About Our Furnace Installation in Lakeway

Lakeway's mix of older homes and newer construction creates a wide range of heating needs. Homes built in the 1970s and 80s often have aging ductwork, outdated single-stage furnaces, and equipment that was never designed to last this long. Replacing that old system isn't just about comfort — it's about efficiency, air quality, and making sure your home is actually warm when a cold front rolls in off the lake.

Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air takes the time to assess your specific home before recommending any equipment. We factor in your square footage, insulation, existing ductwork condition, and humidity levels that come with living close to Lake Travis. You get a furnace that fits your home — not just whatever's on a truck.

Furnace Installation Services We Provide in Lakeway

New Furnace Installation

Whether you're replacing a worn-out system in an older Lakeway ranch home or installing heat for the first time in a new build, we handle the full installation from start to finish. We select and install a unit sized correctly for your home's square footage and ductwork layout, so you're not paying to heat air that never reaches your rooms. Proper installation is the single biggest factor in long-term furnace performance.

High-Efficiency Furnace Upgrades

Many Lakeway homes still running original 80s-era furnaces are losing a significant amount of energy every heating season. Upgrading to a 96% AFUE or higher furnace can cut your heating costs noticeably, especially in homes with older duct systems that lose heat before it reaches the living areas. We walk you through the efficiency options that make financial sense for your situation.

Learn More

Furnace Sizing and Load Calculation

An oversized furnace in a Lakeway home short-cycles, wears out early, and leaves the humidity control all wrong — a real problem in a community this close to Lake Travis. We perform proper Manual J load calculations to determine exactly what capacity your home needs before any equipment is selected. Getting the sizing right upfront protects your investment for years to come.

Learn More

Ductwork Inspection and Replacement

In homes built through the 1980s and 90s along the Lakeway corridors, ductwork can be undersized, poorly sealed, or degraded from years of humidity cycling near the lake. Before we install a new furnace, we inspect your duct system to make sure it can actually deliver conditioned air where it needs to go. There's no point in a new furnace connected to a leaking duct system.

Learn More

Gas Line Connection and Safety Check

Gas furnace installation requires a properly sized and inspected gas supply line — something that's especially important in older Lakeway homes where original gas infrastructure hasn't always kept up with updated equipment demands. We inspect, test, and connect your gas supply as part of every furnace installation, and we won't leave until everything passes a full safety check. Your family's safety is non-negotiable.

Learn More

Thermostat Installation and Smart Thermostat Upgrades

A new furnace deserves a thermostat that can actually take full advantage of its capabilities. We install programmable and smart thermostats that let Lakeway homeowners control heating schedules, monitor energy use, and manage temperature remotely from the lake or wherever the weekend takes you. Paired with a new high-efficiency unit, a smart thermostat pays for itself quickly.

Learn More

Heat Exchanger Installation

The heat exchanger is the heart of your furnace — it's what transfers heat from combustion to the air circulating through your home. We install quality heat exchangers built to handle the humidity swings that Lakeway's lakeside climate creates, which can accelerate corrosion in cheaper components. A cracked or failing heat exchanger is a serious safety issue, and we don't cut corners on this part of the job.

Furnace Replacement for Older Homes

Lakeway has a loyal base of homeowners who've been in their homes since the 80s and 90s, and many of those original furnaces are well past their service life. We specialize in swapping out legacy systems in these established homes, working around older duct configurations and tight utility closets that newer installs rarely have to deal with. We do the job cleanly and leave the space better than we found it.

Preventive Maintenance After Installation

A new furnace is a significant investment, and routine maintenance is what protects that investment over the long haul. We offer ongoing maintenance plans that keep your system clean, calibrated, and running efficiently through every heating season. Lakeway homeowners who stay on a maintenance schedule consistently get more years out of their equipment.

Heating System Repairs

Even after a new installation, issues can come up — a faulty ignitor, a failing blower motor, or a sensor that needs adjustment. Our team handles furnace and heating repairs quickly so you're not stuck without heat when a cold front drops temperatures overnight. We keep common parts stocked so most repairs are handled in a single visit.

Indoor Air Quality Integration

Lakeway's proximity to Lake Travis means humidity levels fluctuate more than in inland Austin neighborhoods, and that moisture can affect your indoor air quality alongside your heating system. When we install a new furnace, we can integrate air filtration, humidity control, and ventilation components that work with your heating system as a complete comfort solution. Better air is part of a better heating system.

