About Our AC Repair Services in Round Rock

Cold is on the Right has been working in Round Rock long enough to know that this city isn't one-size-fits-all. You've got older ranch-style homes off A.W. Grimes with original ductwork, mid-2000s builds in Teravista dealing with oversized systems, and newer construction in Stone Canyon where the install was rushed and the warranty questions are already starting. Our technicians service all major AC brands and handle everything from refrigerant issues and capacitor failures to full system diagnostics and thermostat troubleshooting. Whatever your system, whatever the problem, we come prepared.

Round Rock homeowners tend to do their homework before hiring anyone, and we respect that. Our approach is straightforward: we diagnose the problem, explain exactly what we found, give you a clear price, and let you decide how to move forward. No pressure, no upselling services you don't need. If a repair makes sense, we'll say so. If your system has reached the point where repair is throwing good money after bad, we'll tell you that too — and walk you through your options.

AC Repair Services We Provide in Round Rock

Central AC System Diagnostics

When your system isn't cooling properly and you're not sure why, a thorough diagnostic is the right starting point. We check electrical components, refrigerant levels, airflow, thermostat communication, and system pressures to pinpoint exactly what's failing. Round Rock homes with aging systems often have multiple small issues compounding into one big problem — we find all of it before we recommend a fix.

Learn More

Refrigerant Leak Detection and Recharge

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons an AC system blows warm air in the Texas heat. We locate the leak, repair it properly, and recharge the system to the correct level for your unit. Simply adding refrigerant without fixing the underlying leak is a temporary patch — we make sure the repair actually holds.

Learn More

Capacitor and Contactor Replacement

Capacitors and contactors take a beating in a climate like Round Rock's, where AC systems run hard from April through October. These components fail frequently in systems over 8 to 10 years old and are a leading cause of units that won't start or that shut off unexpectedly. Replacement is typically fast and cost-effective, and it can save you from a full system breakdown on the hottest day of the year.

Learn More

Evaporator and Condenser Coil Repair

Dirty or damaged coils force your system to work harder than it should, driving up energy bills and shortening equipment life. In Round Rock, where systems run for months without a break, coil issues are a regular finding during service calls. We clean, inspect, and repair coils as needed to restore efficient heat transfer and consistent cooling throughout your home.

Learn More

Blower Motor and Fan Repair

A failing blower motor means weak or uneven airflow — some rooms get cold while others stay stuffy no matter how low you set the thermostat. This is a common complaint in larger Round Rock homes where the system is already working hard to cover more square footage. We diagnose motor issues, replace worn components, and restore proper airflow balance across your whole house.

Learn More

Thermostat Troubleshooting and Replacement

A malfunctioning thermostat can make a perfectly functional AC system behave erratically — short-cycling, not responding to temperature changes, or running constantly without ever reaching the set point. Round Rock homeowners who've upgraded to smart thermostats sometimes run into compatibility issues with older HVAC equipment. We troubleshoot the full communication chain between your thermostat and your system to find where the problem actually lives.

Learn More

Ductwork Inspection and Repair

Leaky or damaged ductwork is a hidden efficiency killer that's especially common in Round Rock homes built in the 1980s and 1990s, where flex duct has had decades to sag, disconnect, or develop gaps at the joints. When conditioned air escapes into your attic instead of reaching your living space, your AC works harder and your energy bills climb. We inspect duct systems and seal or repair problem areas to restore proper delivery.

Learn More

Drain Line Cleaning and Condensate Repair

Clogged condensate drain lines are one of the most preventable causes of AC shutdowns and water damage in Central Texas. High humidity during Round Rock summers means your system pulls significant moisture out of the air, and that drain line needs to stay clear. We flush and clean the line, check the float switch, and make sure water is draining away from your unit and your home properly.

Learn More

AC System Tune-Up and Preventive Maintenance

Catching small problems before they become expensive failures is especially valuable in Round Rock, where the cooling season is long and systems don't get much of a rest. A professional tune-up covers cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and performance testing across all major components. It's the best way to protect the investment you've already made in your equipment.

Learn More

AC Replacement Consultation

Sometimes the most honest thing we can do is tell you that repair isn't the right answer. If your system is aging, requires repeated service calls, or simply can't keep up with your home's cooling load, replacement may save you money in the long run. We walk you through your options for efficient replacement systems sized correctly for your home and your budget.

