About Our AC Installation Services in Round Rock

Round Rock homeowners do their homework before hiring anyone, and we respect that. Cold is on the Right has been serving this community long enough to understand what local homes actually need — from the sprawling 1980s and 1990s ranch-styles in older neighborhoods like Brushy Creek and Round Rock West, to the newer two-story builds in communities like Teravista and Forest Creek that run their systems hard from spring through October. We install all major AC brands and help you select a system that fits your home's square footage, ductwork layout, and energy goals.

A new AC installation isn't just swapping out equipment. Proper load calculations, refrigerant line sizing, airflow balancing, and thermostat calibration all affect how well your system performs for the next decade or more. Our licensed HVAC technicians handle every step of the process and test the system thoroughly before we leave. You'll know exactly what was installed, why we recommended it, and what to expect going forward — no vague answers, no upsells you didn't ask for.

AC Installation Services We Provide in Round Rock

New AC System Installation

If your current system has reached the end of its useful life, we'll help you select and install a new central AC unit sized correctly for your home. Round Rock's mix of older ranch-styles and larger two-story builds requires careful load calculations to avoid oversized or undersized equipment that wastes energy and wears out early. We handle everything from equipment selection to final performance testing.

AC Replacement

When repair costs are stacking up or your system is more than 10 to 15 years old, replacement is often the smarter investment. We evaluate your existing system, ductwork, and insulation before recommending a replacement — because the right new unit depends on more than just the tonnage on your old one. Round Rock homeowners are often surprised how much a properly sized, high-efficiency replacement cuts their monthly energy bills.

AC Repair

Not every issue requires a full replacement. If your system is still within a reasonable age range and the repair makes financial sense, we'll fix it and give you an honest assessment of what remaining life you can expect. We diagnose and repair compressor issues, refrigerant leaks, capacitor failures, and more across all major AC brands common in Round Rock neighborhoods.

Mini Split Installation

Mini split systems are a popular choice in Round Rock for sunrooms, home offices, garages, and additions where extending existing ductwork isn't practical. They're also a strong option in older homes where duct systems are undersized or inefficient. We install and commission ductless mini split systems that deliver precise, energy-efficient cooling to the spaces that need it most.

Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps handle both cooling and heating, making them an increasingly practical choice for Round Rock homes looking to reduce dependence on gas or improve year-round efficiency. Modern heat pumps perform well in Central Texas climates and can significantly lower energy costs compared to traditional split systems. We'll walk you through whether a heat pump makes sense for your home's setup.

HVAC Maintenance Plans

A new AC installation is only as good as the maintenance behind it. We offer seasonal tune-up and maintenance plans that keep your new system running at peak efficiency, catch small issues before they become expensive repairs, and protect your manufacturer warranty. Round Rock homeowners who stay on a maintenance schedule consistently get more years out of their equipment.

Learn More

Ductwork Evaluation and Sealing

Installing a high-efficiency AC unit into a leaky or undersized duct system wastes much of what you paid for. Before or during installation, we inspect your ductwork for leaks, blockages, and sizing mismatches. Many Round Rock homes built in the 1980s and 1990s have original duct systems that were never designed for today's higher-efficiency equipment, and addressing that makes a real difference in comfort and energy bills.

Smart Thermostat Installation

Pairing your new AC system with a smart thermostat helps you get the most out of your investment. We install and configure programmable and Wi-Fi thermostats that let you manage your home's cooling schedule from anywhere — a feature Round Rock's tech-forward homeowners put to good use. Proper thermostat setup also prevents the short-cycling and uneven cooling that comes from incorrect configuration.

Indoor Air Quality Upgrades

A new AC installation is a natural opportunity to improve indoor air quality throughout your home. We can integrate whole-home air filtration, UV purification systems, and humidity control solutions at the time of installation. Round Rock's hot, pollen-heavy springs and dry summer air make indoor air quality a genuine concern for many families, especially those with allergies or respiratory sensitivities.

System Sizing and Load Calculations

Oversized systems short-cycle and leave homes feeling clammy. Undersized systems run constantly and still can't hit your target temperature on a 104-degree afternoon. We perform proper Manual J load calculations for every installation, accounting for your home's square footage, ceiling height, insulation, window placement, and sun exposure. Getting this right upfront is what separates a comfortable home from a frustrating one.