We Know Lakeway Homes

Lakeway has a character that's different from the rest of the Austin metro. You've got well-established neighborhoods with homes built close to the shoreline in the 70s and 80s sitting right alongside newer subdivisions that have gone up in the last decade. Those older homes often have original ductwork that was undersized from the start, furnaces that are decades past their intended service life, and attic spaces that weren't insulated with today's efficiency standards in mind. We've been in enough of these homes to know where the problem spots are before we even pull out the diagnostic tools.

Being this close to Lake Travis also means humidity is a constant factor — not just in summer, but year-round. That moisture accelerates wear on heat exchangers, affects duct integrity, and means the equipment we install needs to be selected with that environment in mind. Lakeway is also a community where people stay put and take care of their homes for the long term, and that's exactly how we approach our work here. We're not selling a quick install and moving on — we're building relationships with homeowners who want a team they can call again.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does furnace installation cost in Lakeway, TX?
Furnace installation in the Lakeway area typically ranges from $3,000 to $7,500 or more, depending on the size of your home, the efficiency rating of the unit you choose, and the condition of your existing ductwork. Older Lakeway homes with aging or undersized ducts may require additional duct work before a new furnace can be installed effectively, which adds to the total cost. High-efficiency units (90%+ AFUE) cost more upfront but deliver real savings on monthly heating bills over time. We always provide a full, itemized quote before any work begins so there are no surprises. The best way to get an accurate number is to have one of our technicians assess your specific home.
How long does a furnace installation take in a Lakeway home?
Most furnace installations in Lakeway take between four and eight hours, depending on the complexity of the job. Straightforward replacements in homes with accessible equipment areas and intact ductwork are typically on the faster end. Older homes — particularly those built in the 1970s and 80s near the lake — sometimes have tighter utility spaces or ductwork that needs attention before the new unit can go in, which can add time. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we assess your home, and we work efficiently so you're not without heat any longer than necessary.
What size furnace do I need for my Lakeway home?
Furnace sizing depends on your home's square footage, ceiling height, insulation quality, window area, and local climate factors. In Lakeway, homes near Lake Travis also deal with higher ambient humidity levels that affect how your heating system performs, which factors into proper sizing. An oversized furnace short-cycles and wears out faster, while an undersized one can't keep up on cold nights. We perform a Manual J load calculation before recommending any equipment — it's the only accurate way to size a furnace for a specific home. Don't trust any contractor who quotes you a unit size without first seeing your home.
Does humidity near Lake Travis affect my furnace?
Yes, and it's something we see consistently in Lakeway homes. The humidity that comes with being close to Lake Travis can accelerate corrosion on heat exchangers, degrade ductwork seals over time, and contribute to indoor air quality issues if the heating system isn't set up to manage moisture properly. Homes built in the 70s and 80s in particular often have older heat exchangers that are more vulnerable to this kind of wear. When we install a new furnace in a Lakeway home, we take the local humidity environment into account in the equipment we recommend and how we set up the system. Adding a whole-home dehumidifier alongside a new furnace is something worth discussing if your home runs damp in winter.
How long should a new furnace last in a Lakeway home?
A properly installed and maintained furnace should last 18 to 25 years in most Central Texas homes. In Lakeway, where humidity and temperature swings near the lake can be more pronounced than in inland areas, regular maintenance matters a bit more to protect the system's longevity. Annual tune-ups that clean burners, inspect the heat exchanger, and check for moisture-related wear can meaningfully extend service life. Skipping maintenance is the fastest way to shorten the life of a furnace — we've seen systems fail in under 12 years due to neglected upkeep. A maintenance agreement after installation is a smart way to protect what you've invested.
My Lakeway home was built in the 1980s — do I need to update my ductwork before getting a new furnace?
Not always, but it's worth a careful inspection before installing new equipment. Many 1980s homes in Lakeway have ductwork that was undersized or poorly sealed from the start, and decades of humidity cycling near the lake can degrade duct connections and insulation over time. Installing a high-efficiency furnace into a compromised duct system means you're losing a lot of that efficiency before the air ever reaches your rooms. We inspect ductwork as part of every installation assessment and give you an honest assessment of what needs attention and what can stay as-is. In some cases, targeted duct repairs or sealing are all that's needed — a full duct replacement isn't always necessary.
