About Our Water Heater Services in Lakeway

Lakeway has a character unlike most Austin-area communities. Homes here range from 1970s and '80s lakeside properties with aging plumbing infrastructure to newer builds in developments like Rough Hollow and Lakeway Highlands. Older homes often have water heaters that have been quietly running for far too long — and in a community this close to Lake Travis, the humidity and mineral content of the water can accelerate corrosion and sediment buildup inside tanks. We've seen it firsthand, and we know what to look for before a slow problem turns into a flooded utility room.

At Cold is on the Right, we take the time to understand your home before recommending a solution. If your 1980s tank unit is on its last legs, we'll talk you through whether repair makes sense or whether upgrading to a tankless or hybrid system is the smarter long-term move. We're not here to upsell you — we're here to give you honest advice from plumbers who genuinely know this community and want to earn your trust for the long haul.

Water Heater Services We Provide in Lakeway

Water Heater Installation

Whether you're replacing a failed unit or upgrading an older system in a home that's been on the lake for decades, we handle water heater installation from start to finish. Water Heater Repair

Strange noises, inconsistent temperatures, or a pilot light that won't stay lit are all signs your water heater needs attention. In older Lakeway homes, sediment buildup from local water conditions can cause heating elements to work harder than they should, shortening the unit's life. Our plumbers diagnose the real issue quickly and give you a clear, honest repair recommendation.

Water Heater Replacement

When a repair no longer makes financial sense, we help you select and install the right replacement system for your home. For Lakeway properties with older plumbing, replacement is often the opportunity to upgrade to a more efficient unit and address any surrounding pipe or valve wear at the same time. We make the transition straightforward with upfront pricing and no pressure.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are an excellent fit for many Lakeway homes — they free up utility closet space, deliver hot water on demand, and operate more efficiently than conventional tank systems. They're especially popular in newer Lakeway builds where homeowners are thinking long-term about energy costs. We install and configure tankless units properly so you get the performance you're paying for.

Hybrid and Heat Pump Water Heaters

Hybrid electric and heat pump water heaters use ambient air to assist with heating, which significantly cuts energy consumption compared to standard electric tank units. For Lakeway homeowners looking to reduce utility costs without sacrificing hot water availability, these systems are worth a serious look. We'll walk you through whether your utility room setup and household usage make a hybrid system the right call.

Water Heater Flush and Maintenance

Sediment accumulates in tank water heaters over time, and in a community like Lakeway where humidity and local water conditions can accelerate that process, regular flushing matters. A professional flush removes mineral buildup, improves efficiency, and extends the life of your unit. We recommend annual maintenance for most tank systems — especially those in homes that have been here since the '80s or '90s.

Anode Rod Replacement

The anode rod inside your water heater tank is what keeps it from corroding from the inside out — and most homeowners never think about it until it's too late. In Lakeway's humid environment, tanks without a functioning anode rod deteriorate faster than average. Replacing this small but critical component on schedule is one of the most cost-effective ways to extend your water heater's lifespan.

Pressure Relief Valve Service

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety component on every tank water heater, and a faulty one is a genuine hazard. We inspect, test, and replace T&P valves as part of our maintenance and repair services. This is especially important on older Lakeway units where valves may not have been serviced in years.

Water Heater Leak Repair

A leaking water heater needs attention immediately — water damage in a home near Lake Travis can compound quickly given the area's humidity levels. We locate the source of the leak, whether it's a loose connection, a failing valve, or a compromised tank, and give you a clear picture of what repair or replacement will look like before any work begins.

Gas Water Heater Services

Many Lakeway homes run gas water heaters, and they require a licensed plumber who understands both the plumbing and gas supply sides of the system. We service and install gas tank and tankless units, check for proper venting, and ensure every connection is safe and up to code. If your gas water heater is misfiring or underperforming, we'll find the root cause.

