About Our Water Filters & Filtration in Georgetown

Georgetown has grown faster than almost any city in the country over the past decade, which means we work on homes that span a century of construction. The older homes near the historic downtown square often have aging supply lines that can leach sediment and even trace metals into the water, making filtration not just a comfort upgrade but a practical necessity. In those homes, unfiltered water accelerates corrosion and shortens the life of already-aging plumbing. A good filtration system is one of the smartest investments an older Georgetown home can make.

In the newer master-planned communities, the pipes are fresh but the water itself still carries the high mineral content that defines Central Texas water. Hard water leaves scale deposits in water heaters, clogs showerheads, and leaves spots on every surface it touches. Residents in developments like Sun City, Williamson County's fastest-growing 55-plus community, often notice these effects quickly and come to us for whole-home solutions. Cold is on the Right knows Georgetown's water supply, its neighborhoods, and which filtration approach makes sense for your specific home and situation.

Water Filtration Services We Provide in Georgetown

Whole-Home Water Filtration Systems

A whole-home system filters every drop of water that enters your house, protecting your pipes, appliances, and every fixture from sediment and contaminants. In Georgetown, where hard minerals and sediment are a consistent issue across both older and newer homes, this is the most comprehensive solution. We assess your water quality and recommend the right system for your household size and water usage.

Under-Sink Water Filters

Under-sink filters provide clean, great-tasting drinking water right at the tap without filtering water used for landscaping or outdoor hoses. This is a popular option in Georgetown neighborhoods where homeowners want a targeted solution for their kitchen without the cost of a whole-home system. We install multi-stage under-sink units that remove chlorine, sediment, heavy metals, and other common concerns.

Reverse Osmosis Systems

Reverse osmosis systems push water through a semi-permeable membrane that removes up to 99% of dissolved contaminants, including nitrates, fluoride, chlorine byproducts, and heavy metals. Georgetown's water supply can carry elevated levels of some of these compounds depending on the season and source, making RO a strong choice for families who want the cleanest possible drinking water. We install both countertop and under-sink RO units with professional-grade fittings.

Sediment Filters

Sediment filters are often the first line of defense in a filtration system, trapping sand, silt, rust, and debris before they reach your appliances or faucets. In Georgetown homes with older supply lines or homes connected to well systems in the surrounding Williamson County area, sediment can be a recurring issue. We install and replace sediment filter housings and cartridges for both municipal and private well connections.

Carbon Block & Activated Carbon Filters

Activated carbon filters are highly effective at removing chlorine, chloramines, and volatile organic compounds that affect the taste and smell of your water. Georgetown's municipal water is treated with chlorine, and many residents notice a chemical taste, especially in newer homes where the supply lines haven't fully flushed through. Carbon filtration is an affordable, low-maintenance way to dramatically improve your water's flavor and odor.

Water Softeners

Georgetown's water is notoriously hard, with high levels of calcium and magnesium that leave scale on fixtures, in water heaters, and throughout your plumbing system. A water softener works by exchanging those minerals for sodium ions, protecting your pipes and appliances from buildup over time. Pairing a softener with a filtration system gives you both soft and clean water throughout your home.

Filter System Maintenance & Cartridge Replacement

Filtration systems only perform well when filters are changed on schedule. Clogged or expired cartridges can actually reduce flow pressure and in some cases allow contaminants to pass through. We offer maintenance visits for Georgetown homeowners to inspect, flush, and replace filter cartridges so your system keeps doing its job year after year.

Well Water Filtration

Some Georgetown-area properties, particularly on the western and northern edges of Williamson County, rely on private wells rather than city water. Well water comes with its own set of concerns including bacteria, iron, sulfur, and sediment that require specific treatment approaches. We test and evaluate well water and install filtration systems designed for the contaminants common in this region.

Water Quality Testing

Before recommending any filtration system, we want to know exactly what's in your water. We use water quality testing to identify pH levels, hardness, sediment, chlorine content, and other contaminants specific to your home's water source. Georgetown homeowners are often surprised by what testing reveals, especially in older homes where plumbing materials can affect water chemistry downstream.

Inline & Refrigerator Filters

Refrigerator water and ice dispensers have built-in filters that need regular replacement, and inline filters for specific appliances can extend their lifespan and improve output quality. We install and replace these smaller-scale filters for Georgetown homeowners who want clean water from every source in the kitchen. It's a quick service that makes a noticeable difference in the taste of your ice and drinking water.

Filtration System Upgrades & Replacements

Older filtration systems lose effectiveness over time, and technology has improved significantly in recent years. If your current system is more than 8 to 10 years old or if you've noticed declining water quality, it may be time for an upgrade. We assess your existing setup, explain your options clearly, and install the right replacement system with minimal disruption to your daily routine.

