Water Filters & Filtration in Westlake, TX

Westlake homes deserve water as refined as the neighborhood itself.

Many of the established homes in Westlake were built in an era when municipal water quality and plumbing standards were very different from today. Aging galvanized or copper pipes, combined with Austin's notoriously hard water, can leave your family drinking and bathing in water that carries sediment, chlorine, and mineral buildup. Cold is on the Right installs and services whole-home and point-of-use filtration systems designed to work with the specific plumbing found in Westlake's mature luxury homes.

About Our Water Filters & Filtration in Westlake

Westlake's housing stock tells a story — beautifully maintained homes built primarily between the 1970s and 1990s, surrounded by mature Hill Country oaks and fed by plumbing that has been working hard for decades. Original copper and galvanized pipes can leach trace minerals and particulates into your water supply, and Austin-area water is already among the hardest in Texas. A properly matched filtration system doesn't just improve taste — it protects your fixtures, your appliances, and anyone drinking from the tap.

Cold is on the Right has worked inside hundreds of Westlake homes and understands the unique plumbing configurations common to the area's older construction. We assess your existing pipe materials, your water source, and your household's usage before recommending a system — not because it's the most expensive option, but because it's the right fit. From under-sink reverse osmosis units to whole-home carbon filtration, we size and install systems that integrate cleanly with your home's plumbing without disruptive retrofits.

Water Filtration Services We Provide in Westlake

Whole-Home Water Filtration Systems

A whole-home system filters water at the point it enters your house, protecting every faucet, appliance, and showerhead from sediment, chlorine, and minerals. For Westlake homes with older pipe runs, this is often the most effective way to guard aging plumbing from further mineral scale buildup. We evaluate your home's inlet configuration and recommend a filter rated for your household's flow demands.

Under-Sink Reverse Osmosis Systems

Reverse osmosis delivers exceptionally clean drinking water by forcing water through a semi-permeable membrane that removes contaminants conventional filters miss. These compact systems install neatly under your kitchen sink — ideal for Westlake kitchens where aesthetics matter as much as performance. We handle the full installation, including the dedicated faucet, storage tank, and connection to your existing supply lines.

Sediment Filters

Sediment filters are the first line of defense in any filtration setup, capturing sand, rust flakes, and particulate matter before they reach your fixtures and appliances. In Westlake homes with original galvanized supply lines, sediment filtration is especially important because corroding pipe walls can introduce debris that accumulates inside water heaters and faucet aerators. We size sediment pre-filters to match your water pressure and pipe diameter so flow rate is never compromised.

Carbon Block & Activated Carbon Filters

Activated carbon filters are highly effective at removing chlorine, chloramines, and volatile organic compounds that affect the taste and odor of Austin municipal water. Many Westlake homeowners notice a significant difference in drinking water and even shower experience after installing a whole-home carbon system. We select carbon media and housing rated for your water chemistry and replace filter cartridges on a schedule that keeps performance consistent.

Water Softeners

Central Texas water hardness is among the highest in the nation, and Westlake homes bear the evidence in scale-coated water heaters, spotted fixtures, and shortened appliance lifespans. A water softener works alongside your filtration system to remove calcium and magnesium ions before they cause damage. We install and service water softening systems that complement your existing plumbing without requiring major modifications.

UV Purification Systems

UV purification uses ultraviolet light to neutralize bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that pass through standard mechanical or carbon filters. While Westlake draws from Austin's municipal supply, older distribution infrastructure can introduce biological concerns that UV treatment eliminates without chemicals or pressure loss. We install UV systems as a final stage in multi-barrier filtration setups for homeowners who want the highest level of water safety.

Filter Cartridge Replacement & Maintenance

A water filtration system that hasn't been serviced on schedule can actually become a source of contamination rather than protection. We offer routine cartridge replacement and system inspections for all major filter brands, including systems we didn't originally install. Westlake homeowners who want a reliable maintenance partner can count on us to keep their systems performing at spec year-round.

