About Our Plumbing Services in Lakeway

At Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air, we've worked in enough Lakeway homes to understand the difference between a quick fix and a real solution. Many homes in this community were built decades ago, and the plumbing systems in those houses have had years to develop problems — corroded supply lines, failing water heaters, slow drains that keep coming back. We don't just address the symptom. We take the time to understand what's actually going on and explain your options in plain language before any work begins.

Lakeway homeowners tend to stay in their homes for the long haul, and we respect that. We're not here to upsell you on things you don't need. Whether you're dealing with a weekend leak near the lake house, planning a bathroom remodel in an older home on Lohmans Crossing, or just want to know the condition of your pipes, we're the team Lakeway residents keep calling back. That matters to us.

Plumbing Services We Provide in Lakeway

Plumbing Repairs

From dripping faucets to burst pipes behind a slab-on-grade foundation, plumbing repairs in Lakeway homes require a technician who understands the age and construction style of the property. Older homes in the 78734 zip code often have copper or galvanized supply lines nearing the end of their service life, and the lake-area humidity can accelerate corrosion at joints and fittings. We diagnose the root cause fast and fix it properly so the same problem doesn't show up again next season.

Drain Cleaning

Slow or backing-up drains are one of the most common calls we get from Lakeway homeowners, especially in older homes where decades of buildup have narrowed drain lines. Tree root intrusion is also a real issue in established neighborhoods with mature landscaping. We use professional-grade equipment to clear the clog and inspect the line so you know whether a cleaning was enough or whether something more is needed.

Learn More

Leak Detection

A hidden leak in a Lakeway home can go unnoticed for months — especially in homes with finished walls, slab foundations, or older pipe materials that tend to fail gradually rather than all at once. Elevated humidity near Lake Travis can also mask moisture problems until real damage has already been done. We use non-invasive detection methods to pinpoint the exact location of a leak before we ever open a wall or cut into a slab.

Learn More

Slab Leak Detection

Slab leaks are a serious concern in Lakeway's older housing stock, where copper pipes embedded in concrete foundations have been under pressure for thirty, forty, or fifty years. Signs like warm spots on tile floors, unexplained spikes in your water bill, or the sound of running water when no fixtures are on all point to a potential slab leak. We locate the problem precisely and walk you through repair options — whether that's a targeted fix or a full repipe — so you can make an informed decision.

Learn More

Whole House Repiping

If your Lakeway home was built in the 1970s or 1980s and still has its original galvanized steel or polybutylene pipes, a whole-house repipe may be the most cost-effective long-term move. These pipe materials degrade over time, restricting water flow and creating ongoing leak risks. We replace aging supply lines with durable modern materials, restoring water pressure throughout your home and giving you peace of mind that the system won't fail at the worst possible time.

Learn More

Sewer Line Replacement

Mature trees in established Lakeway neighborhoods are beautiful, but their root systems are relentless when it comes to finding moisture — and your sewer line is a prime target. Older clay or cast iron sewer lines are especially vulnerable to root intrusion and ground shifting. We inspect and replace damaged sewer lines with minimal disruption to your property, using methods suited to the lot sizes and landscaping common throughout Lakeway.

Emergency Plumbing

A burst pipe, sewage backup, or failed water heater doesn't wait for business hours, and in a lakeside community where many residents have invested significantly in their homes, fast response matters. Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air offers emergency plumbing service to Lakeway homeowners who need help now. We arrive prepared to diagnose and repair on the spot, not just assess and reschedule.

Water Heaters

Water heaters in Lakeway work hard year-round, and the area's moderately hard water accelerates sediment buildup inside tank units, shortening their effective lifespan. Whether your existing unit is struggling to keep up with demand, showing signs of corrosion, or has simply reached the end of its life, we can help you choose the right replacement and install it correctly. We service and install both traditional tank and tankless water heaters across Lakeway.

Learn More

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are a popular upgrade in Lakeway homes, particularly in households that have outgrown the capacity of an older tank unit or want to reduce standby energy loss. These systems deliver hot water on demand and can last significantly longer than traditional tank heaters when properly maintained. We size, install, and configure tankless units for the specific demands of your home's layout and water usage patterns.

Learn More

Water Softeners and Filtration

Lake Travis area water is known for its mineral content, and hard water is a daily reality for most Lakeway households. Over time, that hardness takes a toll on water heaters, fixture valves, and supply line fittings. A properly sized water softener extends the life of your plumbing system and appliances while improving the feel of your water. We also install whole-home filtration systems for homeowners who want cleaner, better-tasting water at every tap.

