About Our Garbage Disposal Services in Spicewood

Spicewood properties come with their own set of plumbing realities. Many homes out here rely on well water, which tends to be harder and mineral-rich compared to municipal supplies. That mineral content builds up inside garbage disposals over time, wearing down grinding components faster and reducing drainage efficiency. Cold is on the Right understands how local water conditions affect disposal performance, and we factor that into every repair and installation recommendation we make.

On top of that, a large number of Spicewood homes use septic systems rather than connecting to a municipal sewer. What goes down your disposal drain ends up in your septic tank, so choosing the right unit and maintaining it properly matters more here than it does in a typical city neighborhood. Our licensed plumbers help Spicewood homeowners select disposals that work with their septic setup, and we make sure every installation is done cleanly and correctly so your system stays healthy for the long haul.

Garbage Disposal Replacement

When repair no longer makes sense, we help you choose and install a replacement unit that fits your kitchen and your plumbing setup. For homes on septic systems, we pay close attention to motor size and grind capacity to make sure the new disposal is appropriate for your waste management situation. We handle the full swap, including disconnecting the old unit and connecting the new one cleanly.

New Garbage Disposal Installation

Installing a disposal for the first time involves more than just dropping a unit under the sink. Our plumbers ensure the drain configuration is correct, the electrical connection is safe, and the mounting assembly is secure. We take extra care on Spicewood properties where kitchen plumbing may have been added or modified by previous owners over the years.

Disposal Jam Clearing

A jammed disposal is one of the most common calls we get, and it is usually fixable without a full replacement. Our plumbers safely clear the obstruction, manually reset the grinding plate, and inspect the unit for underlying damage before calling the job done. We will also walk you through what to avoid putting in the disposal to prevent repeat jams.

Drain Line Cleaning and Clearing

The drain line connecting your disposal to the rest of your plumbing can accumulate grease, food particles, and mineral scale over time. Slow drainage after running the disposal is often a drain line issue rather than a disposal problem. Our team cleans and clears the drain line to restore full flow and prevent backups that could affect your sink or further downstream plumbing.

Leak Detection and Repair Under the Sink

Disposal leaks can come from the sink flange, the side dishwasher inlet, or the bottom of the unit itself, and each source points to a different fix. Left unaddressed, even a slow drip can damage cabinetry and create conditions for mold growth. Our plumbers locate the exact source of the leak and make the appropriate repair, whether that means reseating the flange, replacing a gasket, or installing a new unit entirely.

Septic-Compatible Disposal Assessment

Not every garbage disposal is appropriate for a home on a septic system, and using the wrong unit can accelerate how quickly your tank fills with solids. We assess your current or planned disposal against your septic system's capacity and help you make a choice that protects your tank. This is a service that matters specifically to rural homeowners in areas like Spicewood, Bee Cave, and Dripping Springs.

Hard Water Impact Inspection

Spicewood well water is notoriously high in minerals, and those minerals do real damage to disposal internals over time. We inspect grinding components, drain connections, and seals for mineral-related wear that can shorten a unit's lifespan if not addressed. Catching this early can mean the difference between a simple cleaning and a full replacement.

Dishwasher Inlet Connection Service

Many garbage disposals include a dishwasher drain inlet, and an improperly connected or failing inlet can cause dishwasher backups or foul odors coming from under the sink. Our plumbers inspect and service this connection as part of any disposal repair or replacement job, making sure both appliances drain correctly and without cross-contamination.

Emergency Disposal and Drain Service

A backed-up drain or a disposal that has stopped working right before a gathering is not a problem you want to wait on. Cold is on the Right offers emergency plumbing service to Spicewood residents, and we know that getting out to acreage properties off Highway 71 or Lake Travis Drive requires a team that plans ahead and communicates clearly. We show up when we say we will.