Plumbing Repairs Related to Water Heater Systems

Water heater issues sometimes point to broader plumbing problems — corroded supply lines, failing shutoff valves, or worn connections that affect performance and water quality. For older Lakeway homes especially, we often find secondary plumbing concerns during a water heater call that are worth addressing at the same time. We'll flag anything we see and let you decide how to proceed.

We Know Lakeway Homes

Lakeway has a real mix of housing stock that shapes how we approach every job. The older homes along and near Lake Travis — many built in the '70s, '80s, and '90s — often have water heaters that were installed long ago and haven't been touched since. The humidity off the lake accelerates corrosion on tank exteriors and shortens the life of internal components, so what might last 12 years in a drier part of the region sometimes fails at 8 or 9 here. We factor that in when we're assessing whether repair or replacement is the smarter path for a given home.

The newer developments in Lakeway bring a different set of considerations. Homes in communities like Rough Hollow were built with modern plumbing but are now hitting the age where first-time water heater replacements are coming due. We know which configurations are common in those builds and what upgrades make sense at that stage of a home's life. Lakeway is a community that values loyalty and local expertise, and that's exactly what Cold is on the Right brings every time we show up.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do water heaters typically last in Lakeway homes?
Most tank water heaters are rated for 8 to 12 years, but in Lakeway the combination of humidity and local water mineral content can push units toward the lower end of that range. Corrosion on the exterior and sediment accumulation inside the tank both happen faster in this environment than in drier parts of Central Texas. If your water heater is approaching 10 years old and was original to an older home near the lake, it's worth having a plumber assess it before it fails unexpectedly. Proactive replacement is almost always less costly and less disruptive than an emergency replacement.
Is a tankless water heater a good fit for my Lakeway home?
Tankless systems are a strong option for many Lakeway homeowners, particularly in newer builds where utility space is limited and long-term efficiency matters. They deliver hot water on demand, eliminate standby heat loss, and can last significantly longer than conventional tank units. That said, the right fit depends on your home's gas line capacity, your household's simultaneous hot water demand, and your current setup. We assess all of those factors before making a recommendation so you're not investing in a system that underperforms for your specific situation.
What causes the rumbling noise coming from my water heater tank?
That sound is almost always sediment — mineral deposits that settle at the bottom of the tank and get disturbed when the heating element fires. It's especially common in homes that have had the same water heater for many years without a professional flush. In Lakeway, where water conditions can accelerate buildup, we see this fairly often in older homes. A thorough flush can resolve the issue and restore efficiency, but if the sediment layer is heavy enough, it may have already caused enough wear that replacement makes more sense.
My hot water looks rusty or has a strange smell — what does that mean?
Discolored or metallic-smelling hot water usually points to corrosion inside the tank, often caused by a depleted or failed anode rod. The anode rod is a sacrificial component designed to corrode in place of the tank walls, and when it's gone, the tank itself starts to rust from the inside. In Lakeway's humid environment, this process can happen faster than homeowners expect. If you're seeing rust-colored water, it's important to have the system inspected promptly — a corroded tank typically cannot be repaired and will need replacement before it leaks.
How much does water heater replacement typically cost in Lakeway?
Costs vary depending on the type of unit, the size, and the complexity of the installation. A standard tank water heater replacement in the Lakeway area generally runs somewhere in the range of $900 to $1,800 installed, depending on capacity and whether any surrounding plumbing needs to be updated at the same time. Tankless systems carry a higher upfront cost, typically $1,500 to $3,000 or more installed, but offer long-term savings on energy bills. We provide upfront pricing specific to your home and situation before any work begins so there are no surprises.
Do you offer emergency water heater service in Lakeway?
Yes. A failed water heater doesn't wait for a convenient time, and we offer emergency service to get Lakeway homeowners back up and running as quickly as possible. Whether it's a complete failure, a significant leak, or a gas unit that's stopped lighting, we respond promptly and come prepared with the tools and parts to address the most common issues. Contact us, and we'll get you taken care of.
