About Our Furnace Repair Services in Westlake

Westlake homeowners have high expectations, and they should. The homes here were built with quality in mind, and the HVAC systems that came with them were often premium units from brands that still command respect today. At Cold is on the Right, our licensed technicians have hands-on experience with the older Carrier, Lennox, and Trane systems that are common in this part of Austin. We inspect every component — the burner assembly, heat exchanger, blower motor, ignition system, and electrical connections — and we give you a clear, honest picture of what's going on before any work begins.

We also understand that Westlake homeowners aren't looking for a quick patch job. You want the repair done correctly the first time, with technicians who actually understand your system. That's what we bring to every service call. Whether your furnace is struggling to keep up on a cold Hill Country night or showing signs of wear after years of heavy use, Cold is on the Right has the training and experience to handle it properly.

Furnace Repair Services We Provide in Westlake

Furnace Diagnostic and Inspection

When your furnace isn't performing the way it should, the first step is a thorough diagnostic. Our technicians examine every component of your system, identifying the root cause rather than just treating symptoms. For Westlake homes with older furnaces, a proper inspection often reveals issues that have been quietly building for years.

Heat Exchanger Repair

A cracked or failing heat exchanger is one of the most serious furnace problems a homeowner can face, particularly in older systems. Furnaces from the 1980s and early 1990s are especially prone to heat exchanger fatigue after years of thermal cycling. We inspect, test, and repair heat exchangers thoroughly, with safety as the top priority.

Ignition System Repair

Older furnaces in Westlake homes often use standing pilot lights or early-generation electronic ignition systems that wear out over time. A furnace that won't ignite or struggles to stay lit is a common call we receive in this neighborhood. We service both older and newer ignition components and restore reliable startup performance.

Blower Motor Repair and Replacement

The blower motor is responsible for circulating warm air through your home's ductwork, and in a home with a furnace that's 20 or 30 years old, the motor may be showing its age. Reduced airflow, strange noises, or a furnace that runs but doesn't heat effectively are all signs the blower needs attention. We repair or replace blower motors on all major furnace brands.

Thermostat and Control Board Service

Older Westlake homes sometimes have thermostats and control boards that haven't kept pace with the rest of a home renovation. A faulty control board or miscalibrated thermostat can make even a capable furnace behave erratically. We diagnose control system issues accurately and recommend upgrades only when they genuinely improve performance.

Gas Valve and Burner Assembly Repair

Gas furnaces depend on properly functioning valves and burner assemblies to heat safely and efficiently. After years of use, these components can corrode, clog, or fail in ways that affect both performance and safety. Our technicians are trained to service gas components carefully and correctly, following all safety protocols on every job.

Ductwork Inspection and Sealing

Westlake's larger luxury homes often have extensive duct systems, and leaky or poorly sealed ducts can make even a well-functioning furnace fall short. We inspect ductwork for gaps, disconnected sections, and insulation failures that are common in homes of this age. Sealing ducts improves comfort and reduces the strain on your furnace.

Heating System Tune-Up

A seasonal tune-up keeps your furnace operating at peak efficiency and catches small problems before they become expensive repairs. For older systems common throughout Westlake, regular maintenance is especially important because wear accumulates faster in aging components. We clean, calibrate, and test your system so it's ready when temperatures drop.

We Know Westlake Homes

Westlake is one of the most established communities in the greater Austin area, with a housing stock that's defined by large custom homes built between the 1970s and 1990s. These homes were constructed with quality materials and often feature complex HVAC configurations, multiple zones, and older premium furnace brands that were installed when the homes were new. After 30 to 40 years of service, those systems carry specific failure patterns: cracked heat exchangers, worn blower motors, aging gas valves, and control boards that were built long before modern diagnostics made troubleshooting straightforward.

The Hill Country terrain and the mature tree canopy throughout Westlake also play a role. Homes here tend to be well-insulated and shaded, which can mask declining furnace performance until the coldest nights expose it. We've worked in enough Westlake homes to know what to look for in these systems, how to diagnose them accurately, and how to give homeowners a straight answer about what their furnace actually needs. When you call Cold is on the Right, you're getting technicians who understand the character of this neighborhood and the demands that come with it.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does furnace repair typically cost in Westlake?
Furnace repair costs in Westlake vary depending on what component has failed and how old your system is. Minor repairs like igniter replacements or thermostat fixes often run between $150 and $400. More involved repairs, such as a blower motor replacement or control board issue, typically fall in the $400 to $900 range. Heat exchanger repairs or replacements are among the most expensive and can run $1,000 or more, which is often the point where replacement becomes worth considering for a furnace that's already 25 or 30 years old. We always provide upfront pricing before any work begins so there are no surprises.
My Westlake home has an older furnace from the 1980s — is it worth repairing?
It depends on the specific failure and the overall condition of the system. A furnace from the 1980s has likely served your home well, but components like heat exchangers, blower motors, and gas valves do wear out over time. If the repair cost is less than half the price of a comparable replacement system and the rest of the furnace is in reasonable shape, repair often makes sense. If you're facing a major component failure on a unit that's already had several repairs, replacement is usually the smarter long-term investment. We'll give you an honest assessment and walk you through both options without any pressure.
Can I stay in my home during a furnace repair?
In most cases, yes. Standard furnace repairs don't require you to vacate your home, and our technicians work efficiently to minimize disruption. If we're working on a gas component or testing combustion systems, we may need good ventilation in the mechanical room, but that's typically easy to manage. The exception would be if we find a confirmed heat exchanger crack or a gas leak, in which case we'd recommend you avoid using the furnace until the repair is complete. We communicate clearly throughout the process so you always know what's happening and what's expected.