Water Quality Testing

Before recommending any filtration solution, we test your water to identify exactly what's in it — not just guess based on your zip code. Westlake's older homes may have plumbing that introduces concerns beyond what the municipal supply contains, and testing gives us a precise baseline. Results inform the right filter type, media, and micron rating for your specific situation.

Point-of-Entry vs. Point-of-Use Consultation

Choosing between filtering all the water entering your home versus filtering only at specific fixtures is a meaningful decision with cost and performance implications. We walk Westlake homeowners through both approaches honestly, factoring in their home's pipe layout, budget, and water quality goals. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, and we won't pretend there is.

Filtration System Upgrades

If your current filtration system is more than seven to ten years old, it may no longer meet current performance standards or your household's needs. We assess older systems already installed in Westlake homes and recommend targeted upgrades — whether that's a higher-capacity pre-filter, an added RO stage, or a full system replacement. Upgrades are priced transparently with no pressure to overbuy.

Filtration Integration with Water Heater Systems

Unfiltered hard water is one of the leading causes of premature water heater failure, and Westlake homes with older tank units are particularly vulnerable to heavy scale accumulation inside the tank and on heating elements. Installing filtration upstream of your water heater can meaningfully extend its service life and improve efficiency. We coordinate filtration and water heater service to make sure both systems work together the way they should.

We Know Westlake Homes

Westlake is defined by its mature, established character — custom homes tucked into wooded lots along the Barton Creek corridor and Lake Austin, most of them built between the mid-1970s and early 1990s. Those decades produced beautifully constructed homes, but the plumbing inside them was never designed to handle the mineral load Austin-area water delivers day after day for fifty-plus years. We've crawled under enough Westlake slabs and opened enough utility closets to know exactly what we're going to find before we get there.

The Hill Country terrain, limestone aquifer, and proximity to Lake Austin create a specific water chemistry profile that accelerates scaling in older pipe runs and shortens the service life of water-using equipment. Homeowners in this neighborhood tend to have high expectations for how their systems perform, and rightfully so. Cold is on the Right brings the technical depth to work with older premium plumbing without guesswork, and we'll tell you honestly what your home needs rather than oversell a solution that doesn't fit.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the water in Westlake, and does it really need to be filtered?
Austin-area water is classified as very hard, typically measuring between 180 and 300 parts per million of dissolved calcium and magnesium, which puts it in the hardest tier of water systems in Texas. For Westlake homes specifically, that hardness compounds over time inside older pipe runs, water heaters, and appliances in ways that shorten equipment life and affect water taste and clarity. Filtration alone addresses some concerns like taste and sediment, while a combination of filtration and water softening handles the full mineral load. Most Westlake homeowners who have gone through a water quality test are genuinely surprised by what comes back. It's worth knowing what's actually in your water before deciding what level of treatment makes sense.
What type of water filtration system works best for an older home in Westlake?
For homes built in the 1970s through 1990s, we generally recommend starting with a whole-home sediment pre-filter to capture particulate from aging pipes, followed by an activated carbon stage for chlorine and taste issues. If drinking water quality is the primary concern, adding an under-sink reverse osmosis system at the kitchen tap delivers the highest level of purity without requiring a full whole-home RO installation. The right configuration depends on your pipe materials, water test results, and how much water your household uses daily. We assess each home individually rather than defaulting to a standard package, because older homes often have quirks that a cookie-cutter approach won't account for.
Is my Westlake home's water safe to drink without a filter?
Austin Water consistently meets federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards, so municipal water in Westlake is legally safe. That said, safety compliance and optimal quality aren't the same thing. Chlorine and chloramines used for disinfection are present at levels that many people find affect the taste and odor of their tap water. In older Westlake homes, aging pipes can introduce low levels of copper, rust particles, or sediment after the water leaves the municipal system. Whether filtration is necessary depends on your personal health priorities, your pipe materials, and how you're using the water. A water quality test takes the guesswork out of that decision entirely.