Full Kitchen Drain System Evaluation

Sometimes a disposal problem is really a symptom of a broader drain issue. Our plumbers can evaluate the entire kitchen drain system, from the disposal outlet through the P-trap and into the wall drain, to identify any blockages, incorrect configurations, or aging pipe connections. This is especially relevant in older Spicewood homes where drain lines may have been patched or modified over decades.

We Know Spicewood Homes

Spicewood is a different kind of community. Properties here tend to be spread out, with acreage lots, custom-built homes, and structures that have evolved over decades of ownership. Plumbing in these homes often reflects that history, with a mix of original pipe materials, owner-installed modifications, and systems that were designed for a different era of water use. When we come out to a Spicewood property, we come prepared for that variability rather than assuming everything will match a textbook layout.

The combination of well water and septic systems is the defining plumbing reality for a lot of homeowners out here. Hard water accelerates wear on disposal components and leaves scale deposits that quietly reduce efficiency until something fails. Septic systems mean that what goes down the drain has real consequences for your property. We factor both of those things into every job we do in Spicewood, because generic advice does not hold up when the conditions are this specific.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a garbage disposal if my home is on a septic system?
Yes, but it requires some careful consideration. Garbage disposals add solid food waste to your septic tank, which can increase how often the tank needs to be pumped. For most homes, this means going from every three to five years down to every two to three years with regular disposal use. Choosing a disposal with a lower horsepower motor and being disciplined about what you put down it can help manage the load. We always discuss your septic setup before recommending a unit so you know what to expect going forward.
Does hard well water really affect my garbage disposal?
It does, more than most people realize. Spicewood well water is typically high in calcium and magnesium, and those minerals gradually deposit inside the disposal housing, on the grinding plate, and along the drain line. Over time this reduces grinding efficiency, causes components to corrode faster, and can contribute to slow drainage. Running cold water through the disposal during and after use helps, and periodic cleaning with an ice-and-salt grind can reduce buildup. We check for mineral wear whenever we inspect a disposal on a well-water property.
How much does garbage disposal replacement typically cost in the Spicewood area?
A standard garbage disposal replacement in the Spicewood area generally runs between $250 and $500 installed, depending on the unit you choose and the condition of the existing drain connections. Mid-range units in the half-horsepower to three-quarter-horsepower range are the most common choice for residential kitchens and tend to hold up well. If the sink flange needs to be reseated or the drain line needs attention at the same time, that can add to the total. We give you a firm price before we start so there are no surprises.
What should I avoid putting in my garbage disposal if I have a septic system?
With a septic system, the list of things to keep out of the disposal is longer than it would be on a sewer connection. Avoid fibrous vegetables like celery and artichoke leaves, starchy foods like pasta and potato peels, grease and cooking oils, eggshells, and any bones or hard shells. These either strain the grinding components or introduce materials that do not break down well in a septic tank. Coffee grounds should also stay out of the disposal as they accumulate in drain lines and add fine solids to the tank over time. Keeping the disposal for soft, water-soluble food scraps only goes a long way toward protecting your septic system.
My disposal hums but does not grind. Is it worth repairing or should I replace it?
A humming disposal that does not grind usually means the motor is running but the grinding plate is jammed or the capacitor has failed. If the unit is under about eight years old and in otherwise decent condition, a repair is often the right call and typically costs significantly less than replacement. If the unit is older, especially if it has been on well water for most of its life, replacement may give you better long-term value because the internal components are likely worn. We inspect the unit before making a recommendation and give you the cost of each option so you can make the call.
How long does a garbage disposal installation or repair appointment take?
Most garbage disposal repairs, including jam clearing, seal replacement, or a reset and inspection, take between 30 and 60 minutes. A full unit replacement typically takes 45 minutes to about an hour and a half depending on the condition of the existing plumbing connections under the sink. If we find drain line issues or need to reseat the sink flange, that can add time. We schedule enough time for the job and communicate clearly if we run into anything unexpected, which is especially important for homeowners in Spicewood who may have taken time away from work to be home for the appointment.
