About Our Water Heater Repair in Round Rock

Round Rock has grown fast, and so has the variety of water heater systems we see on the job. Homes built in the 1980s and 1990s in established neighborhoods like Brushy Creek or Round Rock West often have original or once-replaced tank water heaters that are showing their age. Sediment buildup from the area's notoriously hard water is one of the most common issues we diagnose, and it can quietly shorten the lifespan of a water heater by years if it's not addressed.

Cold is on the Right knows that Round Rock homeowners do their homework before hiring anyone. That's why we lead with upfront pricing, clear explanations, and no upsell tactics. We'll tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether a replacement is the smarter long-term move for your home. You get the information you need to make a confident decision, not just a sales pitch.

Water Heater Repair Services We Provide in Round Rock

No Hot Water Diagnosis

Running out of hot water or getting none at all is one of the most disruptive plumbing problems a household can face. We diagnose the root cause quickly, whether it's a failed heating element, a tripped thermostat, a faulty gas valve, or something else. Round Rock's hard water can cause sediment to coat heating elements over time, making this a more common issue than most homeowners expect.

Water Heater Leak Repair

A leaking water heater needs attention right away, whether the source is a loose fitting, a faulty pressure relief valve, or a corroded tank. We locate the leak, assess the damage, and repair it before water causes serious problems to your floors or walls. In garages and utility closets common to Round Rock homes, a slow drip can go unnoticed long enough to do real damage.

Learn More

Sediment Flush and Tank Cleaning

Round Rock's water supply is hard, and that mineral content settles at the bottom of your tank over time, reducing efficiency and creating that rumbling noise many homeowners mistake for a serious problem. A professional sediment flush clears out the buildup, restores heating performance, and extends the life of your unit. We recommend this as regular maintenance for any tank water heater in this area.

Learn More

Thermostat and Heating Element Replacement

Electric water heaters rely on upper and lower heating elements that wear out over time, especially when hard water accelerates sediment buildup around them. We test both the thermostat and the elements to pinpoint which component has failed and replace it with a quality part. This repair is often far less expensive than a full replacement and can add years to the life of your existing unit.

Learn More

Pressure Relief Valve Repair and Replacement

The T&P valve is a critical safety component that prevents dangerous pressure buildup inside your tank. If yours is leaking, corroded, or failing to seat properly, it needs to be addressed promptly. This is a quick repair when caught early, and our technicians check valve condition on every water heater service call in Round Rock.

Learn More

Pilot Light and Gas Valve Repair

Gas water heaters in Round Rock homes sometimes lose their pilot light or develop faulty gas valves that prevent the burner from firing correctly. We safely inspect and service the entire gas train, from the supply line to the thermocouple and beyond. If the valve itself needs replacement, we carry common parts and can handle it in the same visit in most cases.

Learn More

Anode Rod Replacement

The sacrificial anode rod inside your tank is what prevents corrosion, and once it's depleted, your tank's steel lining becomes vulnerable. In Round Rock's hard water conditions, anode rods can wear out faster than the national average. Replacing it at the right interval is one of the most cost-effective ways to keep a tank water heater running for its full expected lifespan.

Water Heater Replacement

Older water heaters in Round Rock, especially units installed in homes built before 2000, often reach a point where continued repairs cost more than a new system. We'll give you an honest assessment and handle the full replacement process efficiently, from removal to final testing. Our upfront pricing means you know exactly what you're paying before we start.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless systems are a popular upgrade for Round Rock homeowners who want on-demand hot water and lower energy bills over time. We size the system correctly for your home's demand, handle all gas or electrical work, and walk you through how the system operates. Many tech-savvy Round Rock homeowners are making this switch as their old tank units age out.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock has some of the most varied housing stock in the greater Austin area. We see everything from 1980s brick ranchers in older subdivisions near downtown Round Rock to sprawling two-story homes in newer master-planned communities like Teravista and Forest Creek. The older homes often have original plumbing configurations and water heaters that have been repaired once or twice already, while newer builds sometimes come with undersized tank units that struggle to keep up with large households from day one.

Hard water is a persistent reality in this part of Williamson County, and it takes a real toll on water heaters over time. Sediment accumulates faster here than in softer-water markets, and that affects heating efficiency, anode rod life, and the overall longevity of the unit. When you call Cold is on the Right, you're getting a technician who already knows what they're likely to find before they arrive, and that experience means a faster diagnosis and a more accurate repair the first time.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does water heater repair typically cost in Round Rock?
Most water heater repairs in Round Rock fall somewhere between $150 and $600, depending on what needs to be fixed. Simpler repairs like a thermostat swap or a pressure relief valve replacement land on the lower end, while a heating element replacement or gas valve repair tends to cost more. Hard water in this area accelerates wear on components like anode rods and heating elements, so those repairs come up more frequently here than in softer-water markets. We always give you an upfront price before starting any work, so you know exactly what you're paying with no surprises.
My water heater is making a rumbling noise. Do I need to repair or replace it?
A rumbling or popping noise is almost always caused by sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank, which is very common in Round Rock due to the area's hard water. The sediment layer forces the burner to work harder to heat the water, which creates that knocking sound. In many cases, a professional sediment flush resolves the noise and restores efficiency without replacing the unit. If the tank itself is corroded or the heater is more than 12 to 15 years old, replacement may make more financial sense, and we'll tell you honestly which way to go.
How long does a water heater repair take?
Most standard water heater repairs in Round Rock take between one and two hours from the time we arrive. Simple fixes like replacing a thermostat, a heating element, or a faulty valve can often be done in a single visit if we have the right parts on the truck, which we usually do for common repairs. More complex issues involving gas line components or significant corrosion may take longer or require a follow-up visit. We'll give you a realistic time estimate once we've diagnosed the problem.
Should I repair my water heater or replace it?
A good rule of thumb is that if the repair cost is more than half the price of a new unit and your heater is already over eight to ten years old, replacement usually makes more sense long-term. For a newer unit with a single failed component, repair is almost always the better financial move. In Round Rock specifically, hard water can age a water heater faster than the manufacturer's rated lifespan suggests, so we factor that in when giving you our recommendation. We'll be straight with you about which option makes more sense for your situation and your budget.
Why is my hot water rusty or discolored in Round Rock?
Rusty or discolored hot water usually points to one of two things: a corroding anode rod that's no longer protecting the tank, or a tank that has already started to rust from the inside. In Round Rock, where hard water speeds up corrosion, anode rods can wear out faster than expected, especially if they haven't been replaced in several years. If the discoloration is mild and the heater is relatively young, replacing the anode rod often clears it up. If the tank itself is corroded, that's generally a sign it's time for a full replacement, since a rusting tank can't be repaired long-term.
Do you offer same-day or emergency water heater repair in Round Rock?
Yes, we offer emergency plumbing service to Round Rock homeowners who need help right away. A water heater that's leaking, flooding, or has completely stopped working isn't something most households can wait a week to fix. When you contact us for an emergency, we'll get a technician to you as quickly as possible and give you a clear price before starting any work. Emergency calls are handled with the same upfront pricing and licensed technicians as our standard service calls.
