About Our Plumbing Services in Georgetown

Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air has been serving Georgetown homeowners across the full spectrum of what this city looks like — from the craftsman bungalows near the historic downtown district to the sprawling subdivisions of Wolf Ranch, Teravista, and Sun City. Our licensed plumbers understand that a home built in 1940 near the courthouse square has entirely different plumbing needs than a house that closed escrow last year in a new master-planned community. We bring that context to every job, so we're not guessing — we're diagnosing with the right baseline knowledge already in hand.

We believe plumbing service should be straightforward: honest diagnosis, clear pricing, and a fix that actually holds. Whether you're dealing with a slab leak in an older ranch home, a water softener installation to fight Georgetown's notoriously hard water, or a water heater that gave out in the middle of a cold snap, our team handles it without drama. We walk you through what we find, explain your options, and get the work done right so you're not calling someone back in six months for the same problem.

Drain Cleaning

Georgetown's hard water and older clay or cast iron drain lines in historic homes are a recipe for stubborn clogs and slow drainage. Our drain cleaning services use professional-grade equipment to clear blockages completely rather than just punching a temporary hole through buildup. Regular drain cleaning also helps extend the life of aging pipe systems that are costly to replace.

Water Heaters

Whether your water heater is on its last legs in an older Georgetown home or you're setting up a new build in a master-planned community, we handle installation, repair, and replacement for both traditional tank and tankless systems. Georgetown's hard water accelerates sediment buildup inside tank water heaters, shortening their lifespan if not maintained. We help you choose the right system for your household and install it properly the first time.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are an increasingly popular choice in Georgetown's newer developments, where homebuilders sometimes install undersized tank units to cut costs. Upgrading to a tankless system gives your household on-demand hot water without the energy waste of keeping a full tank heated around the clock. Our technicians size and install these systems correctly, which matters more than most people realize for long-term performance.

Slab Leak Detection

Slab leaks are a serious concern in Georgetown, particularly in homes built in the 1970s through 1990s that have copper supply lines running under the foundation. Georgetown's expansive clay soils shift with the seasons, putting stress on those lines over time. We use non-invasive detection equipment to locate the leak precisely before any work begins, saving you from unnecessary concrete cuts and guesswork.

Leak Detection

Hidden leaks — inside walls, under slabs, or behind fixtures — can go unnoticed for months while quietly driving up your water bill and causing structural damage. Our leak detection service uses electronic and acoustic equipment to find the source without tearing apart your home. Early detection is especially important in Georgetown's older housing stock, where aging pipe materials are more prone to pinhole leaks and joint failures.

Learn More

Whole House Repiping

Homes in Georgetown's established neighborhoods — particularly those built before the 1990s — often still have galvanized steel or polybutylene pipes that have reached the end of their usable life. Whole house repiping replaces the entire supply system with modern PEX or copper lines that deliver clean water at consistent pressure. It's a significant investment, but it eliminates recurring repairs and protects the home from water damage caused by failing pipes.

Learn More

Sewer Line Replacement

Older Georgetown properties near the historic core often have clay or Orangeburg sewer lines that have been in the ground for decades — and they don't last forever. Root intrusion, ground movement, and simple age can cause collapses or severe blockages that drain cleaning alone won't fix. We assess the condition of your sewer line and replace it when necessary using methods that minimize disruption to your yard and landscaping.

Learn More

Water Softeners

Georgetown sits in one of the hardest water zones in Central Texas, with high calcium and magnesium levels that scale up pipes, damage water heaters, and wear out appliances faster than they should. A properly sized water softener protects your entire plumbing system and makes a noticeable difference in water quality throughout the home. We install, service, and repair softener systems for both new construction and existing Georgetown homes.

Emergency Plumbing

A burst pipe, sewage backup, or water heater failure doesn't wait for business hours, and neither do we. Our emergency plumbing service is available when Georgetown homeowners need fast, reliable help to prevent a manageable problem from turning into a major disaster. We arrive prepared to diagnose and repair on the spot, with upfront pricing even in emergency situations.

Gas Line Installation

Many Georgetown homeowners are adding outdoor kitchens, gas grills, generators, or switching from electric to gas appliances — all of which require properly permitted gas line work. Our licensed plumbers handle gas line installation and extensions safely and to code, whether you're in a new master-planned community or an older home that needs an upgraded supply line. We pull the necessary permits so the work is done right and your home's insurance coverage stays intact.

