About Our Tankless Water Heater Installation in Georgetown

Georgetown's explosive growth has brought thousands of new residents into large master-planned communities like Wolf Ranch, Teravista, and Berry Creek, where high-demand households need water heating systems that can actually keep up. At the same time, the historic neighborhoods near the downtown square feature older homes with aging plumbing that wasn't designed with modern hot water demand in mind. Cold is on the Right has hands-on experience working across all of Georgetown's housing stock, and we tailor every tankless installation to the specific needs of the home in front of us, not a one-size-fits-all approach.

Georgetown's water is notoriously hard, drawn from the limestone-heavy aquifers of the Edwards Plateau. Hard water accelerates mineral buildup inside water heaters and can significantly shorten the lifespan of traditional tank units. Tankless water heaters, when properly installed and maintained with Georgetown's water quality in mind, are a smart long-term investment. Our team sizes units correctly for your household, handles all venting requirements, and can pair your new system with a descaling or filtration solution to keep your tankless unit running efficiently for years to come.

Conversion from Tank to Tankless

Many Georgetown homeowners in older homes still have traditional tank water heaters that are well past their prime. We handle the full conversion process, including removing the old tank, evaluating your gas line or electrical capacity, installing proper venting, and commissioning your new tankless unit. It's a meaningful upgrade in both comfort and long-term efficiency.

Learn More

Whole-Home Tankless System Sizing

Sizing a tankless water heater incorrectly is one of the most common mistakes in new installations, and it results in lukewarm water when multiple fixtures run at once. We calculate your home's peak demand based on the number of bathrooms, appliances, and household size before recommending a unit. Georgetown's larger master-planned homes often need higher-capacity systems than a standard box-store unit can provide.

Point-of-Use Tankless Installation

For a garage workshop, a guest suite above the garage, or a standalone outdoor kitchen, a point-of-use tankless unit delivers hot water exactly where you need it without running a long supply line from your main system. These compact units are a popular upgrade in Georgetown's newer homes with detached structures or large lot layouts. We install and connect them cleanly and to code.

Gas Line Assessment and Upgrade

Tankless water heaters often require a larger gas supply line than the one feeding your old tank heater. Before installation, we assess your existing gas line capacity and upgrade it if needed so your new unit fires at full capacity without pressure drops. This step is especially important in older Georgetown homes where the original gas infrastructure wasn't sized for modern high-BTU appliances.

Venting Installation and Reconfiguration

Gas tankless water heaters require dedicated venting that meets current code, and the requirements differ significantly from what a traditional tank heater needed. We handle all venting work, including direct-vent and power-vent configurations, and ensure your installation passes inspection. Proper venting protects your household from combustion gases and keeps your unit operating efficiently.

Hot Water Recirculation Systems

In Georgetown's larger homes, it can take a frustrating amount of time for hot water to reach fixtures at the far end of the house. A recirculation system solves that problem by keeping hot water circulating through your supply lines so it's ready the moment you turn the tap. We integrate these systems with tankless units for maximum comfort and minimal water waste.

Scale and Mineral Buildup Descaling

Georgetown's hard water is tough on water heaters, and tankless units are no exception. Mineral scale accumulates in the heat exchanger over time, reducing efficiency and eventually causing the unit to fail. We offer professional descaling service using a vinegar flush process that clears buildup and restores your unit's performance, extending its lifespan significantly.

Annual Tankless Maintenance

Regular maintenance is what separates a tankless water heater that lasts 20 years from one that fails at 10. Our annual service includes a full inspection, filter cleaning, descaling, and a performance check to catch small issues before they become costly repairs. Given Georgetown's hard water conditions, we strongly recommend annual maintenance for every tankless system in the area.

We Know Georgetown Homes

Georgetown is genuinely unlike most cities in central Texas because the housing stock spans well over a hundred years. The homes near the downtown Victorian District were built with entirely different plumbing infrastructure than anything going up today in Wolf Ranch or Parkside at Mayfield Ranch, and those differences matter when we're scoping an installation. Older Georgetown homes often have galvanized steel supply lines that have been narrowing for decades, and retrofitting a tankless unit into that kind of system without addressing the underlying pipe condition can cause real problems down the road. We take the time to understand what we're working with before we ever pull a unit off a truck.