Emergency AC Installation

When an AC system fails in the middle of a Round Rock summer, waiting weeks for a new unit isn't an option. We offer expedited installation scheduling for emergency situations and maintain equipment inventory to minimize lead times. If your system has died and your home is getting dangerously hot, call us and we'll do everything we can to get you back to cool as quickly as possible.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock has some of the most varied housing stock in the Austin metro, ranging from modest 1980s brick ranches in established neighborhoods like Pecan Park and Kenney Fort to the large two-story homes in newer master-planned communities that have become the city's defining look over the past two decades. Older homes in Round Rock often have original duct systems that were sized for much less powerful equipment, which creates real problems when a homeowner installs a modern high-efficiency unit without addressing the ductwork first. We've seen this pattern enough times in this city to know it's one of the first things worth checking before any installation begins.

Round Rock's rapid growth has also produced a lot of homes in the 2000s and early 2010s that are now hitting the age range where their original HVAC systems are starting to fail in earnest. These homes are large, often two stories, and can be genuinely difficult to cool evenly with a single system that wasn't optimally placed to begin with. We factor in all of that when we recommend equipment and configuration — because what works in a 1,400-square-foot bungalow in Georgetown isn't the same solution a 2,800-square-foot two-story in Teravista needs. Local knowledge isn't a marketing phrase for us; it's what makes the installation actually work.

Ask us about current financing terms when you call for your estimate.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a new AC installation cost in Round Rock?
The cost of a new AC installation in Round Rock typically ranges from $4,000 to $10,000 or more depending on the size of your home, the efficiency rating of the equipment you choose, and whether any ductwork modifications are needed. A 2,000-square-foot home might land in the $5,000 to $7,500 range for a mid-tier system, while larger two-story homes common in Round Rock's newer developments can run higher due to increased tonnage requirements and more complex installations. The best way to get an accurate number is to have a technician assess your home in person, since factors like existing ductwork condition and electrical panel capacity can affect the total. We provide written estimates with upfront pricing before any work begins.
How long does AC installation take in Round Rock?
Most standard AC installations in Round Rock take between four and eight hours to complete in a single day. This includes removing your old equipment, installing the new indoor and outdoor units, connecting refrigerant lines, making electrical connections, and running a full performance test before we leave. Larger homes or jobs that require ductwork modifications may take longer, and we'll give you a realistic time estimate when we schedule your installation. We work efficiently and respect your time, but we don't rush steps that affect how well the system performs long term.
What size AC unit do I need for my Round Rock home?
Sizing an AC system correctly requires a proper load calculation that accounts for your home's square footage, ceiling height, insulation quality, window area and orientation, and how much direct sun your home receives. A rough rule of thumb is one ton of cooling capacity per 400 to 600 square feet, but that varies significantly in practice. Many Round Rock homes built in the 1990s and 2000s have original systems that were either oversized or undersized from the start, which contributes to comfort problems and early equipment failure. We perform Manual J calculations on every installation to make sure the equipment we recommend is actually the right fit for your specific home.
Should I repair my current AC or replace it with a new system?
A useful rule of thumb is to multiply the repair cost by the age of your system in years, and if that number exceeds the cost of a new system, replacement usually makes more sense. For example, a $600 repair on a 12-year-old system equals $7,200, which is in the range of what a new installation might cost — making replacement worth serious consideration. Round Rock homeowners with systems from the late 2000s and early 2010s are increasingly hitting this crossover point. Beyond cost, systems older than 12 to 15 years often use R-22 refrigerant, which is no longer manufactured and expensive to source, making even minor refrigerant repairs increasingly impractical. We'll give you an honest assessment of both options when we evaluate your system.
Do I need a permit for AC installation in Round Rock?
Yes, AC installations in Round Rock require a mechanical permit through the City of Round Rock's Building and Development Services department. This is true for new installations and full system replacements. Pulling permits and scheduling inspections is part of our process, and we handle that on your behalf so you don't have to navigate it yourself. Work done without a permit can create problems when you sell your home or make an insurance claim, so we never skip this step. Any contractor who suggests skipping the permit to save time or money is taking a shortcut that could cost you significantly down the road.
How often should I service my new AC system after installation?
We recommend having your AC system professionally serviced at least once a year, ideally in the spring before Round Rock's heavy cooling season begins in earnest. A seasonal tune-up includes checking refrigerant levels, cleaning coils, inspecting electrical connections, testing capacitors and contactors, and verifying that the system is running at its rated efficiency. Most manufacturer warranties also require documented regular maintenance, so skipping annual service can void your coverage if something goes wrong. Round Rock's long cooling seasons put real hours on HVAC equipment, so staying on top of maintenance is one of the best ways to protect your investment and extend the life of a new system.
