About Our Heating Repairs in Round Rock

Round Rock has grown fast, and that means the heating systems across this city span a pretty wide range. Some homes in older neighborhoods like Brushy Creek or Forest Creek are running furnaces that have been in place since the early 1990s, and those systems need a different kind of attention than a heat pump in a newer development off University Boulevard. Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air has worked on all of it, and we understand the difference between a system that just needs a tune-up and one that's genuinely on its last legs.

Round Rock homeowners do their homework before they hire anyone, and we respect that. That's why we show up with transparent pricing, explain what we found in plain language, and give you real options instead of pushing the most expensive solution. We're not a call center operation with rotating technicians — we're a local company that stands behind our work and wants to still be your go-to heating contractor five years from now.

Heating Repairs We Provide in Round Rock

Furnace Repair

Whether it's a failed ignitor, a cracked heat exchanger, or a blower motor that's given out, we diagnose and repair furnaces of all makes and models. Many Round Rock homes have gas furnaces installed in the late 1990s and 2000s that are hitting the age where components start to fail — catching those issues early can extend a system's life significantly.

Furnace Replacement

When repair costs are stacking up or your furnace has passed the 15-to-20-year mark, replacement is often the smarter investment. We help Round Rock homeowners evaluate their options honestly and install efficient, properly sized systems that match the home's layout and insulation profile.

Furnace Installation

New construction in Round Rock's fast-growing corridors sometimes comes with builder-grade equipment that underperforms, and older homes being updated need systems sized to current load calculations. We install furnaces correctly from the start so you're not dealing with uneven heating or early breakdowns.

Learn More

HVAC Repair

Your heating and cooling systems are connected, and a problem in one part of the system often affects the other. We handle full HVAC diagnostics and repairs for Round Rock homes, covering everything from refrigerant issues and electrical faults to thermostat problems and airflow restrictions.

Learn More

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps are increasingly common in newer Round Rock neighborhoods because they handle both heating and cooling efficiently in Central Texas's mild winters. When a heat pump stops producing warm air or freezes up during a cold stretch, we trace the problem to its source and get it running again.

Learn More

Thermostat Repair and Replacement

A failing thermostat can make a perfectly good heating system behave erratically, short-cycling, refusing to reach set temperature, or simply not responding. We test and replace thermostats including smart thermostat models that many tech-forward Round Rock homeowners prefer, and we make sure the new unit is properly calibrated to your system.

Heating System Diagnostics

Sometimes the system isn't completely dead but something is clearly off — strange noises, inconsistent heat, rooms that stay cold no matter what. Our diagnostic process goes beyond a surface-level check, using the right tools to identify the root cause so we're fixing the actual problem, not guessing at symptoms.

Ductwork Inspection and Repair

Leaky or poorly connected ductwork is one of the most common reasons a heating system underperforms, especially in homes that have been added onto or remodeled over the years. We inspect duct runs, seal leaks, and correct connections that are robbing your system of efficiency and sending conditioned air into attic spaces instead of living areas.

Pilot Light and Ignition Repair

A furnace that won't ignite is often a sign of a faulty ignitor, a dirty flame sensor, or a problem with the gas valve. These are some of the most common repair calls we get in Round Rock during the first cold week of the season, and we carry the most frequently needed parts so we can resolve them on the first visit in most cases.

Blower Motor Repair and Replacement

The blower motor is responsible for moving heated air through your home, and when it fails you'll notice weak airflow or no airflow at all even though the burners are firing. Blower motor repairs are common in systems that are 10 to 15 years old, which covers a large portion of the housing stock in established Round Rock neighborhoods.

Heat Exchanger Inspection

A cracked heat exchanger is a serious safety issue that allows combustion gases to mix with the air circulating through your home. We inspect heat exchangers thoroughly, particularly in older furnaces, and provide honest assessments — we'll tell you if a repair is viable or if replacement is the right call for your family's safety.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock's housing stock tells a real story about how fast this city grew. The neighborhoods built out in the 1980s and early 1990s near downtown and Old Settlers Park have furnaces and duct systems that are at or past the end of their expected lifespan, and those systems fail in predictable ways that we've seen hundreds of times. The newer developments that pushed north and east over the last decade are more likely to have heat pumps and two-stage systems, which require a different diagnostic approach and a technician who actually understands how those systems behave in Central Texas winters rather than the colder climates they were originally designed for.

Round Rock's hard water is hard on equipment over time, and the area's temperature swings — mild most of the winter, then a genuine freeze every few years — mean heating systems sit idle for months and then get pushed hard when a cold front moves through. That pattern of infrequent but intense use accelerates wear on ignition components and heat exchangers in particular. We factor all of that into how we service and repair heating systems here, and it's one of the reasons Round Rock homeowners who've done their research tend to stick with Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air year after year.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a heating repair typically cost in Round Rock?
Heating repair costs in Round Rock vary quite a bit depending on what's wrong. A simple fix like replacing an ignitor or a flame sensor typically runs between $150 and $350 including labor. More involved repairs like a blower motor replacement can range from $350 to $600, and a heat exchanger issue can push costs higher depending on the system's age and whether replacement becomes the more sensible option. We always provide upfront pricing after diagnosis so you know the full cost before we start any work.
My furnace is blowing cold air — what's causing it?
Cold air from a furnace is one of the more common complaints we hear, and it usually points to a handful of specific issues. A failed ignitor or dirty flame sensor means the burners aren't lighting even though the blower is running. A tripped high-limit switch — often caused by restricted airflow from a clogged filter — can shut down the burners while the fan keeps running. In some cases, a malfunctioning gas valve or a problem with the control board is the culprit. Changing your air filter is always worth trying first, but if that doesn't resolve it, a technician needs to diagnose it properly.
Is it worth repairing a furnace that's more than 15 years old?
It depends on the repair cost relative to the system's remaining value. A common benchmark is the 50 percent rule: if the repair cost is more than 50 percent of what a new system would cost, replacement usually makes more financial sense. A 15-to-20-year-old furnace in Round Rock is also likely running at a much lower efficiency rating than modern equipment, so a new system often pays back some of its cost in lower energy bills. We'll give you an honest assessment rather than automatically recommending the most expensive path.
How long does a heating repair usually take?
Most heating repairs in Round Rock can be completed in a single visit that runs anywhere from one to three hours. Common repairs like ignitor replacements, thermostat swaps, or flame sensor cleanings are usually done in under two hours. More complex jobs involving blower motors, control boards, or ductwork repairs may take longer, and if a specific part needs to be ordered, there may be a delay of a day or two. We stock the most commonly needed parts in our service vehicles to minimize those situations.
What should I do if my heat goes out during a freeze in Round Rock?
First, check your thermostat settings and make sure it's set to heat mode and the temperature is set above the current room temperature. Then check your air filter — a heavily clogged filter can cause the system to shut itself down as a safety measure. Check your circuit breaker panel for any tripped breakers. If your furnace has a pilot light, check whether it's still lit. If none of those steps restore heat, call for emergency service. During freeze events in Round Rock, we prioritize households with young children, elderly residents, and anyone without an alternative heat source.
Does Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air service heat pumps, or just traditional furnaces?
We service both heat pumps and traditional gas furnaces, which matters in Round Rock because the housing stock includes a real mix of both systems. Newer subdivisions built over the last ten to fifteen years are more likely to have heat pumps, while older homes tend to have gas furnaces. Heat pump diagnostics require a different skill set than furnace repair, including knowledge of refrigerant systems and reversing valve operation, and our technicians are trained on both. If your heat pump is blowing cool air in heating mode or icing up during cold weather, those are issues we diagnose and repair regularly.
