About Our HVAC Services in Leander

Leander has exploded with new neighborhoods and developments over the past several years, and that means thousands of homeowners are living with brand-new HVAC systems they've never managed before. New doesn't always mean problem-free. Builders install systems quickly to meet demand, and improper sizing, inadequate ductwork, and factory settings that don't account for Texas summers can leave you sweating even in a house that's only a few years old. Cold is on the Right works with homeowners across Leander to diagnose those issues and get systems performing the way they should.

We also understand that for many Leander residents, this is the first home they've owned — and the first HVAC system they're responsible for maintaining. We take the time to walk you through what we find, what your options are, and what regular maintenance actually looks like so you're not caught off guard when the next Texas summer rolls in. From Cedar Park Road to the neighborhoods near 183A, we know this community and we're here for the long haul.

When your air conditioner stops cooling or starts acting up in the middle of a Leander summer, you need fast answers. We diagnose the root cause quickly — whether it's a refrigerant issue, a failing capacitor, or a clogged system — and get you back to comfortable without unnecessary upsells. Many Leander homes have AC units that were rushed through new construction installs, so we know what to look for.

AC Installation

Installing a new air conditioning system in a Leander home requires more than just swapping out equipment. Proper load calculations, duct compatibility, and system sizing all matter — especially in newer homes where builder-grade installs may not be optimized for your square footage. We size and install energy-efficient units that keep your home comfortable and your energy bills in check.

AC Replacement

If your current system is struggling, short-cycling, or racking up repair bills, it may be time to replace it. We'll give you a clear comparison of repair versus replacement costs so you can make a confident decision. For Leander homeowners, upgrading to a higher-SEER unit can make a noticeable difference in both comfort and monthly energy costs during those long Central Texas summers.

Mini Splits

Mini split systems are a great solution for bonus rooms, home offices, garages, or additions that aren't tied into your main ductwork — all increasingly common in Leander's growing homes. We Know Leander Homes

Most of the homes in Leander were built within the last 10 to 15 years, which means the HVAC systems inside them are relatively young but not always trouble-free. Builder-grade equipment installed at high volume can come with shortcuts: undersized units, ductwork that wasn't optimized for the floor plan, or systems that were never properly commissioned after installation. We see these issues regularly in subdivisions throughout Leander, and we know how to identify them and fix them the right way.

We also know that a big chunk of Leander's homeowners are buying their first house and taking on HVAC responsibility for the first time. There's a lot to learn, and a lot of contractors who won't bother explaining it. We do things differently. When we service a home in Leander, we make sure the homeowner understands what we found, what we did, and what to watch for going forward. That kind of knowledge makes a real difference when the next Texas summer arrives and you need your system to perform.

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

My Leander home is only a few years old. Why is my HVAC system already having problems?
New construction doesn't always mean high quality. Builders in fast-growing areas like Leander often install HVAC systems quickly and at volume, which can result in undersized equipment, ductwork that wasn't properly balanced, or systems that were never fully commissioned after installation. Common early issues include uneven cooling, systems that run constantly, and higher-than-expected energy bills. The good news is that many of these problems are correctable without a full replacement. A thorough diagnostic visit can identify what's off and give you a clear path forward.
How often should I have my HVAC system serviced in Leander?
Most HVAC manufacturers and industry professionals recommend twice-yearly maintenance — once in the spring before cooling season and once in the fall before heating season. In Central Texas, the cooling season is long and demanding, so that spring tune-up is especially important. During a maintenance visit, a technician will clean the coils, check refrigerant levels, inspect electrical connections, and verify that the system is operating efficiently. Staying on schedule with maintenance also helps protect any remaining manufacturer warranty on your equipment.
How do I know if my HVAC system needs to be repaired or fully replaced?
A good rule of thumb is the 5,000 rule: multiply the age of the unit by the estimated repair cost. If that number exceeds $5,000, replacement often makes more financial sense. You should also consider system age — most residential HVAC units have a lifespan of 15 to 20 years. If your system is approaching that range and experiencing repeated failures, replacement is usually the smarter long-term investment. We always provide a clear cost comparison so you can make the decision that fits your situation and budget.
What size HVAC system do I need for my Leander home?
Sizing an HVAC system correctly requires a Manual J load calculation, which accounts for your home's square footage, ceiling height, insulation levels, window area, and local climate data. In Leander, the hot summers mean your cooling load is particularly important to get right. An oversized system will short-cycle, leaving your home humid and uncomfortable while wearing out components faster than normal. An undersized system will run constantly and still struggle to keep up on hot days. We always size systems based on a proper assessment of your specific home — not just square footage alone.
What should I do if my AC stops working on a hot day in Leander?
First, check your thermostat settings and make sure it's set to cool and not just fan mode. Then check your air filter — a severely clogged filter can cause the system to shut down as a protective measure. Check your circuit breaker panel to see if the HVAC breaker has tripped. If none of those quick checks resolve the issue, give us a call. We offer emergency HVAC service and will prioritize no-cool situations, especially during periods of extreme heat. In the meantime, close blinds and curtains to reduce heat gain and move to the lowest level of the home if temperatures rise indoors.
Does Cold is on the Right service commercial properties in Leander?
Yes. In addition to residential service, we handle commercial AC repair for businesses in Leander and the surrounding area. Commercial systems have different demands than residential equipment, and our technicians are experienced with the equipment types and service expectations that commercial customers need. Whether you manage a small office, a retail space, or another commercial property, contact us to discuss what we can do for your building.
