larger projects, we install the water, drainage, or gas lines before cabinets, counters, concrete, pavers, or finished surfaces are completed. We coordinate with the project schedule and test the plumbing before it is covered.

Make the Final Connections

When the outdoor kitchen, patio, or structure is ready, our team can return to connect approved sinks, faucets, grills, fire features, or other fixtures and appliances. We test the completed system and make sure the plumbing is functioning properly. Final hookups are completed with professional installation practices so approved fixtures and appliances operate correctly.

Working With Outdoor Kitchen Contractors and Builders

Outdoor living projects often involve multiple contractors. Cold is on the Right can coordinate the plumbing portion of the project with:

Outdoor kitchen installers

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Outdoor Plumbing Questions

What outdoor plumbing services do you offer in Austin, TX?
Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air provides outdoor plumbing services for Austin-area homeowners, including plumbing for outdoor kitchens, sinks, faucets, grills, fire pits, fireplaces, cabanas, detached spaces, and other backyard living areas. We install and repair water lines, drain connections, gas lines, fixtures, hose bibs, backflow devices, water filtration, and related plumbing components. Common outdoor services also include hose bib repair and sewer line cleaning.
Can you install plumbing for an outdoor kitchen?
Yes. Our plumbers can install water supply lines, drain connections, shutoff valves, sinks, faucets, gas lines, and other plumbing components for outdoor kitchens. We can work with the homeowner, outdoor kitchen installer, or general contractor to coordinate the plumbing around the project timeline.
When should I call a plumber during an outdoor kitchen project?
You should involve a plumber as early as possible, ideally before concrete, pavers, cabinets, countertops, or finished flooring are installed. Early planning makes it easier to route the water, drain, and gas lines and can help prevent costly changes later.
Can you add an outdoor sink to an existing patio?
Yes, depending on the location and access to the existing plumbing system. Our plumbers will evaluate the distance to the nearest water and drain lines, the patio construction, elevation, and the planned sink location before recommending an installation approach.
Does an outdoor sink need a drain connection?
Yes. Outdoor sinks need an appropriate way to manage wastewater. Depending on the project and local plumbing codes, this may involve a traditional drain connection or an approved greywater waste system. Our plumbers can evaluate the property, intended use, and local requirements to determine the right drainage option for your outdoor sink.
Can an outdoor kitchen sink have hot and cold water?
Yes. An outdoor kitchen sink may be supplied with cold water only or both hot and cold water. The right setup depends on how the sink will be used, its location, and the practicality of extending a hot water line to the outdoor space. In Austin, plumbing work must follow local requirements, and the city’s plumbing code is based on the International Plumbing Code. If hot water is being extended outdoors, related work may need to meet local code and permit rules, and water heaters commonly require permits and inspections when installed or replaced.
Do you install gas lines for outdoor grills?
Yes. Our licensed plumbers install gas lines for built-in outdoor grills and other compatible cooking appliances. We review the appliance specifications, calculate the gas demand, properly size the line, install necessary shutoff valves, and test the completed system.
Can you install a gas line for a fire pit?
Yes. We provide gas line installation for permanent outdoor fire pits, fire tables, fireplaces, and select patio heating features. The exact installation depends on the location, appliance specifications, fuel type, line distance, and available gas capacity.
Is a permanent gas line better than using propane tanks?
A permanent natural gas or propane connection can be more convenient because it reduces the need to replace portable tanks. However, the right option depends on the appliance, available fuel source, property layout, installation cost, and how frequently the feature will be used.
Can I install an outdoor gas line myself?
Gas line installation should not be treated as a do-it-yourself project. Incorrect pipe sizing, connections, materials, or testing can create a serious safety risk. Gas piping should be installed and tested by a qualified licensed professional.
Can you connect a gas pizza oven or side burner?
Yes, provided the appliance is designed for the available fuel source and the existing gas system can support the additional demand. Our plumbers review the appliance specifications before installing the connection.
Do you install outdoor showers?
Our plumbers can evaluate plumbing for outdoor showers and rinse stations, including water supply lines, valves, fixtures, and drainage connections. The exact scope depends on the location, planned design, available hot and cold water, and surrounding construction.
