About Our Water Heater Services in Leander

Leander's explosive growth means there are a lot of first-time homeowners navigating systems they've never had to think about before. Water heaters are one of the most overlooked parts of a new home until something goes wrong. At Cold is on the Right, we take the time to walk you through what you have, what condition it's in, and what your best options are — whether that's a repair, a tune-up, or a full replacement with a more efficient unit.

We also work with homeowners in Leander's established neighborhoods where older systems are starting to show their age. High demand from young families, hard Central Texas water that accelerates mineral buildup, and the stress of heavy daily use all take a toll. Our Master Plumbers know what to look for and how to fix it right the first time, so you're not back in the same situation six months later.

Water Heater Repair

If your water heater is making noise, producing lukewarm water, or leaking around the base, it's time to call a pro. Our plumbers diagnose the problem quickly and repair heating elements, valves, thermostats, and connections so your family isn't left without hot water.

Water Heater Replacement

When repairs no longer make financial sense, we help Leander homeowners choose the right replacement unit and handle the full swap from start to finish. We remove the old system, install the new one correctly, and make sure everything meets code before we leave.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are a smart choice for Leander's growing families who run out of hot water before everyone's had a shower. These on-demand systems eliminate the tank entirely, delivering continuous hot water and cutting standby energy loss in the process.

Learn More

Hybrid and Heat Pump Water Heaters

Hybrid electric water heaters are among the most energy-efficient options available and work particularly well in Leander's climate. They draw heat from the surrounding air rather than generating it directly, which significantly reduces energy consumption for households with high hot water demand.

Water Heater Flush and Maintenance

Leander's hard water causes mineral sediment to build up inside water heater tanks faster than many homeowners expect. A regular flush clears that buildup, improves efficiency, reduces strain on heating elements, and can add years to the life of your unit.

Anode Rod Replacement

The anode rod is the part of your water heater that sacrifices itself to prevent the tank from corroding — and it needs to be replaced periodically. In Leander's hard water conditions, anode rods can wear out faster than typical, making this maintenance step especially important for tank-based systems.

Pressure Relief Valve Service

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety component on every water heater. If it's failing or hasn't been tested in years, it poses a real risk. We inspect, test, and replace T&P valves as part of thorough water heater service visits throughout Leander.

Water Heater Expansion Tank Installation

Many Leander homes with closed plumbing systems are required to have a thermal expansion tank installed alongside their water heater. Without one, pressure buildup can shorten the life of the heater and stress your plumbing. We install these correctly and explain why it matters.

Emergency Water Heater Service

A failing water heater doesn't wait for business hours, especially in a house full of kids. Cold is on the Right offers emergency water heater service in Leander so you're not stuck with cold showers or water damage from a leaking tank any longer than necessary.

Plumbing Repairs Related to Water Heater Issues

Sometimes a water heater problem is really a plumbing problem in disguise, including supply line leaks, shutoff valve failures, or corroded fittings at the unit. Our plumbers handle the full picture so nothing gets missed when we're on the job.

We Know Leander Homes

Leander has added thousands of homes over the past decade, and a lot of those new builds came with builder-grade water heaters sized for the minimum rather than the family who'd actually move in. We've seen plenty of new construction units in communities like Bryson, Crystal Falls, and Mason Hills that are already struggling to meet demand a few years in. First-time homeowners often don't realize there's a problem until they're dealing with a cold shower or an unexplained spike in their utility bill.

At the same time, Leander has older pockets of the city where homes have been around long enough for water heaters to be well past their prime. Hard water from this part of Central Texas accelerates sediment buildup and anode rod wear, which shortens tank life and hurts efficiency. We factor in local water quality, household size, and system age when we make recommendations, because a good water heater decision in Leander looks different than it does somewhere else.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do water heaters typically last in Leander?
Most traditional tank water heaters last 8 to 12 years, though that range can shrink in Leander due to the area's hard water. Mineral sediment builds up inside the tank over time, forcing the heating element to work harder and wearing the unit down faster. If your heater is approaching 10 years old, it's worth having a plumber assess its condition. Catching a failing unit before it leaks can save you from dealing with water damage on top of the replacement cost.
What size water heater do I need for my Leander home?
Sizing depends on how many people live in the home and your peak hot water usage. A family of four typically needs at least a 50-gallon tank, while a household of five or six may need 75 gallons or more. Tankless systems are sized differently, based on flow rate and how many fixtures you might run simultaneously. A lot of new construction in Leander was built with builder-grade 40-gallon tanks that work fine for two people but struggle with a family of four. Getting the sizing right from the start saves energy and prevents you from running out of hot water at the worst times.
How does hard water in Leander affect my water heater?
Leander's water has significant mineral content, particularly calcium and magnesium, which settle out of the water as it heats and accumulate as sediment at the bottom of the tank. That layer of sediment acts as insulation between the burner and the water, making your heater work harder to do its job. Over time this reduces efficiency, increases energy costs, causes the rumbling or popping sounds many homeowners notice, and shortens the overall lifespan of the unit. Flushing the tank once a year and replacing the anode rod on schedule are the two best things you can do to offset hard water damage.
Is a tankless water heater worth it for a family in Leander?
For busy households with multiple people showering, doing laundry, and running the dishwasher around the same time, tankless water heaters are often a significant upgrade. They heat water on demand rather than maintaining a stored supply, which means you won't run out mid-shower even if three people have already gone before you. They also last longer than traditional tanks, typically 15 to 20 years with proper maintenance. The upfront cost is higher than a standard tank, but the energy savings and extended lifespan often make up the difference over time. They do require proper gas line sizing or electrical capacity depending on the model, so professional installation is essential.
Do you offer same-day water heater service in Leander?
Yes, we make every effort to schedule same-day service for water heater calls in Leander, particularly for situations involving leaks, complete loss of hot water, or anything that poses a safety concern. Emergency service is available for urgent situations that come up outside of normal business hours. When you call, be ready to describe what you're experiencing so we can prioritize appropriately and send the right technician with the right parts.
What does a water heater replacement cost in Leander?
The total cost of a water heater replacement in Leander typically ranges from around $900 to $2,500 or more depending on the type of unit, the size, fuel source, and the complexity of the installation. A standard 50-gallon gas water heater replacement on the lower end of that range, while tankless or hybrid units carry a higher upfront cost. Factors like adding an expansion tank, upgrading a gas line, or bringing older connections up to code can affect the final number. We always provide upfront pricing before any work begins so you know exactly what to expect with no surprises.