Commercial AC Repair

Round Rock's growing business community — from storefronts along 45 to office parks near the Dell campus — needs AC systems that stay reliable through long operating hours and heavy Texas summers. We provide commercial AC repair for light commercial properties, diagnosing problems quickly to minimize downtime and keep your space comfortable for employees and customers.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock has a wide range of housing stock, and that matters when it comes to AC repair. Older neighborhoods near downtown and off Forest Creek have homes from the 1980s and early 1990s with original or once-replaced HVAC systems that are now approaching the end of their service life. These systems often have undersized ductwork, aging equipment, and components that haven't been serviced in years. We've worked on enough of them to know exactly where they tend to fail and what a realistic repair versus replacement conversation looks like for a homeowner on that side of town.

The newer subdivisions that have grown up along 1431 and near Teravista tell a different story. Construction-phase equipment choices don't always prioritize long-term performance, and some of those systems were never sized quite right for the square footage they're covering. Add in the clay soils and temperature swings that are common across Williamson County, and you've got conditions that accelerate wear on equipment faster than the manufacturer's specs might suggest. Our technicians work in Round Rock regularly and bring that hands-on familiarity to every call.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does AC repair typically cost in Round Rock?
The cost of AC repair in Round Rock varies depending on what's actually wrong with the system. A straightforward fix like a capacitor replacement might run $150 to $300, while a refrigerant leak repair with recharge can range from $300 to $600 or more depending on the refrigerant type and how much is needed. More involved repairs involving coils, blower motors, or control boards can run higher. We always provide upfront pricing after the diagnostic so you know exactly what you're approving before any work begins. There are no surprise charges added after the job starts.
How long does an AC repair appointment take in Round Rock?
Most residential AC repairs in Round Rock are completed in one visit, typically taking between one and three hours depending on the complexity of the issue. Simple component replacements like capacitors or contactors are usually on the faster end. More involved repairs that require accessing refrigerant lines, cleaning coils, or troubleshooting a control board may take longer. We give you a realistic time estimate when we're on-site and after we've diagnosed the issue, so you're not left guessing about your afternoon.
My AC was installed when my Round Rock home was built in the 1990s. Is it worth repairing?
A system from the 1990s is well past the typical 15 to 20 year lifespan for residential AC equipment, so the repair-versus-replace conversation is worth having honestly. If the repair needed is minor, like a capacitor or a thermostat, it might buy you another season while you plan for replacement. But if the compressor is failing, the system uses older R-22 refrigerant, or it requires repeated service calls, replacement is usually the smarter long-term investment. We'll give you a straight answer on what makes financial sense for your specific situation rather than just recommending whatever generates more revenue.
Why does my Round Rock home feel humid even when the AC is running?
Excess humidity indoors while your AC is running usually points to one of a few issues. The system may be oversized for your home, which is actually a common problem in some Round Rock subdivisions where builders selected equipment based on cost rather than proper load calculations. An oversized system cools the air quickly but doesn't run long enough to pull adequate moisture out. Other causes include a dirty evaporator coil, a clogged condensate drain, or low refrigerant levels. A technician can diagnose which issue applies to your system and recommend the right fix.
What should I do if my AC stops working on a hot day in Round Rock?
First, check the obvious things: make sure your thermostat is set correctly and hasn't been bumped, check that the filter isn't completely clogged, and verify the circuit breaker for the AC hasn't tripped. If none of those are the issue, turn the system off to avoid stressing a potentially damaged component and give us a call. Running an AC unit that has a refrigerant leak or a failing compressor can cause additional damage that makes the eventual repair more expensive. We offer emergency service for situations like this, so you're not stuck waiting days for help during a heat wave.
How often should I have my AC serviced if I live in Round Rock?
For Round Rock homeowners, we recommend a professional AC tune-up once a year, ideally in the spring before the heavy cooling season kicks in. Because systems in this area run hard for six or more months out of the year, annual maintenance matters more here than it would in a milder climate. During a tune-up, a technician cleans coils, checks refrigerant levels, inspects electrical components, tests the thermostat, and clears the condensate drain. Catching small issues in April is almost always cheaper than an emergency repair call in July. Homes with older systems or a history of problems may benefit from more frequent check-ins.
