Tankless Water Heater Replacement

Already have a tankless unit that has reached the end of its life or is underperforming? We remove your old system and install a new one sized to your current household needs. Homes in Round Rock that were built in the 1990s and early 2000s often have original tankless units that are well past their peak efficiency, and replacing them with a modern system can make a noticeable difference on your energy bill.

Tankless Water Heater Repair

Error codes, inconsistent temperatures, and ignition failures are common issues with tankless systems — especially in areas with hard water like Round Rock. Our technicians diagnose the problem accurately and fix it rather than guessing. We work on all major brands and can get most repairs completed in a single visit.

Gas Line Assessment and Upgrade

Tankless water heaters — especially whole-home gas models — require a larger gas supply line than most tank units. In older Round Rock homes with undersized gas lines, this upgrade is a necessary part of any tankless installation. We assess your existing line, handle any required upgrades, and ensure your new unit gets the fuel volume it needs to operate at full capacity.

Descaling and Flush Maintenance

Round Rock sits in the Texas Hill Country corridor and has notably hard water. Mineral deposits accumulate inside the heat exchanger over time, reducing efficiency and eventually causing unit failure. We perform descaling flushes that clear out calcium and lime buildup, restoring your tankless unit's performance and extending its lifespan significantly.

Hot Water Recirculation System Installation

In larger Round Rock homes, waiting two or three minutes for hot water to reach a far bathroom is a daily frustration. A recirculation system keeps hot water moving through your pipes so it arrives nearly instantly at any fixture. We integrate these systems with new or existing tankless installations for faster delivery and less water waste.

Whole-Home vs. Point-of-Use Sizing Consultation

Choosing between a single whole-home tankless unit and multiple point-of-use units is not always obvious. For some Round Rock homes with long pipe runs or detached garages with bathrooms, a hybrid approach makes more sense. Our plumbers walk through the options honestly so you invest in the right setup for your floor plan and usage habits.

Venting and Exhaust Configuration

Proper venting is one of the most critical parts of a gas tankless installation — and one of the most commonly done wrong by inexperienced installers. We configure your venting to manufacturer specs and local code requirements, whether your home requires direct vent, power vent, or concentric vent configurations. Getting this right protects your family and your warranty.

Water Heater System Overview and Comparison

Not sure if tankless is the right choice for your home? We offer honest comparisons between tankless, traditional tank, and hybrid heat pump water heaters so you can make an informed decision. Round Rock homeowners tend to research thoroughly before committing, and we welcome those conversations without pushing you toward any particular product.

Permit Coordination and Code Compliance

Round Rock requires permits for water heater installations, and getting that paperwork right matters for your home's resale value and insurance coverage. We handle permit coordination as part of our installation process, so you are not left managing paperwork or scheduling inspections on your own. Everything gets done by the book.

Post-Installation System Testing and Walkthrough

After installation, we run your new tankless system through a full operational test to confirm proper ignition, water temperature accuracy, and flow rate. We also walk you through the controls, explain routine maintenance steps, and answer questions before we pack up. You should understand how your new system works — not just trust that it does.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock has an unusually wide range of home ages for a suburb its size. You have established neighborhoods from the 1980s and early 1990s near downtown where original plumbing is still in place, alongside sprawling developments from the 2000s and 2010s, and brand-new construction going up near the toll roads. Older homes in Round Rock often have undersized gas lines, galvanized or polybutylene supply lines, and tank water heaters that have been quietly working well past their expected lifespan. We know what to look for in each era of construction and how to plan a tankless installation around whatever we find.

Round Rock's water supply is also notably hard, which accelerates scale buildup inside tankless heat exchangers faster than in softer water areas. Homeowners who do not have a softener installed need to factor that into their maintenance plan from day one. We account for local water quality when sizing systems, recommending maintenance intervals, and advising on whether a pre-filter or softener makes sense for your setup. That kind of local context is something you simply cannot get from a company that is just passing through the area.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does tankless water heater installation cost in Round Rock?
The total cost for tankless water heater installation in Round Rock typically ranges from $1,500 to $3,500 or more depending on the unit you choose, whether gas line upgrades are needed, and the complexity of the venting setup. Gas tankless units generally cost more to install than electric ones due to venting and gas line requirements, but they tend to be more cost-effective over time. Whole-home units sized for larger households are priced higher than point-of-use models. We provide upfront pricing after an on-site assessment so you know the full number before any work begins.
Will a tankless water heater work well with Round Rock's hard water?
Round Rock has notably hard water, and that does affect tankless water heaters. Mineral deposits build up inside the heat exchanger faster in hard water areas, which reduces efficiency and can cause premature failure if not addressed. Most manufacturers recommend annual descaling flushes for homes with hard water. Installing a water softener or a dedicated pre-filter upstream of your tankless unit can extend the time between maintenance visits and protect your investment. We factor in your water quality when recommending units and maintenance intervals.
How long does a tankless water heater installation take?
A standard tankless water heater installation typically takes between three and six hours for a single-day job. If your home requires a gas line upgrade or significant venting changes, it may extend to a full day or require a follow-up visit. We schedule a time that works for you, arrive prepared with the right materials, and aim to complete the job in one visit whenever possible. You will have hot water running before we leave.
Do I need a permit for tankless water heater installation in Round Rock?
Yes, Round Rock requires a permit for water heater replacements and new installations. Skipping the permit process is not worth the risk — it can create problems when you sell your home and may affect your homeowner's insurance coverage if something goes wrong. We handle permit coordination as part of our installation process so you do not have to manage that paperwork on your own. All work is done to code and is ready for inspection.
What size tankless water heater do I need for my Round Rock home?
Sizing depends on your household's peak hot water demand, measured in gallons per minute. A family of four in a typical Round Rock home running two showers and a dishwasher simultaneously might need a unit capable of delivering 7 to 9 gallons per minute. Incoming water temperature also plays a role — Texas groundwater is warmer than in northern states, which actually helps your unit perform efficiently in the summer but matters less than you might think on cold winter mornings. We calculate the right size based on your specific fixtures, household size, and usage patterns.
How long do tankless water heaters last compared to traditional tank units?
A well-maintained tankless water heater typically lasts 15 to 20 years, compared to 8 to 12 years for a conventional tank unit. The key phrase is well-maintained — in Round Rock's hard water environment, skipping descaling flushes will significantly shorten that lifespan. Most manufacturers also require annual maintenance to keep the warranty valid. The longer lifespan of a tankless unit is one of the main reasons the higher upfront cost tends to pay off over time when you factor in energy savings and fewer replacements.
