About Our Water Softeners in Georgetown

Georgetown has grown faster than almost any city in Texas over the past decade, and that growth means an unusually wide range of housing stock all dealing with the same underlying water quality challenge. The Edwards Aquifer and local municipal supply deliver water that's consistently high in calcium and magnesium — the minerals that leave white scale on your fixtures, shorten the life of your water heater, and make your skin feel dry after every shower. Whether you're in a renovated Victorian near the historic downtown square or a brand-new build in Teravista, the hard water problem is the same. What's different is how we approach the solution for each home.

Cold is on the Right works with Georgetown homeowners to find water softener systems that fit their plumbing layout, household size, and water usage habits. Older homes near the downtown corridor often have plumbing that's already showing the effects of decades of mineral buildup, and a softener can help protect whatever's left of that infrastructure. Newer master-planned developments come with modern fixtures that benefit immediately from softened water — and installing a system early protects that investment from day one. We carry salt-based ion exchange systems and salt-free alternatives, and we'll help you understand the difference before you commit to anything.

Water Softener Services We Provide in Georgetown

Water Quality Testing

Before we recommend a single product, we test your water. Georgetown's municipal supply and well sources both carry high mineral loads, and the exact hardness level, pH, and any additional contaminants will shape which system is right for your home. This step takes the guesswork out of the entire process and ensures you're not paying for more system than you need.

Salt-Based Ion Exchange Softener Installation

The most effective way to eliminate hard water, ion exchange systems swap calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions, delivering consistently soft water to every fixture and appliance in your home. We size the system to your household's daily water demand and configure it for Georgetown's specific hardness levels. Installation is clean, efficient, and tested before we leave.

Salt-Free Water Conditioner Installation

If you'd prefer to avoid sodium in your softened water, a salt-free conditioner is a strong alternative. These systems don't remove hardness minerals but change their structure so they can't bond to surfaces and form scale. For newer Georgetown homes with modern plumbing and homeowners who prefer lower-maintenance systems, this can be a practical fit.

Whole-House Water Filtration

A water softener addresses hardness, but whole-house filtration goes further — removing chlorine, sediment, and other contaminants from your entire water supply before they reach your taps, showerheads, and appliances. Many Georgetown homeowners pair a softener with a filtration system for comprehensive water quality. We can design and install a combined system that handles both.

Water Softener Replacement

If your existing softener is more than ten to fifteen years old, it may be losing efficiency or failing to keep up with your household's water demand — especially if your family has grown or you've added water-using appliances. We assess your current system honestly and let you know whether a repair makes sense or whether a replacement will serve you better in the long run.

Brine Tank Service and Salt Replenishment

A salt-based softener only works as well as its brine tank is maintained. We service brine tanks, clear salt bridges, remove mushing buildup, and ensure the regeneration cycle is calibrated correctly. If your softener has been running but your water still feels hard, a brine tank service call often solves the problem without a full replacement.

Water Softener Repair

From control valve failures and resin bed degradation to bypass valve issues and timer malfunctions, water softeners can develop problems that reduce their effectiveness or stop them from working altogether. Our technicians diagnose the specific fault and give you honest options — repair or replace — so you can make the right call for your home and your budget.

Well Water Softening Systems

Homes in the rural edges of Georgetown and in areas like Andice or Walburg often rely on well water, which can carry even higher mineral concentrations than city supply — along with iron, sulfur, and other contaminants that standard softeners aren't designed to handle alone. We install well-specific softening and treatment systems that address the full picture of what's in your water.

Under-Sink and Point-of-Use Softening

Not every Georgetown homeowner needs a whole-house system. If your primary concern is drinking water quality or a specific fixture, a point-of-use softener or filter can be a cost-effective first step. We install and service under-sink units that deliver noticeably better water quality at the tap where it matters most to you.

Water Heater Protection Services

Hard water and water heaters don't get along. Mineral scale accumulates inside the tank and on heating elements, reducing efficiency and shortening the unit's lifespan significantly. If your Georgetown water heater is running harder than it should or failing prematurely, addressing water hardness at the source is a key part of protecting your investment going forward.

Plumbing System Assessment

Long-term hard water exposure leaves its mark on pipes, fittings, and fixtures throughout your home. If you've been living without a softener for years, it's worth having a plumber take a look at what the mineral buildup may have done to your system. We provide honest assessments and clear recommendations without pushing unnecessary repairs.

