About Our Whole House Repiping in Lakeway

Lakeway has one of the most varied housing stocks on the west side of Austin. Homes built in the 1970s and 1980s along the Lake Travis shoreline often still have their original galvanized steel or early copper plumbing — pipe systems that were never designed to last 40-plus years. Add in the humidity that rolls off the lake, the hard well water some properties still rely on, and the mineral-heavy municipal supply, and you have a recipe for accelerated corrosion, pinhole leaks, and steadily worsening water quality. When we come out for a repiping consultation in Lakeway, we already have a good sense of what we're likely to find based on the age and location of the home.

Cold is on the Right treats every repiping project in Lakeway as exactly that — a project, not a patch job. We inspect your full plumbing system, walk you through our findings in plain language, and install modern PEX or copper piping that will serve your household reliably for decades. Lakeway is a community where people put down roots and stay. We think your plumbing should reflect that same long-term commitment, and we approach every job with the kind of care we'd want in our own homes.

Repiping Services We Provide in Lakeway

Full Home Repipe with PEX

PEX piping is one of the best long-term solutions for Lakeway homes dealing with corroded or aging supply lines. It's flexible enough to navigate the tight wall cavities common in 1980s-era construction, resistant to the mineral buildup caused by hard water, and significantly more durable than the galvanized lines it typically replaces. We size, route, and install every run precisely so your new system performs exactly as it should.

Copper Pipe Repiping

For Lakeway homeowners who prefer the proven track record of copper, our team installs full copper repipes using high-quality fittings and careful soldering techniques. Copper holds up exceptionally well in humid lakeside environments and delivers reliable water quality without the taste or discoloration that worn galvanized pipes produce. We'll help you weigh copper against PEX so you can make the right call for your home and budget.

Learn More

Galvanized Pipe Replacement

Many of Lakeway's original homes were built with galvanized steel supply lines that are long past their service life. As these pipes corrode from the inside out, they restrict water flow, shed rust into the water supply, and eventually crack or fail entirely. Replacing galvanized lines is one of the highest-impact plumbing upgrades an older Lakeway home can get, and our team handles the process efficiently with minimal disruption to your daily routine.

Learn More

Leak Detection Before Repiping

Before we scope a full repipe, it's important to understand exactly where your system is failing and why. Our leak detection process uses professional-grade equipment to locate active leaks behind walls, under slabs, and in areas that aren't visible to the naked eye. In Lakeway homes where humidity can mask moisture damage for months, catching every problem upfront ensures your repipe addresses the full picture — not just the symptoms.

Learn More

Slab Leak Repair and Repiping

Slab leaks are a genuine concern in Lakeway, particularly in homes built before the 1990s where supply lines were routed directly through or beneath the concrete foundation. The combination of aging pipe materials and Lake Travis-area soil movement can create conditions where slab leaks develop and go undetected for long periods. We locate slab leaks precisely and determine whether targeted repair or a full repipe is the right path forward for your home.

Learn More

Water Heater Integration During Repipe

A whole house repipe is the ideal time to evaluate your water heater connections and, if needed, upgrade to a new unit that's compatible with your new piping system. Older water heaters paired with corroded supply lines often struggle with sediment buildup and inefficient heating, issues that are especially common in Lakeway homes on hard water. We coordinate water heater replacement alongside repiping work to streamline the process and get everything done in one visit when possible.

Learn More

Emergency Repiping Service

A burst pipe or sudden catastrophic failure in an older Lakeway home can cause serious water damage fast, especially in homes with wood framing that's already absorbed years of lake humidity. Our team offers emergency repiping and pipe repair services when waiting simply isn't an option. We respond quickly, assess the damage honestly, and get your water supply restored as efficiently as possible.

Learn More

Partial Repiping and Targeted Pipe Replacement

Not every Lakeway home needs a full repipe. In some cases, a specific section of failing pipe — a deteriorated run in the master bath, corroded lines feeding the kitchen, or an isolated stretch of galvanized supply — can be replaced without touching the rest of the system. We assess your plumbing honestly and only recommend the scope of work that actually makes sense for your home's condition and age.

Learn More

Water Pressure Restoration

Low water pressure is one of the most common complaints we hear from homeowners in Lakeway's older neighborhoods. Years of mineral scale accumulation inside aging pipes gradually choke water flow until even a simple shower feels inadequate. Repiping with modern materials eliminates the buildup at the source and restores full, consistent pressure to every fixture in the house — something no water pressure booster pump alone can permanently fix.

