About Our Water Heater Repair in Westlake

Homes built throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s in Westlake often still have their original plumbing configurations, and many water heaters in the area are working with older gas lines, corroded fittings, and sediment buildup from years of Central Texas hard water. Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air brings the kind of hands-on experience that these premium systems require. We're not guessing — we're reading the signs that older water heaters show before they fail, and we're fixing problems at their source rather than patching over them.

Westlake homeowners expect a high standard of workmanship, and that's exactly what we deliver. Our technicians arrive with the knowledge and equipment to handle both conventional tank water heaters and the high-efficiency or specialty units that have been retrofitted into these homes over the years. We give you upfront pricing before any work begins, so you're never caught off guard by the bill. When your hot water situation can't wait, we're available for emergency service too.

Water Heater Repair Services We Provide in Westlake

Sediment Flush and Tank Cleaning

Westlake's hard water leaves mineral deposits in tank water heaters over time, reducing efficiency and causing the rumbling or popping sounds many homeowners hear. We flush the tank and clear sediment buildup to restore heating capacity and extend the life of the unit. For older tanks that have never been flushed, this service alone can make a significant difference in performance.

Thermostat and Heating Element Repair

When your water isn't reaching the right temperature or runs hot then cold unpredictably, a failing thermostat or heating element is often the culprit. We test and replace these components on both electric and gas water heaters, restoring reliable hot water delivery. This is a common repair in Westlake homes where aging units have been running continuously for 15 or more years.

Pilot Light and Ignition Repair

A gas water heater that won't stay lit or keeps tripping the ignition is both inconvenient and potentially unsafe. We diagnose whether the issue is a faulty thermocouple, a dirty pilot orifice, or a problem with the gas valve, and we make the correct repair so the unit lights and burns reliably. Older gas water heaters in Westlake's established homes often need these components serviced as they age.

Pressure Relief Valve Replacement

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety component, and on older water heaters it can corrode, leak, or fail to open when it should. We inspect and replace faulty TPR valves to keep your system operating safely. This is especially important in homes where the original water heater installation dates back two or more decades.

Anode Rod Replacement

The sacrificial anode rod inside your tank prevents corrosion, but it depletes over time and needs periodic replacement. In Westlake, where many homes have had the same water heater for a long stretch, depleted anode rods are one of the leading causes of early tank failure. We check the rod's condition and swap it out when needed to protect your tank and extend its useful life.

Leaking Water Heater Repair

A water heater that's dripping or pooling water around the base can stem from a loose fitting, a failing valve, or a tank that's beginning to corrode from the inside. We locate the source of the leak quickly and assess whether a targeted repair can solve the problem. For Westlake homeowners with finished utility spaces or hardwood floors nearby, catching and fixing a leak early prevents far more costly damage down the line.

Gas Line and Connections Service

Older gas water heaters in Westlake homes sometimes develop issues with the supply connections, flex connectors, or shutoff valves that feed them. We inspect the full gas connection assembly for wear, corrosion, or improper fittings and make repairs that meet current safety standards. Working with aging gas infrastructure requires care and experience, and our team brings both.

Emergency Water Heater Repair

A failed water heater doesn't wait for business hours, and neither do we. If your unit stops working suddenly or you're dealing with a leak that can't wait, our emergency service team is available to get out to your Westlake home and address the problem. We carry common repair parts on the truck so many urgent repairs can be completed in a single visit.

We Know Westlake Homes

The neighborhoods west of Austin along Bee Cave Road and into the hills are filled with substantial homes built during Westlake's development boom from the 1970s through the 1990s. These properties were built with quality materials, but plumbing systems from that era have their own set of aging patterns: galvanized pipe that's seen better days, water heater closets that weren't designed with modern units in mind, and original gas configurations that require careful handling. Knowing what you're looking at before you open a panel or pull a unit matters, and our technicians have seen the inside of enough Westlake homes to know what to expect.

Central Texas hard water is tough on water heaters throughout the region, but homes in Westlake with long-running tank units often have years of sediment accumulation that compounds every other issue the system develops. The mature landscaping and tree canopy these properties are known for is beautiful, but it also means utility lines and exterior plumbing run through a more complex environment. When you call Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air, you're getting a team that treats your home's infrastructure with the same attention to detail that went into building it.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does water heater repair typically cost in Westlake?
Water heater repair costs in Westlake generally range from around $150 for a straightforward fix like a thermocouple replacement up to $500 or more for parts like a gas valve or heating element on an older unit. The age and condition of the system matters a lot — a water heater that hasn't been serviced in many years may have multiple components that need attention at the same time. We always provide an upfront estimate after diagnosing the problem, so you know the full cost before we start. If a repair isn't cost-effective relative to the unit's remaining life, we'll tell you that directly and walk you through replacement options.
My water heater is from the early 2000s — is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
A water heater that's 20 or more years old is approaching or past the end of its typical service life, which is generally 8 to 12 years for most tank units. That said, some well-maintained units in Westlake homes have lasted considerably longer, especially if they've been flushed periodically and had anode rods replaced. If the tank itself is corroded or leaking from the bottom, replacement is almost always the right call. If the problem is a replaceable component like a thermostat, heating element, or valve, a repair can still make sense depending on the overall condition. We'll give you an honest read on whether the unit has life left in it.
Can hard water really damage my water heater?
Yes, and it is one of the most common contributors to premature water heater failure throughout the Austin area, including Westlake. Hard water carries dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium that settle and harden inside the tank over time, forming scale on heating elements and a sediment layer on the tank floor. This forces the unit to work harder to heat water, shortens the life of heating elements, and eventually compromises the tank lining. Regular flushing and anode rod replacement help offset the effects of hard water significantly. Some homeowners in the area also install a water softener upstream of the water heater, which reduces mineral buildup substantially over the long run.
