About Our Heating Repairs in Westlake

Westlake is one of the most established communities in the Austin area, and with that comes a housing stock that carries real character — and real age. The luxury homes lining the hills and canyon lots west of Loop 360 were often built with premium heating systems that were top-of-the-line at the time. Decades later, those systems need technicians who understand older equipment, can source components for aging units, and know how to work within the original ductwork configurations these homes were designed around. That's exactly the kind of work we do at Cold is on the Right.

We've repaired heating systems throughout Westlake's neighborhoods and understand what typically fails in homes of this era — cracked heat exchangers in older furnaces, worn blower motors, refrigerant issues in aging heat pumps, and control board failures in systems that predate current digital technology. We don't push replacements when a repair will hold. And when replacement is the right call, we tell you honestly and walk you through your options without pressure. Westlake homeowners have high expectations, and we're here to meet them.

Heating Repairs We Provide in Westlake

Furnace Repair

When your furnace fails in the middle of a cold snap, you need a tech who knows older gas and electric systems inside and out. We diagnose and repair furnaces of all ages and brands, including the high-end models commonly found in Westlake's established homes. From ignition failures to cracked heat exchangers, we handle it all.

Furnace Replacement

Sometimes a furnace has simply reached the end of its serviceable life, and that's especially common in Westlake homes where original equipment has been running for 25 to 40 years. We help you select a replacement that fits your home's existing infrastructure and efficiency goals, with honest guidance on what makes sense for your situation.

Learn More

Furnace Installation

Whether you're installing a furnace in a newly renovated space or upgrading after a replacement, proper installation makes all the difference in how efficiently and reliably your system runs. We size and install furnaces correctly the first time, accounting for your home's square footage, duct layout, and insulation levels.

Learn More

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps are common in Westlake homes and can lose efficiency or fail entirely as they age, especially systems that have been running for 15 or more years. We diagnose refrigerant issues, compressor problems, reversing valve failures, and more, restoring your heat pump to reliable operation without unnecessary part replacements.

Learn More

HVAC System Repair

Your heating and cooling system work together, and a problem on one side often affects the other. We repair full HVAC systems, addressing issues with air handlers, coils, thermostats, electrical controls, and the connections between components that keep everything running as a unit.

Learn More

Thermostat Repair and Replacement

A malfunctioning thermostat can mimic a heating system failure — causing short cycling, temperature swings, or a system that won't respond at all. We test and replace thermostats, including upgrading older analog units to modern programmable or smart thermostats that give you better control over your comfort and energy use.

Blower Motor Repair

The blower motor is responsible for pushing heated air through your duct system, and when it starts failing you'll notice weak airflow, unusual noises, or rooms that won't warm up. In older Westlake homes, blower motors that have been running for decades are a common repair — we replace worn bearings, capacitors, and motors to restore proper airflow.

Heat Exchanger Inspection and Repair

A cracked heat exchanger is one of the most serious furnace problems a homeowner can face, as it allows combustion gases to mix with circulated air. This failure is especially relevant in older furnaces found throughout Westlake, and we take every inspection seriously, providing a clear assessment of whether repair or replacement is the safer path forward.

Ductwork Repair and Sealing

Aging duct systems in Westlake's older homes are a frequent culprit behind heating inefficiency — leaks, disconnected runs, and deteriorated insulation all cause heat loss before it ever reaches your rooms. We inspect, repair, and seal ductwork to ensure the heated air your system produces actually gets to where you need it.

Heating System Tune-Up and Preventive Maintenance

Older heating systems need regular maintenance to stay reliable, and in Westlake's Hill Country-adjacent climate, a well-maintained system handles those unexpected cold fronts far better than one that's been neglected. We clean, inspect, and tune your heating equipment each season so small issues don't turn into expensive breakdowns.

Emergency Heating Repairs

When your heat goes out overnight or on a holiday weekend, you shouldn't have to wait it out. Cold is on the Right offers emergency heating repair service for Westlake homeowners who need a fast, qualified response. Call (512) 271-2172 and we'll get someone out to you.

We Know Westlake Homes

The homes that make up Westlake's established neighborhoods were often built during an era of real craftsmanship, and many of them came with HVAC equipment that was genuinely premium for its time. But those systems are now anywhere from 25 to 50 years old, and the failure patterns we see in this part of Austin reflect that reality. Heat exchangers in older gas furnaces, refrigerant leaks in aging heat pumps, and original ductwork that's never been properly sealed are all part of the job when you're working in Westlake.

This community's wooded lots and canyon terrain also create microclimates that put uneven demands on heating systems, with some homes running harder on the north-facing side and others dealing with radiant heat loss through large windows and high ceilings that were popular in the architecture of that era. We've worked on enough Westlake homes to know what to look for before we even open the service panel, and that familiarity means faster, more accurate diagnoses and repairs that actually hold.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a heating repair typically cost in Westlake?
The cost of a heating repair in Westlake depends heavily on what's failing and the age of your system. Simple fixes like a failed capacitor or a thermostat replacement might run $150 to $350, while more involved repairs like a blower motor, control board, or heat exchanger can range from $400 to over $1,000 depending on parts and labor. Older systems sometimes require components that are harder to source, which can add to the cost. We always provide upfront pricing after diagnosing the issue so you know exactly what you're looking at before any work begins.
My Westlake home has a furnace from the 1980s. Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
A furnace from the 1980s is well past its typical 15 to 20 year lifespan, but that doesn't automatically mean replacement is the right move. If the heat exchanger is intact and the repair cost is modest relative to the system's remaining reliability, a repair can buy you another season or two while you plan for replacement. However, if you're looking at a cracked heat exchanger, a failed gas valve, or a repair that costs more than half of what a new system would run, replacement usually makes more financial sense. We'll give you an honest assessment and let you make the call without any pressure.
How long does a heating repair typically take?
Most standard heating repairs can be completed in one to three hours once a technician is on site. Simpler repairs like replacing a capacitor, cleaning a flame sensor, or swapping a thermostat are often done in under an hour. More complex work like replacing a blower motor, control board, or inducer assembly takes longer, and occasionally a part needs to be ordered, which can extend the timeline by a day or two. We try to stock common components for the most frequently serviced systems in the area, which helps us complete more repairs on the same visit. We'll give you a realistic timeline estimate once we've diagnosed the issue.