Learn More

Pre-Sale Plumbing Inspection and Repipe

Lakeway's real estate market moves quickly, and buyers at this price point are thorough with their inspections. Aging or failing pipes often surface during home inspections and can derail a sale or force last-minute price concessions. A proactive repipe before listing gives sellers the confidence to stand behind their home's condition and often pays for itself in the strength of the final offer.

Learn More

Post-Repipe Plumbing Repairs and Fixture Updates

After a whole house repipe, some homeowners take the opportunity to update aging fixtures, faucets, and shutoff valves that were already showing wear. We coordinate these additional plumbing repairs and upgrades as part of the same project so you're not scheduling multiple return visits. It's an efficient way to get your entire plumbing system up to current standards while everything is already open and accessible.

We Know Lakeway Homes

Lakeway is a community where the housing stock tells a real story. The original homes built close to Lake Travis in the 1970s and early 1980s were constructed quickly to meet demand from buyers who wanted lake access, and the plumbing materials used back then — galvanized steel, early copper, and original plastic supply lines — are now showing their age in a serious way. The humidity that comes with living near a large body of water speeds up corrosion on the outside of pipes and fixtures, while hard water does the same damage from the inside out. When we work in these neighborhoods, we know to look carefully at supply line conditions, shutoff valve function, and any signs of long-term moisture intrusion before making any recommendations.

The newer construction in Lakeway tells a different story but comes with its own considerations. Homes built in the 2000s and 2010s are starting to hit the age where original water heaters and supply connections need attention, and some of the faster-built subdivisions used materials that don't hold up as well over time. We've worked throughout this community long enough to know the difference between a home that just needs targeted repairs and one where a full repipe is the smarter investment. That experience matters when you're making a decision this significant about a home you plan to stay in for the long term.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my older Lakeway home needs a full repipe or just targeted repairs?
The answer depends on what your pipes are made of, how old they are, and the pattern of problems you've been experiencing. If your home was built before 1990 and still has original galvanized steel supply lines, a full repipe is almost always the smarter long-term move — galvanized pipes corrode from the inside out and can't be fully restored with repairs. If you've had two or more leaks in different locations within a few years, that's a strong signal that the pipe system as a whole is failing, not just one spot. We'll inspect your system and give you an honest assessment of whether targeted repair or a full repipe makes more financial sense for your specific home.
How long does a whole house repipe take in a typical Lakeway home?
Most whole house repipes in Lakeway take between two and four days depending on the size of the home, the complexity of the existing pipe layout, and how accessible the walls and crawl spaces are. Older homes with more irregular framing or original plaster walls can take a bit longer than newer construction. We'll give you a realistic timeline during the estimate process so you can plan accordingly. In most cases, water is restored to the home each evening so you're not without running water overnight.
What pipe material is best for a Lakeway home — PEX or copper?
Both are excellent long-term options, and the right choice depends on your priorities and your home's specific conditions. PEX is highly flexible, resistant to the mineral scaling caused by Lakeway's hard water, and generally more cost-effective for larger homes. Copper is extremely durable, has a long track record, and is a strong choice for homeowners who want a traditional material with proven longevity. One consideration in Lakeway specifically is that the humidity near Lake Travis can accelerate exterior corrosion on copper fittings over time if they're not properly protected — something we account for in how we route and insulate the new lines. We'll walk you through both options so you can make an informed decision.
How much does a whole house repipe cost in Lakeway?
Whole house repiping costs in Lakeway typically range from $8,000 to $20,000 or more depending on the square footage of the home, the number of fixtures and bathrooms, the pipe material selected, and the accessibility of the existing system. Larger homes on Lake Travis with multiple bathrooms and complex plumbing layouts will fall toward the higher end of that range. We provide detailed, itemized estimates before any work begins so there are no surprises. Financing is also available if you'd like to spread the cost over time.
Will repiping my home improve my water pressure?
In almost every case, yes — significantly. The most common cause of gradually worsening water pressure in Lakeway's older homes is mineral scale and corrosion buildup inside aging galvanized pipes, which slowly constricts the interior diameter until flow is severely restricted. Replacing those pipes with new PEX or copper lines eliminates that restriction entirely and restores full, consistent pressure to every fixture in the house. Homeowners who repipe typically notice the difference immediately after the job is complete.
Does a whole house repipe require opening up all my walls?
Some wall access is necessary in most repiping projects, but our approach focuses on minimizing disruption wherever possible. We identify the most efficient routing paths for new supply lines and make targeted openings rather than tearing out entire sections of drywall. After the repipe is complete, we patch and restore the areas that were opened. The extent of wall work depends on your home's layout and the complexity of the existing pipe routing — we walk you through what to expect during the estimate so there are no surprises about the scope of the project.
