About Our Water Heater Services in Round Rock

Round Rock's rapid growth means we work on homes from a wide spectrum of eras, and that variety shapes the way we approach every job. Older homes built in the 1980s and 1990s often have aging tank water heaters that are well past their useful life, while newer construction sometimes comes with builder-grade units that underperform for larger families. Our Master Plumbers assess what you actually have, what your household actually needs, and match you with the right system — not just the easiest sell.

We also know that Round Rock's water supply comes with its share of mineral hardness, which accelerates sediment buildup inside traditional tank heaters and shortens their lifespan. Whether you're considering a tankless system to save space and energy, or you just need a dependable replacement for a unit that's finally given out, Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air brings honest recommendations and skilled installation to every job in Round Rock.

Water Heater Repair

From failing heating elements to a pressure relief valve that's leaking, our team diagnoses the real issue and fixes it right the first time. Round Rock homes — especially those built in the '90s with original equipment — often show repair needs that signal a bigger underlying problem, and we'll be straight with you about what makes sense to fix versus replace.

Water Heater Replacement

When your water heater is 10 or more years old and repairs are becoming more frequent, replacement is usually the smarter investment. We help Round Rock homeowners compare their options honestly and install a new system the same day in most cases.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are a strong fit for Round Rock households that want on-demand hot water without a large tank taking up closet or garage space. We size, install, and configure tankless units for your home's specific flow rate and usage patterns so performance matches expectations from day one.

Sediment Flush and Tank Maintenance

Round Rock's water is notably hard, and mineral sediment collects at the bottom of tank water heaters faster here than in softer-water markets. A regular flush clears that buildup, restores efficiency, and extends the life of your unit by several years.

Pressure Relief Valve Replacement

The T&P valve is a critical safety component on every tank water heater, and it's one of the first parts to fail as a unit ages. Our plumbers inspect and replace faulty valves quickly to keep your system operating safely and up to code.

Hybrid and Heat Pump Water Heaters

For Round Rock homeowners focused on energy costs, hybrid electric and heat pump water heaters deliver significant long-term savings by using ambient air to assist with heating. These systems pair especially well with newer, well-insulated homes that have the garage or utility space to accommodate them.

Water Heater Expansion Tank Installation

Many Round Rock homes with closed plumbing systems require an expansion tank to handle thermal expansion and protect the water heater and pipes from pressure damage. This is a code requirement in many cases, and we install them properly during new installs and replacements.

Emergency Water Heater Service

A water heater that's leaking or has completely stopped producing hot water can't wait until next week. We offer emergency service in Round Rock so you're not left without hot water any longer than necessary.

Gas Line Connections for Water Heaters

Gas water heater installations and replacements require proper gas line work to be done safely and to code. Our licensed plumbers handle the full connection, inspect for leaks, and ensure everything is set before we leave your home.

Plumbing Repairs

Sometimes a water heater issue is connected to a broader plumbing problem, such as corroded supply lines, failing shutoff valves, or damaged fittings. Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air handles all related plumbing repairs so your whole system is in good shape after we leave.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock's housing stock spans about four decades, and that range matters when it comes to water heaters. Homes built in the 1980s and early 1990s in established neighborhoods like Brushy Creek and Forest Creek often still have their original plumbing infrastructure, which can include corroded supply lines and undersized water heater setups that were never upgraded. We've worked in enough of these homes to know where the issues tend to hide and what to check before we ever touch the unit itself.

On the newer end, Round Rock's ongoing development has brought large subdivisions with high-volume water demand and homes that were sometimes fitted with builder-grade tank heaters that wear out faster than premium equipment. Add in the area's hard water, which quietly shortens tank life by accelerating sediment accumulation, and you've got a market where water heater service calls are common and local knowledge genuinely matters. Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air brings that familiarity to every job.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a water heater typically last in Round Rock?
Most traditional tank water heaters last between 8 and 12 years under normal conditions, but Round Rock's hard water can shorten that range significantly. Mineral sediment builds up at the bottom of the tank over time, forcing the heating elements to work harder and wearing the unit out faster. Tankless water heaters generally last 15 to 20 years with proper maintenance. If your unit is approaching 10 years old and you're noticing any performance issues, it's worth having it evaluated before it fails unexpectedly.
What does water heater replacement cost in Round Rock?
A standard tank water heater replacement in Round Rock typically runs between $900 and $1,500 installed, depending on the size of the unit and any additional work needed like expansion tank installation or updated connections. Tankless water heater installations generally range from $1,500 to $3,000 or more depending on whether gas line modifications are required. We provide upfront quotes before any work begins so you know exactly what you're committing to. Financing is available for qualifying jobs if you need flexibility.
Is a tankless water heater worth it for a Round Rock home?
For many Round Rock households, yes. Tankless units heat water on demand rather than keeping a large tank hot around the clock, which reduces energy use noticeably over time. They also take up far less space and have a longer lifespan than traditional tanks. The higher upfront cost is the main consideration, but homeowners who plan to stay in their home for several years usually see a solid return. The key is proper sizing — an undersized tankless unit won't keep up with a busy household, so getting the right unit matched to your flow rate is critical.
Does hard water in Round Rock affect my water heater?
It does, and it's one of the more common issues we see in this area. Round Rock's water supply contains a relatively high mineral content, particularly calcium and magnesium. Over time, those minerals settle as sediment inside the tank and coat heating elements, which reduces efficiency and increases the energy needed to heat the water. Regular flushing can slow this process and extend the life of the unit. If you have a tankless system, hard water can also scale the heat exchanger and reduce flow rates if it isn't maintained properly.
How do I know if my water heater needs repair or full replacement?
Age is the most important factor. If your unit is under 8 years old and the issue is isolated — a bad heating element, a faulty thermostat, or a leaking valve — repair usually makes sense. If it's 10 or more years old, repairs are often just a short-term fix before the next failure, and replacement becomes the better investment. Persistent rust-colored water, leaking from the tank body itself, or a unit that keeps failing are all strong indicators that replacement is the right call. We'll give you an honest assessment when we inspect it.
How long does water heater installation take?
A straightforward tank water heater swap in an existing location typically takes two to three hours from start to finish. If we're installing a tankless unit for the first time, running new gas lines, or updating the electrical setup, the job can take four to six hours or longer depending on the complexity. We aim to complete most installations in a single visit so your household isn't without hot water overnight. In most cases, we can schedule Round Rock jobs within one to two business days, and same-day service is sometimes available for urgent situations.