The newer master-planned developments present their own set of considerations. Homes in these communities tend to be large, with multiple full bathrooms, open-concept kitchens, and sometimes separate guest quarters, all of which create serious peak demand on a water heating system. Georgetown's water also comes with a heavy mineral load thanks to the local limestone geology, which means hard water scaling is a real concern for any water heater in this area. We factor all of that into our recommendations, and we're honest with homeowners about what it takes to keep a tankless system performing well here long-term.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does tankless water heater installation cost in Georgetown, TX?
The total cost for a tankless water heater installation in Georgetown typically falls between $1,500 and $3,500 depending on the unit you choose, whether your gas line needs to be upgraded, and what venting work is required. High-capacity units for larger homes in communities like Wolf Ranch or Teravista can push toward the higher end of that range. Homes that are converting from a tank heater may also need additional work to bring the gas supply line up to the flow rate a tankless unit requires. We provide upfront pricing before any work begins so there are no surprises on the final invoice.
Is Georgetown's hard water a problem for tankless water heaters?
Yes, Georgetown's water is hard, drawn from limestone aquifers, and mineral scale buildup inside the heat exchanger is one of the most common causes of reduced efficiency and early failure in tankless units here. The good news is that this is very manageable with annual descaling service, which involves flushing the heat exchanger with a vinegar solution to dissolve accumulated minerals. Some homeowners also add a whole-home water softener or a dedicated pre-filter for the water heater, which significantly extends the unit's lifespan. Without any maintenance, hard water can cut a tankless unit's effective life by several years. We always discuss water quality with Georgetown homeowners during the installation process so you know what to plan for.
How long does a tankless water heater installation take?
Most tankless water heater installations take between three and six hours for a straightforward replacement or new installation. If the job involves upgrading a gas line, reconfiguring venting, or removing a large traditional tank first, it can extend closer to a full day. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we assess your home so you can plan accordingly. In most cases, Georgetown homeowners have a fully operational new system by the end of the same day we start the job.
What size tankless water heater do I need for my Georgetown home?
Sizing depends on how many hot water fixtures your household runs simultaneously at peak demand and the incoming groundwater temperature in your area. Georgetown's groundwater temperature averages around 68 degrees Fahrenheit, which means the heater has less work to do than in colder climates, but larger homes with three or more bathrooms and high-demand appliances like dishwashers still need appropriately sized units. A single-bathroom home or a guest suite addition might be fine with a smaller point-of-use unit, while a four-bathroom home with a large family needs a whole-home system rated for the flow rate. We calculate this based on your specific household before recommending anything, because an undersized unit is one of the most common and most frustrating installation mistakes.
Can I install a tankless water heater in an older Georgetown home near the historic district?
Yes, and we do it regularly. Older homes near Georgetown's downtown Victorian District can absolutely be upgraded to tankless water heaters, but the process often involves additional assessment of the existing plumbing, gas line capacity, and venting options that newer construction doesn't require. Some older homes have galvanized steel supply lines that have narrowed significantly over the decades, and we'll flag that if it's a concern before we proceed. The good news is that tankless units take up far less space than the old tank heaters common in these homes, which often frees up useful space in a utility room or closet. We approach every older home installation with care and transparency about what the work actually involves.
Do tankless water heaters work during a power outage in Georgetown?
Most gas tankless water heaters require electricity to operate the control board, ignition system, and fan, so they will not function during a power outage even though the fuel source is gas. This is different from a traditional gas tank heater with a standing pilot, which can sometimes continue operating without power. If backup hot water during outages is a priority for you, a whole-home generator that covers your water heater circuit is the most reliable solution. Georgetown does experience occasional outages during severe weather, so it's worth factoring this into your planning if uninterrupted hot water is important for your household.