We Know Georgetown Homes

Georgetown's housing stock is as varied as any city in Central Texas. The historic neighborhoods near the downtown square are full of homes that have been added to and modified over decades, often with a mix of pipe materials — galvanized, copper, and sometimes polybutylene — that tells the whole story of the home's plumbing history. These older properties need a plumber who knows what to look for and doesn't just treat every job like a cookie-cutter fix. We've worked in enough of these homes to recognize failure patterns before they become emergencies.

At the same time, Georgetown's newer master-planned communities — Sun City, Wolf Ranch, Teravista, and the developments that keep pushing north along I-35 — come with their own set of issues. New construction plumbing looks clean on the surface, but builder-grade fixtures, improperly sized water heaters, and Georgetown's relentless hard water start causing problems sooner than most homeowners expect. We work across all of Georgetown's neighborhoods, and that range of experience means we show up to every job already knowing what we're likely dealing with.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Georgetown's hard water affect my plumbing?
Georgetown has some of the hardest water in Central Texas, with high levels of calcium and magnesium that leave mineral deposits inside pipes, water heaters, and appliances. Over time, this scaling reduces water flow, lowers water heater efficiency, and shortens the lifespan of fixtures and appliances significantly. A water softener is the most effective long-term solution, and having your water heater flushed annually helps remove sediment before it causes real damage. If your water heater is making a rumbling or popping noise, that's usually sediment buildup and a sign it needs attention. Homes without softeners in Georgetown tend to see plumbing problems earlier than the same age home in a softer water area.
My Georgetown home was built in the 1970s. What plumbing problems should I watch for?
Homes built in Georgetown during the 1970s often have galvanized steel water supply lines, which corrode from the inside out over time and can cause rust-tinged water, low pressure, and eventual leaks. Some homes from that era also have polybutylene pipes installed in later decades, which are known to fail without much warning. Sewer lines in older Georgetown properties are frequently clay tile or Orangeburg, both of which crack and collapse as they age. A plumbing inspection is a smart investment if you haven't had one done in the last few years, because catching these issues early is far less expensive than dealing with the damage they cause when they fail completely.
What's the typical cost to replace a water heater in Georgetown?
A standard 40 to 50 gallon tank water heater replacement in Georgetown generally runs between $900 and $1,500 installed, depending on the unit and any code upgrades required at the time of installation. Tankless water heater installations are higher, typically in the $2,000 to $3,500 range, but the long-term energy savings and extended lifespan often justify the upfront cost. Georgetown's hard water shortens water heater lifespans, so pairing a new installation with a water softener or at minimum an anode rod replacement is worth discussing. We give you an itemized estimate before any work starts so you know exactly what you're paying for.
How do I know if I have a slab leak in my Georgetown home?
Common signs of a slab leak include hot spots on your floor, the sound of running water when all fixtures are off, unexplained increases in your water bill, or cracks appearing in your flooring or baseboards. In Georgetown, older homes with copper supply lines under the slab are particularly susceptible because the clay soil expands and contracts seasonally, stressing those lines over time. If you notice any of these signs, it's important to call for leak detection quickly because slab leaks worsen over time and can undermine your foundation. We use non-invasive electronic detection to locate the leak precisely before any concrete is disturbed.
Do new construction homes in Georgetown's master-planned communities have plumbing issues?
Yes, and it's more common than people expect. Builder-grade fixtures and water heaters are often undersized or minimally installed to keep construction costs down, and they tend to show wear within the first few years of use. Georgetown's hard water hits new plumbing hard from day one, so water heaters and fixtures in new builds degrade faster without a softener in place. Permit and inspection issues occasionally result in installations that meet minimum code but aren't ideal for the long term. If your new Georgetown home is a few years old and you're starting to notice issues, it's worth having a plumber take a look rather than assuming everything is fine because the house is new.
How quickly can you respond to a plumbing emergency in Georgetown?
We offer emergency plumbing service for Georgetown homeowners and aim to respond as quickly as possible when something urgent comes up. For active leaks, sewage backups, or loss of water, the priority is stopping damage first, so give us a call as soon as the problem develops rather than waiting to see if it resolves on its own. When you call, describe what you're seeing so we can make sure the technician arrives with the right equipment. We provide upfront pricing even on emergency calls, so there are no surprises when the work is done.
