About Our Water Heater Replacement in Round Rock

Round Rock has grown dramatically over the past four decades, and that means the housing stock here spans a wide range of ages and conditions. Older neighborhoods near downtown Round Rock often have water heaters that have been running well past their prime, while newer master-planned communities sometimes come with builder-grade tank units that aren't built to last. Cold is on the Right works across all of Round Rock — we know the plumbing setups, the water quality, and the specific demands these homes put on their equipment.

Round Rock sits in an area with notoriously hard water, which accelerates sediment buildup inside tank water heaters and shortens their lifespan considerably. If your unit is pushing 10 years or older, you're likely dealing with reduced efficiency and increased risk of failure. We help Round Rock homeowners make the right call on whether to repair or replace, and we carry tank and tankless options to fit any household size, budget, and setup.

Water Heater Replacement Services We Provide in Round Rock

Traditional Tank Water Heater Replacement

We remove your old tank unit and install a properly sized replacement matched to your household's demand. For Round Rock homes, we pay close attention to sediment protection and anode rod quality given the area's hard water. This is the most common replacement path and we carry top-tier units in stock.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless systems heat water on demand and eliminate the standby heat loss that tank units suffer from. Round Rock homeowners in larger homes or households with high hot water usage frequently find that going tankless pays for itself over time. We handle the gas line upgrades, venting, and permitting that tankless installations often require.

Water Heater Repair vs. Replacement Assessment

Not every problem means you need a brand-new unit, and not every repair is worth making on an aging system. We give Round Rock homeowners an honest evaluation of what their current water heater actually needs, factoring in the unit's age, condition, and local water quality. If replacement is the smarter move, we'll tell you why and show you the numbers.

Learn More

Gas Water Heater Replacement

Gas water heaters are common throughout Round Rock's older neighborhoods and offer faster recovery times than electric units. We replace gas water heaters safely, including inspecting burner assemblies, gas connections, and flue venting to meet current code requirements. Proper installation protects your family and ensures your new unit performs reliably for years.

Learn More

Electric Water Heater Replacement

Many Round Rock homes — especially those built in newer subdivisions — run on electric water heaters. We replace aging electric units with energy-efficient models and verify that your electrical panel can handle the load of a newer, higher-performance unit. We coordinate with your electrical setup so the installation is clean and code-compliant from day one.

Learn More

Water Heater Sizing and Capacity Upgrade

Growing families in Round Rock's expanding subdivisions often find that the original builder-installed unit wasn't sized for how they actually live. We calculate first-hour delivery rates and daily demand to recommend a unit that genuinely keeps up. Upgrading capacity eliminates the cold-shower problem and reduces the strain that an undersized heater puts on itself.

Learn More

Pressure Relief Valve and Safety Component Replacement

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety component, and it's often overlooked until it fails or starts leaking. During any water heater replacement in Round Rock, we inspect and replace safety components as needed so your new installation meets code and operates safely. This is a standard part of how we do business — not an upsell.

Learn More

Water Heater Expansion Tank Installation

Round Rock's water supply operates under closed-system conditions in many neighborhoods, which means an expansion tank is required by code to prevent dangerous pressure buildup. We install expansion tanks during water heater replacements when needed and always verify whether your home's system requires one. Skipping this step can void your new unit's warranty — we make sure it's done right.

Learn More

Water Heater Relocation

Some Round Rock homeowners take a replacement as an opportunity to move their water heater to a better location — a garage, utility closet, or closer to high-demand areas of the home. We handle all the plumbing, gas or electrical rerouting, and venting adjustments that a relocation requires. It's a bigger job, but it can meaningfully improve your home's efficiency and free up usable space.

Learn More

Sediment Flush and Pre-Replacement Evaluation

Round Rock's hard water accelerates mineral buildup inside water heater tanks, and sometimes a thorough flush can extend the life of a unit that isn't ready to be replaced yet. We assess the degree of sediment accumulation and tell you honestly whether a flush makes sense or whether you're better off putting that money toward a replacement. Either way, you'll leave with a clear picture of where your system stands.