Benefits of Water Filtration in Georgetown

A whole-home filtration system is one of the best long-term investments you can make for your home, and we don't think cost should be the reason you put it off. Cold is on the Right offers financing options to help Georgetown homeowners get the system they need now and pay for it over time. Ask us about current financing plans when you call — we'll find an approach that fits your budget.

We Know Georgetown Homes

Georgetown is one of the most architecturally varied cities we work in. On any given week we might be under a 1920s Craftsman bungalow a few blocks from the historic square, where galvanized steel supply lines are still in use and sediment filters are practically a requirement, and then out to a 2022 construction in Morningstar or Wolf Ranch where the pipes are new but the water chemistry is identical to the rest of Central Texas. That range of home ages means we don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. The condition of your existing plumbing, your water source, and even your neighborhood's infrastructure all factor into what we recommend.

Georgetown's rapid growth has also brought a huge number of buyers who moved here from other parts of the country and weren't prepared for how hard Central Texas water really is. Sun City residents in particular often contact us after noticing scale in their new homes within the first year. We've worked in enough Georgetown neighborhoods to know what the local water supply looks like in different parts of the city, what issues tend to show up in homes of different ages, and what filtration systems hold up best in this climate. That local knowledge makes a real difference in the quality of the recommendation you get from us.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the water in Georgetown, TX?
Georgetown's water is considered very hard, typically ranging from 200 to over 300 parts per million of dissolved calcium and magnesium depending on the time of year and which part of the city you're in. For comparison, water above 120 ppm is generally classified as hard, so Georgetown's levels are well above that threshold. That hardness is the primary reason Georgetown homeowners notice scale on fixtures, shortened appliance lifespans, and skin irritation. A water softener handles the hardness minerals, while a filtration system addresses other contaminants like sediment, chlorine, and organics. Testing your water is the best way to know exactly what you're dealing with before deciding on a solution.
What's the difference between a water softener and a water filter?
A water softener specifically targets hardness minerals, calcium and magnesium, and exchanges them for sodium ions through a process called ion exchange. A water filter, on the other hand, removes a broader range of contaminants including sediment, chlorine, chloramines, heavy metals, and organic compounds depending on the filter type. In Georgetown, many homeowners benefit from having both because the water is hard and also contains chlorine and other treatment byproducts from municipal treatment. A softener handles what a filter can't, and vice versa. We often recommend pairing a whole-home carbon or sediment filter with a softener for comprehensive water treatment.
How much does a whole-home water filtration system cost in Georgetown?
The cost of a whole-home filtration system in Georgetown typically ranges from around $500 to $2,500 or more depending on the system type, the number of filtration stages, and the complexity of the installation. A basic sediment and carbon filter setup at the point of entry tends to be on the lower end, while multi-stage systems or those combined with water softeners are at the higher end. Reverse osmosis systems installed under the sink generally run between $300 and $800 installed. These are general ranges, and the specific cost for your home depends on your plumbing configuration and what the water testing shows. We provide exact pricing before any work begins.
Do I need a water filter if I'm in a newer home in one of Georgetown's master-planned communities?
Yes, new construction doesn't mean clean water. Georgetown's municipal water supply is the same regardless of when your home was built, and the high mineral content and chlorine treatment affect everyone connected to the city system. In fact, new homeowners in communities like Wolf Ranch, Teravista, or Morningstar often notice scale and water quality issues within the first year because they're experiencing Central Texas water for the first time. New pipes are an advantage in some ways, but they don't filter your water. A filtration system protects your new appliances and plumbing from mineral buildup right from the start, which is actually easier than trying to address buildup after it's already accumulated.
How often do water filter cartridges need to be replaced?
Replacement frequency depends on the filter type, your water quality, and how much water your household uses. Sediment pre-filters often need replacement every 3 to 6 months in areas with higher turbidity like Georgetown. Carbon block filters typically last 6 to 12 months. Reverse osmosis membranes can last 2 to 3 years under normal conditions. Manufacturers provide guidelines, but in Central Texas the high mineral content and sediment load can shorten those intervals compared to what the packaging suggests. We recommend scheduling annual maintenance visits to inspect your full system, check water quality, and replace any cartridges that are due so the system continues performing as it should.
Can I install a water filtration system myself, or do I need a licensed plumber?
Simple under-sink pitcher-style or faucet-mount filters are DIY-friendly, but anything involving a connection to your home's supply lines should be installed by a licensed plumber. This includes whole-home point-of-entry systems, under-sink reverse osmosis units with dedicated faucets, and anything that requires cutting into your plumbing. Improper installation can lead to leaks, contamination of your water supply, and voided equipment warranties. In Texas, certain plumbing work also requires a licensed plumber by code. Having a professional install the system also means it's done correctly the first time and that someone is accountable if anything goes wrong after installation.
