About Our HVAC Services in Lakeway

Lakeway is a community that's been around long enough to have some real character — and some real HVAC headaches to match. Those 1970s and 80s homes near the lake were built in an era of much less efficient equipment, and many of them are still running systems that have outlived their useful life. High humidity off Lake Travis accelerates coil corrosion, strains ductwork seals, and makes poorly maintained systems work twice as hard. Whether you're dealing with a system that's struggling to keep up or one that's finally called it quits, we know what these homes need.

Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air works across all of Lakeway, from the established waterfront neighborhoods to the newer developments along 620. We service all major brands, handle full replacements on aging systems, and offer maintenance plans designed to keep your equipment running efficiently through the long Texas heat season. We're not here for a one-time visit — we want to be the HVAC company you call for the next 20 years.

HVAC Services We Provide in Lakeway

AC Repair

When your air conditioner stops cooling or starts making noise, Lakeway's summer heat means you can't wait long for a fix. We diagnose the root cause — whether it's a refrigerant issue, a failing capacitor, or coil corrosion from the lake humidity — and get your system back up and running fast. No guesswork, no upselling parts you don't need.

AC Installation

Putting a new AC system in a Lakeway home requires more thought than just swapping out the old unit. Older homes often have undersized ductwork or outdated electrical setups that need addressing before a new system goes in. We size the equipment correctly for your home's layout and make sure everything is installed for long-term performance in this humidity-heavy climate.

AC Replacement

If your system is 12 or more years old and you're calling for repairs more often than you'd like, it's worth having an honest conversation about replacement. We help Lakeway homeowners weigh the real cost of keeping an aging system alive versus investing in modern, energy-efficient equipment that can handle the demands of lake country summers. We provide free estimates so you can make the call with confidence.

HVAC Maintenance

Preventive maintenance is especially important in Lakeway, where humidity off Lake Travis can quietly do damage to coils, drain lines, and ductwork between seasons. A seasonal tune-up catches small issues before they become expensive failures in the middle of July. Our maintenance visits include a full system inspection, cleaning, and a straight-up report on what we find.

HVAC Repair

HVAC problems rarely announce themselves at a convenient time, and in Lakeway that often means a breakdown during peak summer heat or an unexpectedly cold Hill Country night. Our technicians are experienced with all major systems and brands, including the older units still common in Lakeway's established neighborhoods. We come prepared to diagnose and fix on the first visit whenever possible.

HVAC Replacement

A full system replacement is a big decision, and we don't take it lightly. For Lakeway homes — especially those with original equipment from the 80s or 90s — a replacement can mean dramatically lower energy bills and far better humidity control indoors. We walk you through your options clearly, explain the tradeoffs, and never push you toward a replacement if a repair makes more sense.

Learn More

Mini Splits

Mini split systems are a great fit for Lakeway properties with additions, detached guest spaces, or rooms that the central system just can't seem to keep comfortable. They're also popular for lakefront homes where running new ductwork isn't practical. We size and install ductless systems that give you precise zone control without the energy waste of overcooling the rest of your home.

Learn More

Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps are an increasingly smart choice for Lakeway homeowners who want an efficient, all-in-one solution for both cooling and heating. They perform especially well in Central Texas's mild winters, and modern systems handle summer heat far better than earlier generations did. We help you determine whether a heat pump is the right fit for your home and handle the full installation.

Learn More

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps have unique components that require technicians who actually understand how the refrigeration cycle works in both heating and cooling modes. If your heat pump is losing efficiency, short cycling, or not switching modes correctly, we can get to the bottom of it. Lakeway homes near the lake can see accelerated wear on outdoor units from moisture and debris, and we know what to look for.

Learn More

Furnace Repair

Lakeway winters are generally mild, but when a cold front rolls in off the Hill Country, a furnace that won't fire is a real problem. Many of the older homes in Lakeway have original gas furnaces that haven't been serviced in years. We inspect, diagnose, and repair all types of heating systems, and we'll tell you honestly if a repair is worthwhile or if replacement makes more sense.