Learn More

Emergency Water Heater Replacement

A leaking or burst water heater in a Round Rock home can cause serious damage fast, especially in homes where the unit is located in a finished area rather than a garage. We offer emergency replacement service for situations that can't wait for a scheduled appointment. Call us and we'll get a licensed technician to your home as quickly as possible to assess and replace the failed unit.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock has layers — the established neighborhoods near Old Town, the 1990s subdivisions that filled in quickly as the city grew, and the large master-planned communities that keep going up along the 45 and 35 corridors. Each of those eras brought different plumbing materials, different water heater configurations, and different failure patterns we've come to recognize well. Homes from the late 1980s and 1990s often have original water heaters that are well past due, and the hard water that runs through Round Rock's supply lines hasn't been kind to those tanks over the years.

The mineral content in Round Rock's water supply is genuinely one of the biggest factors shortening water heater lifespans here. We've pulled tanks out of homes in this area that look like the inside of a limestone cave after just 8 or 9 years of service. That's why we talk to every Round Rock homeowner about sediment management, the value of water softening, and how the right unit choice from the start can make a real difference in how long their next water heater lasts. We're not just here to swap boxes — we're here to make sure the next one goes the distance.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does water heater replacement cost in Round Rock?
The cost of water heater replacement in Round Rock typically ranges from around $900 to $1,800 for a standard tank unit, depending on the size, fuel type, and any modifications needed during installation. Tankless systems run higher, generally $1,500 to $3,500 or more depending on whether gas line upgrades or new venting is required. Round Rock homes sometimes need expansion tanks installed to meet current code, which adds a modest cost to the job. Upfront pricing is something we take seriously — you'll know the total before any work begins so there are no surprises.
How long does a water heater last in Round Rock with the local water quality?
Most tank water heaters in Round Rock last between 8 and 12 years, though the area's hard water can push units toward the lower end of that range by accelerating sediment buildup and corrosion inside the tank. Homes that don't have a water softener in place tend to see more wear on their water heaters over time. Electric water heaters generally outlast gas units by a few years on average. Tankless systems, because they don't hold standing water, tend to be less affected by mineral buildup and can last 15 to 20 years with proper maintenance.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
The general rule of thumb is that if your water heater is more than 8 to 10 years old and something significant has failed, replacement is usually the smarter financial move. For a younger unit, a targeted repair like replacing a heating element or thermocouple often makes more sense. In Round Rock, sediment-related problems on older units are common and can signal that the tank interior is already compromised, making repairs a short-term fix at best. We always give homeowners an honest assessment of both options with real numbers so you can decide without pressure.
Is a tankless water heater worth it for a Round Rock home?
For many Round Rock households, especially larger families or homes with high simultaneous hot water demand, tankless systems are worth the higher upfront investment. They eliminate standby heat loss and can reduce water heating costs by 20 to 35 percent in households that use hot water at multiple points at the same time. The honest caveat is that homes on natural gas need to verify that the gas line can support the higher BTU demand of a tankless unit, which sometimes requires an upgrade. Homes in newer Round Rock subdivisions tend to be well-suited for tankless because the gas infrastructure is more modern.
How long does a water heater replacement take to complete?
A standard tank-to-tank replacement in Round Rock typically takes between two and four hours from start to finish, including removing the old unit, installing the new one, and testing the system. Jobs that involve gas line upgrades, new venting, or moving the water heater to a different location will take longer and require more planning. Tankless installations are generally more involved and can take four to six hours or longer depending on the specifics of your home's setup. We'll give you a realistic time estimate before scheduling so you can plan your day accordingly.
Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in Round Rock?
Yes, the City of Round Rock requires a permit for water heater replacement, and the work must be performed by a licensed plumber. Permits exist to ensure the installation meets safety codes, including proper venting, pressure relief valve installation, and gas connection requirements. Some contractors skip permits to cut costs or time, but that approach can create problems when you sell your home or if something goes wrong with the installation. We handle the permit process as part of every water heater replacement job so you don't have to worry about it.