Can you install plumbing in a cabana or pool house?
Yes, depending on the property layout and project requirements. We can evaluate water, drain, and gas connections for cabanas, pool houses, detached garages, guest spaces, workshops, and other structures.
Can you install an outdoor faucet in a new location?
Yes. We can evaluate options for adding an outdoor faucet or hose bib in a more convenient location. The installation depends on access to an existing water line, the distance involved, wall construction, pipe routing, and the desired fixture location.
Can you repair a leaking outdoor faucet?
Yes. We repair and replace leaking hose bibs and outdoor faucets. Common causes include worn washers, damaged internal components, loose connections, corrosion, high water pressure, and freeze damage.
Why is my outdoor faucet leaking?
An outdoor faucet may leak because of a worn seal, damaged valve, loose connection, corrosion, high water pressure, or a crack caused by freezing temperatures. A plumber can inspect the fixture and determine whether it can be repaired or should be replaced.
Can outdoor plumbing freeze in Austin?
Yes. Although Austin has a generally warm climate, temperatures can still fall below freezing. Outdoor faucets, exposed pipes, and water lines in unprotected areas may freeze, crack, or burst during cold weather.
How can I protect outdoor plumbing during a freeze?
Disconnect garden hoses, drain exposed fixtures when possible, cover exterior faucets, protect vulnerable pipes, and follow local freeze-preparation guidance. Know where your water shutoff is located so you can respond quickly if a pipe breaks.
How do I know if I have an underground outdoor water leak?
Possible signs include wet soil, unusually green patches of grass, reduced water pressure, standing water, erosion, or an unexplained increase in your water bill. Some leaks may not produce visible signs, so professional testing may be needed. If the leak appears to be on the utility side, Austin Water may need to be contacted, while leaks on the property side should be handled by a licensed plumber.
Do you repair underground water lines?
Yes. We provide water line inspections and repairs for leaks, breaks, pressure problems, and aging exterior pipes. The repair approach depends on the location, pipe material, damage, accessibility, and surrounding surfaces.
Can you help with a slow outdoor sink drain?
Yes. A slow outdoor sink may be caused by buildup, debris, an improper drain slope, a venting issue, tree roots, or a blockage farther inside the line. Our plumbers can inspect the fixture and drainage connection to determine the cause. If buildup or roots are deeper in the line, hydro jetting may be recommended to clear the blockage more thoroughly.
What is backflow prevention, and do I need it outdoors?
Backflow prevention helps stop contaminated water from reversing direction and entering the clean water supply. Certain exterior fixtures, irrigation connections, hose attachments, and outdoor plumbing configurations may require a backflow prevention device.
Do outdoor plumbing projects require permits in Austin?
Some outdoor plumbing projects may require permits or inspections depending on the scope of the work. New gas lines, underground water or wastewater connections, and plumbing installed as part of a larger construction project may be subject to local requirements. Our team will verify the applicable local plumbing codes and permitting requirements for the plumbing portion of your project.
Can you move an existing outdoor sink or gas appliance?
In many cases, yes. The feasibility and cost depend on the new location, pipe routing, drainage, gas capacity, finished surfaces, and access to existing utilities. Our plumbers can inspect the property and explain the available options.
How much does outdoor plumbing cost?
The cost depends on the project. Service calls can vary based on access, materials, trenching, and whether prior work needs to be corrected. Important factors include the distance from existing water, drain, or gas lines, the number of fixtures and appliances, trenching, accessibility, materials, appliance demand, drainage requirements, and whether finished surfaces must be disturbed. We provide upfront pricing after evaluating the project.
Do you provide outdoor plumbing repairs as well as new installations?
Yes. We repair leaking faucets, damaged water lines, drain problems, gas line concerns, low water pressure, freeze damage, corroded connections, and other issues affecting existing outdoor plumbing.
Do you offer financing for outdoor plumbing projects?
Financing options may be available for larger plumbing installations and major outdoor living projects. Our team can explain available financing options and help you understand how to apply.
What areas do you serve?
Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air serves Austin and surrounding communities, including Bee Cave, Cedar Park, Dripping Springs, Georgetown, Lakeway, Leander, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Spicewood, Steiner Ranch, Westlake, and nearby areas.
Why should I choose Cold is on the Right for outdoor plumbing?