Learn More

Commercial AC Repair

Lakeway has a growing commercial corridor, and businesses along 620 and RM 2222 need reliable cooling to keep employees comfortable and customers coming back. We service commercial HVAC and AC systems with the same upfront pricing and honest diagnostics we bring to residential work. Downtime is expensive, so we prioritize fast turnaround on commercial calls.

We Know Lakeway Homes

Lakeway has one of the most varied housing stocks in the Austin area. You've got mid-century homes sitting right on the water that were built decades before energy efficiency was part of the conversation, and you've got newer construction in the hills that comes with its own set of quirks. The older homes often have original ductwork that was never sealed properly, undersized returns, and HVAC equipment that's been patched together over the years. Lake proximity adds another layer: the moisture in the air here is genuinely harder on outdoor condenser units, evaporator coils, and duct connections than what you'd see in a drier part of the Austin metro.

We've worked in Lakeway long enough to know what to expect when we walk into one of these homes. We know which neighborhoods have the older slab construction, where the lake breeze is going to accelerate coil corrosion, and where newer builds sometimes have zoning or ductwork issues that weren't caught during construction. That kind of familiarity means we spend less time guessing and more time actually solving your problem. Cold is on the Right is the kind of company Lakeway homeowners come back to year after year — and that's exactly what we're here for.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does lake humidity near Lake Travis affect my HVAC system?
Living close to Lake Travis means your HVAC system is working in a more moisture-rich environment than homes farther inland. That humidity accelerates corrosion on outdoor condenser coils and refrigerant lines, can cause drain lines to clog more frequently, and puts extra strain on the system's ability to dehumidify your indoor air. Over time, this shortens equipment lifespan if the system isn't maintained regularly. Annual tune-ups and periodic coil cleaning are especially important for Lakeway homes near the water.
My Lakeway home was built in the 1980s. Should I replace my HVAC system?
If your system is original to an 80s-era home, it's almost certainly past the point where repairs make good financial sense. Systems from that era are significantly less efficient than modern equipment, and replacement parts are increasingly hard to source. A new system can reduce your energy bills by 30 to 40 percent in some cases, and it will also do a much better job managing indoor humidity. That said, we'll always give you an honest assessment rather than pushing replacement when a repair is the smarter call.
How often should I have my HVAC system serviced in Lakeway?
Twice a year is the standard recommendation — once in spring before cooling season and once in fall before heating season. In Lakeway specifically, the spring visit is especially important because the combination of lake humidity and pollen can do real damage to coils and drain lines over the winter. Skipping maintenance might seem like a cost savings, but it typically leads to more expensive repairs and shorter equipment life. A tune-up also gives us the chance to catch refrigerant issues, electrical wear, and airflow problems before they turn into emergencies.
What's the difference between repairing and replacing my AC, and how do I decide?
The general rule is that if a repair costs more than about 30 percent of what a replacement would cost, and your system is 10 or more years old, replacement is usually the better long-term investment. For Lakeway homeowners with older systems that have already had multiple repairs, continuing to patch an inefficient unit often costs more over three to five years than buying a new one would. We provide free estimates and a free second opinion on replacements so you have the information you need to make the right call for your budget.
Are mini split systems a good option for Lakeway homes?
They can be an excellent choice, especially for Lakeway properties with rooms over garages, detached casitas, screened porches, or additions that the central system struggles to reach. Mini splits don't require ductwork, which makes them practical for older homes where adding new ducts isn't feasible. They're also very efficient and give you precise zone control. The upfront cost is higher than a window unit, but the energy savings and improved comfort typically make them worthwhile within a few years.
Do you offer emergency HVAC service in Lakeway?
Yes, we offer emergency HVAC service for situations where you're without cooling or heating and can't wait for a scheduled appointment. Lakeway summers are serious — losing AC during a heat wave isn't just uncomfortable, it can be a health concern, especially for older residents or families with young children. Call us and we'll get a technician out to you as quickly as possible, diagnose the issue, and give you a clear path to getting your system back up and running.
