About Our Water Heater Services in Westlake

Westlake is one of the most established and well-maintained communities in the greater Austin area, but even the finest homes need updated plumbing systems eventually. Many of the water heaters installed in Westlake homes during the original construction have long exceeded their useful life, and aging tank systems in large homes often struggle to keep up with modern demand. At Cold is on the Right, our licensed plumbers are experienced with the premium plumbing systems, large-capacity tanks, and recirculation setups common in Westlake's upscale homes — we don't bring a one-size-fits-all approach to a neighborhood that deserves better than that.

Whether you're dealing with a failing tank heater in a 4,000-square-foot home on a wooded lot, considering a tankless upgrade to reduce energy costs, or troubleshooting inconsistent hot water across multiple bathrooms, our team provides honest assessments and transparent quotes before any work begins. We serve Westlake homeowners who have high standards for the professionals they let into their homes, and we hold ourselves to those same standards on every job.

Water Heater Replacement

Many Westlake homeowners are still running original water heaters from when their home was built decades ago. When it's time to replace an aging unit, we assess your home's current needs and recommend the most efficient system for your square footage and lifestyle. We handle removal of the old unit and full installation of the new one.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless systems are a popular upgrade in Westlake because they eliminate the bulky tank, provide hot water on demand, and reduce monthly energy costs significantly over time. Our plumbers size and install tankless units that can serve even the larger homes in this area with multiple bathrooms running simultaneously. It's a smart long-term investment for a home you plan to stay in.

Hybrid and Heat Pump Water Heaters

For Westlake homeowners focused on energy efficiency, hybrid heat pump water heaters deliver excellent performance while using significantly less electricity than traditional tank systems. These units work best in homes with adequate space for air circulation, which many larger Westlake properties can accommodate. We'll walk you through whether a hybrid system makes sense for your specific setup.

Water Heater Flushing and Maintenance

Mineral buildup from the Austin area's notoriously hard water accelerates wear on water heater tanks and reduces efficiency over time. Regular flushing removes sediment from the tank floor, extends the life of the unit, and helps maintain consistent hot water output. This service is especially valuable for older Westlake homes where the water heater hasn't been serviced in years.

Recirculation System Service

Many Westlake homes were built with hot water recirculation systems designed to deliver instant hot water to distant bathrooms in large floor plans. These systems require periodic maintenance and can develop pump failures, valve issues, or thermostat problems over time. Our plumbers service and repair recirculation setups so you're not waiting for hot water to travel the length of a large home.

Pressure Relief Valve Replacement

The temperature and pressure relief valve on your water heater is a critical safety component, and it's one of the first things we check on older units. A faulty or stuck valve can create dangerous pressure buildup in the tank. We inspect, test, and replace T&P valves as part of our service to keep your water heater operating safely.

Gas Line Inspection for Water Heaters

Many Westlake homes rely on natural gas water heaters, and the gas lines serving those units deserve the same attention as the heater itself. Our licensed plumbers inspect gas connections, check for leaks, and verify that supply lines are properly sized and in good condition. Older homes can have aging flex connectors or fittings that are overdue for inspection.

Emergency Water Heater Service

A water heater failure doesn't wait for business hours, and neither do we. Whether you're waking up to no hot water or discovering a leaking tank on a weekend, our team is available for emergency service in Westlake. We arrive ready to diagnose and resolve the issue as quickly as possible so your household gets back to normal.

Plumbing Repairs Related to Water Heaters

Water heater problems sometimes point to broader plumbing issues — corroded supply lines, shutoff valves that have seized, or drain lines that haven't been touched in decades. Our team can address those connected repairs at the same time so you're not calling multiple contractors. Comprehensive service is especially useful in older Westlake homes where plumbing hasn't been updated since original construction.

We Know Westlake Homes

Westlake's housing stock is dominated by large, custom-built homes constructed between the mid-1970s and late 1990s, many of them sitting on wooded hillside lots with mature oaks and cedars shading the property. These homes were built with high-quality materials and premium plumbing fixtures for their time, but plumbing doesn't age the same way stone or hardwood does. Galvanized steel supply lines, original tank water heaters, and recirculation systems installed 30-plus years ago are now well past their expected service life, and we see the effects of that regularly when we service homes in this area.

The Hill Country terrain and the Austin area's hard water are two factors that directly affect how water heaters perform and wear out in Westlake. Mineral-rich water accelerates sediment buildup inside tanks, shortening their useful life and reducing efficiency well before the nameplate age suggests they should fail. Our technicians bring that context to every service call — we're not just replacing parts, we're diagnosing the full picture of how your home's plumbing has aged and what it actually needs to perform reliably for another decade or more.

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a water heater last in a Westlake home?
Most traditional tank water heaters are rated for 8 to 12 years, but in the Austin area — including Westlake — hard water with high mineral content tends to shorten that lifespan by accelerating sediment buildup inside the tank. A water heater that has never been flushed or serviced may degrade faster than one that has received periodic maintenance. If your water heater is approaching 10 years old and you've noticed any performance issues, it's worth having a licensed plumber inspect it. Many Westlake homes still have original units installed during construction in the 1980s or 1990s, which are well overdue for replacement.
What size water heater does a large Westlake home need?
Sizing depends on the number of people in the home and peak hot water demand, not just square footage. A typical family of four needs at least a 50-gallon tank, but larger Westlake homes with 5 or more bathrooms, multiple showers running simultaneously, and features like soaking tubs may need 75 to 80 gallons — or a properly sized tankless system with adequate flow rate. Undersizing is one of the most common mistakes we see, and it results in running out of hot water during morning routines. A licensed plumber can calculate the right capacity for your specific household before any purchase is made.
How much does water heater replacement cost in Westlake?
The cost of replacing a water heater in Westlake depends on the type of system, the capacity required, and the complexity of the installation. A straightforward like-for-like tank replacement in a standard utility room typically falls in the range of $1,200 to $2,200 installed, depending on the unit size and brand. Tankless water heater installations tend to run higher — often $2,500 to $4,500 or more — because they may require gas line upgrades, venting changes, or electrical modifications, particularly in older homes. Hybrid heat pump systems are priced similarly to tankless. We provide upfront quotes before any work begins so you know exactly what you're agreeing to, with no surprises after the job is done.