Benefits of Installing a Water Softener in Georgetown

A whole-house water softener is a real investment, and we understand that the upfront cost isn't always easy to absorb in one payment. Cold is on the Right offers financing options to help Georgetown homeowners get the water quality they need without waiting. Ask us about available plans when you call — no pressure, just options.

We Know Georgetown Homes

Georgetown's housing stock runs the full spectrum. The historic neighborhoods near the downtown square have homes that have been carrying hard water through their pipes for sixty, seventy, even a hundred years — and the damage that kind of mineral load does over time shows up in corroded fittings, sluggish water pressure, and water heaters that work twice as hard as they should. When we work in these older homes, we pay attention not just to the softener installation but to the condition of the plumbing around it, because the two are connected.

On the other side of town, the master-planned communities — Sun City, Wolf Ranch, Teravista, Parkside at Mayfield Ranch — are full of homes that are only a few years old but already dealing with the same Georgetown water. Builders install standard fixtures and appliances, but they don't install softeners by default, which means scale starts building from move-in day. We work in these neighborhoods regularly and understand the layouts, the mechanical room configurations, and the plumbing setups common to new construction in this part of Williamson County. That familiarity means faster installs and fewer surprises for you.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the water in Georgetown, TX?
Georgetown water is consistently rated as very hard, typically measuring between 15 and 20 grains per gallon depending on the season and your specific location in the city. Water pulled from the Edwards Aquifer and treated through the city's system retains high levels of calcium and magnesium. Homes on private wells in the Georgetown area can see even higher hardness levels. A water test will give you your home's exact number, which helps determine what size and type of system makes sense for your situation.
What's the difference between a water softener and a water filter?
A water softener specifically targets hardness minerals — calcium and magnesium — using an ion exchange process that replaces them with sodium ions. A water filter is designed to remove a different set of issues: sediment, chlorine, bacteria, heavy metals, and other contaminants. They solve different problems, and many Georgetown homeowners choose to install both for comprehensive water quality. If your main complaint is scale buildup, spots on dishes, or dry skin, a softener addresses that directly. If taste and purity are your concern, a filtration system or combination setup may be the better fit.
How much does a water softener installation cost in Georgetown?
The cost of a water softener installation in Georgetown typically ranges from $800 to $2,500 or more depending on the size of the system, the type of softener, and your home's plumbing configuration. Larger households need higher-capacity units, which cost more upfront but are the right call for your water demand. Older homes may require additional plumbing work to properly integrate a new system. We provide a clear, itemized estimate before any work begins so you know exactly what you're paying for. Financing options are available if you'd prefer to spread the cost out.
Does a water softener need regular maintenance?
Yes, a salt-based water softener requires ongoing maintenance to keep running effectively. The most important task is keeping the brine tank stocked with the appropriate type of salt, which is typically needed every four to eight weeks depending on your household size and water usage. You should also check periodically for salt bridges or mushing in the brine tank, which can prevent the system from regenerating properly. The resin bed inside the unit can degrade over time and may need to be cleaned or replaced after several years. Having a technician service the system annually helps catch issues before they affect your water quality.
Can a water softener help protect my new construction home in Georgetown?
Absolutely, and in some ways it matters more for newer homes than older ones. New construction in Georgetown comes with brand-new water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and fixtures that have a full expected lifespan ahead of them. Hard water begins degrading all of those components from the first day of use, gradually reducing efficiency and shortening the life of equipment that cost you significant money. Installing a softener early protects your investment and keeps appliances running at peak efficiency for longer. It also means your fixtures stay looking clean instead of building up scale over the first few years of living in your home.
Do I need a special water softener if my Georgetown home is on a well?
Well water in the Georgetown area often contains higher hardness levels than city supply, and it may also carry iron, sulfur, or other contaminants that standard softeners are not designed to handle effectively. Iron in particular can foul a standard resin bed and significantly shorten the life of a conventional softener. Homes on well water typically need a system that's specifically configured for those conditions, which may include a pre-filter, an iron removal stage, or a specialty resin. A water test is especially important for well water homes because the exact composition of your water determines exactly what treatment approach is needed.