Learn More

Gas Line Installation

Outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and gas grills are common in Lakeway's lakeside and Hill Country-adjacent homes, and many homeowners want to add or extend gas lines to accommodate them. Gas line work requires a licensed plumber and should never be a DIY project. We handle gas line installation and extension safely and to code, whether you're outfitting a new outdoor living space or adding a gas appliance inside the home.

We Know Lakeway Homes

Lakeway is a community of layers — you've got original 1970s and 80s ranch-style homes sitting alongside newer builds that went up in the last decade, and the plumbing needs in those two types of homes are completely different. In the older homes, we're looking at galvanized and early copper supply lines, original cast iron drain stacks, and water heaters that may have been replaced once but are due again. Proximity to Lake Travis also means elevated ambient humidity, which speeds up corrosion at pipe joints and fittings in ways you simply don't see at the same rate further inland.

Newer construction in Lakeway brings its own set of considerations — demand-intensive plumbing layouts, tankless water heaters that need proper sizing, and gas line work for outdoor living spaces that have become a fixture of lake-area homes. We've worked throughout this community long enough to know what's typical for homes on and off the water, what the local water quality does to equipment over time, and what a Lakeway homeowner actually needs versus what sounds impressive on an estimate. That kind of familiarity is what we bring to every call.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my older Lakeway home needs to be repiped?
Homes built in Lakeway in the 1970s and 1980s often have galvanized steel or early copper supply lines that are approaching or past the end of their functional lifespan. Signs that a repipe may be necessary include persistent low water pressure throughout the home, discolored or rusty water, recurring leaks at multiple locations, or a noticeable drop in water quality. A licensed plumber can inspect your existing pipes and give you an honest assessment of their condition. In many cases, catching deteriorating pipes before they fail saves significantly on water damage remediation costs. A whole-house repipe with modern materials typically takes one to three days depending on the size and layout of the home.
What causes slab leaks in Lakeway homes and how are they repaired?
Slab leaks occur when water supply or drain lines running beneath a concrete foundation develop a breach. In Lakeway's older homes, the most common cause is copper pipe corrosion — decades of chemical interaction between the pipe material, the soil, and the water supply slowly eats through the metal. Ground movement and water pressure fluctuations can also stress pipes over time. Repair options range from targeted spot repairs (cutting into the slab at the precise leak location) to rerouting the line through walls and ceilings, or a full repipe. The right approach depends on the pipe material, the home's age, and whether other sections of the system are also showing wear. Costs vary widely but typically start around $1,000 and can reach several thousand dollars for more complex situations.
Is hard water a real problem for plumbing in the Lakeway area?
Yes, and it's one of the most underestimated contributors to plumbing wear in this area. The water supply serving Lakeway comes from the Highland Lakes system and tends to carry elevated levels of calcium and magnesium. Over time, those minerals deposit inside water heater tanks, narrow fixture valves, and build up at pipe joints — reducing efficiency and accelerating wear on equipment. A water heater in a home without a softener may last eight to ten years; the same unit in a home with properly treated water can last considerably longer. If your water heater is failing earlier than expected or your fixtures are constantly scaling up, hard water is likely a factor worth addressing.
How quickly can you respond to a plumbing emergency in Lakeway?
Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air offers emergency plumbing service and prioritizes urgent calls. Response times can vary based on current call volume and time of day, but we aim to reach Lakeway homes as quickly as possible when there's an active leak, sewage backup, or other situation that can't wait. When you call, be ready to describe what you're seeing so we can send the right technician with the right equipment. In the meantime, if you have a significant leak, locate your main shutoff valve — typically near the street or at the entry point to the home — and close it to minimize water damage while you wait.
My water heater is making noise and running out of hot water faster than it used to. What's going on?
Both of those symptoms point to sediment buildup inside the tank, which is extremely common in the Lakeway area given the mineral content of the local water supply. As calcium and magnesium deposits accumulate on the bottom of the tank, the water heater has to work harder to heat the water above the sediment layer, reducing efficiency and capacity. The popping or rumbling sound is water bubbling through that sediment layer during the heating cycle. In some cases, flushing the tank can extend the unit's life. But if the heater is more than eight to ten years old or the sediment buildup is significant, replacement is often the more cost-effective long-term choice. We can inspect the unit and give you a straight recommendation.
Do you handle outdoor gas line work for fire pits and outdoor kitchens in Lakeway?
Yes, gas line installation and extension for outdoor living spaces is something we do regularly in Lakeway. Outdoor kitchens, fire pits, built-in gas grills, and patio heaters are popular in lake-area homes, and running gas to those features requires a licensed plumber — it's not a project for a general contractor or DIY. We design and install gas lines to code, confirm proper pressure throughout the system, and make sure every connection is tested before we finish the job. If you're planning an outdoor living addition or adding a gas appliance to an existing space, give us a call early in the planning process so the gas line work can be coordinated with the rest of the project timeline.
