About Our Mini Split Services in Georgetown

Georgetown's rapid growth has created a unique challenge: homes built decades apart are sitting side by side, each with completely different HVAC needs. Older homes near the square often lack the ductwork to support a conventional system, making ductless mini splits the smart and cost-effective choice. On the other end of the spectrum, newer master-planned communities in Georgetown are building larger homes with rooms that traditional systems struggle to heat and cool evenly — sunrooms, bonus rooms, and garage conversions that need independent climate control.

Cold is on the Right has been working across Georgetown long enough to understand those differences firsthand. We size and install mini split systems based on your home's actual layout and cooling demands, not a generic formula. Whether you need a single-zone unit for an added room or a multi-zone system to cover your whole house, we'll walk you through every option with upfront pricing and no surprises on the invoice.

Mini Split Services We Provide in Georgetown

Mini Split Installation

We install ductless mini split systems in Georgetown homes of all ages and sizes. From selecting the right unit for your square footage and sun exposure to mounting the indoor air handler and running the refrigerant lines, we handle every step of the installation with care. Georgetown's mix of slab foundations and pier-and-beam homes means our installers come prepared for whatever your home presents.

Multi-Zone Mini Split Systems

Multi-zone mini splits connect multiple indoor air handlers to a single outdoor unit, letting each room or zone maintain its own temperature independently. This is especially popular in Georgetown's larger newer homes where a teenager's upstairs bedroom and the main living area have completely different cooling needs. We design multi-zone configurations that make sense for your floor plan and your family's habits.

Mini Split Repair

When your mini split stops cooling, starts making unusual noises, or throws an error code, our technicians can diagnose and repair it quickly. Common issues include refrigerant leaks, dirty coils, faulty sensors, and drainage problems — all of which we see regularly in Georgetown's humid summers. We stock common parts and work efficiently to get your system back online without a drawn-out wait.

Mini Split Maintenance

Regular maintenance keeps your mini split running efficiently and extends the life of the system. Our tune-ups include cleaning the air filters and coils, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting electrical connections, and testing the drainage line — all critical steps in Georgetown's dusty, pollen-heavy environment. A well-maintained mini split uses less energy and is far less likely to fail on the hottest day of August.

Ductless Mini Split Replacement

If your existing mini split is more than 12 to 15 years old or has needed repeated repairs, replacement is often the more cost-effective choice. We'll assess your current system honestly and recommend replacement only when it genuinely makes sense for your budget and comfort goals. Georgetown homeowners can count on us to source quality equipment and complete the swap with minimal disruption to your home.

Mini Split for Room Additions and Garage Conversions

Room additions and garage conversions are common in Georgetown as families grow into their homes, but extending ductwork to a new space is often impractical or expensive. A dedicated mini split for the new space solves the problem cleanly, with no major construction required. We handle everything from permit requirements to final installation so your new space is comfortable from day one.

Learn More

Heat Pump Mini Splits

Many modern mini splits function as heat pumps, providing both cooling in summer and efficient heating in winter — a major advantage during Georgetown's mild but real cold snaps. Heat pump mini splits are significantly more energy-efficient than electric resistance heat and work well down to low outdoor temperatures. We can help you choose a unit that handles Central Texas winters without relying on a separate heating system.

Mini Split for Historic Homes

Georgetown's historic district is filled with beautiful older homes that were never designed with modern HVAC in mind. Installing ductwork in these homes can be invasive, expensive, and sometimes impossible without damaging original trim and walls. A ductless mini split system is often the best answer, delivering reliable comfort while preserving the character of your home. We have experience working carefully in older construction and know how to keep the installation clean and unobtrusive.

Mini Split Refrigerant Service

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons a mini split underperforms, and it almost always signals a leak rather than normal consumption. Our technicians locate the source of the leak, make the repair, and recharge the system to factory specifications. Running a mini split low on refrigerant shortens compressor life and drives up your energy bill, so it's worth addressing the moment you notice the system struggling.

Mini Split Diagnostics and Troubleshooting

Modern mini splits communicate problems through error codes, but decoding them correctly requires hands-on diagnostic experience. Our technicians are trained on major mini split brands including Mitsubishi, Daikin, LG, and others, and can pinpoint the issue without guessing. Georgetown homeowners don't have to sit through multiple visits to figure out what's wrong — we come prepared to find the answer on the first call.

Mini Split System Design and Consultation

Not sure whether a single-zone or multi-zone system is right for your Georgetown home? We offer consultations where we walk through your home, assess your needs, and put together a clear recommendation with pricing. There's no pressure and no vague estimates — just honest advice from technicians who work in Georgetown homes every week.

We Know Georgetown Homes

Georgetown's housing stock spans more than a century. The homes near downtown and around the historic square were built in an era when window units were the norm, and many of them still lack any meaningful ductwork. When we assess these homes, we account for older construction materials, tighter attic spaces, and walls that can't accommodate standard HVAC penetrations the way modern builds can. That context shapes how we plan every mini split installation, so the result works with the home rather than against it.

On the other side of Georgetown, massive master-planned communities like Wolf Ranch, Teravista, and Parkside at Mayfield Ranch are full of large newer homes where the builder-installed HVAC system wasn't designed to handle every corner of the floor plan equally well. Sunrooms, upstairs bonus rooms, and home offices in these neighborhoods frequently become hot spots that the central system can't fix. We've installed a lot of mini splits in Georgetown's newer subdivisions for exactly that reason, and we understand the construction methods used in those homes as well as we understand the older ones.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install a mini split in a Georgetown home?
A single-zone ductless mini split installation in Georgetown typically runs between $2,500 and $5,000 depending on the brand, capacity, and complexity of the installation. Multi-zone systems covering two or more rooms can range from $5,000 to over $10,000 depending on how many indoor units are needed. Older Georgetown homes near the historic district may add some cost if the installation requires additional electrical work or creative routing around original construction. We always provide a written quote before any work begins so there are no surprises.
Can a mini split work in an older Georgetown home that has no existing ductwork?
Yes, and that's actually one of the main reasons ductless mini splits are so popular in Georgetown's older neighborhoods. Because mini splits don't require ductwork, they're a natural fit for homes built before central HVAC was standard. The installation involves mounting an indoor air handler on the wall or ceiling, running a small set of refrigerant lines through a three-inch hole to the outdoor unit, and connecting to a dedicated electrical circuit. The process is far less invasive than adding ductwork would be, and it preserves the character of older homes.
How long does a mini split installation take in Georgetown?
Most single-zone mini split installations are completed in one day, typically four to six hours depending on the home layout and any electrical prep work needed. Multi-zone systems covering three or more rooms may take a full day or extend into a second day. Georgetown homes with tricky attic access, pier-and-beam construction, or older electrical panels can add some time to the process. We'll give you a realistic timeline when we assess your home so you can plan accordingly.
Do mini splits work well for heating in Georgetown winters?
Modern heat pump mini splits are very effective for heating in Georgetown's climate. Most current models maintain strong heating performance down to outdoor temperatures of 5 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit, which covers everything Georgetown typically sees in winter. They're also significantly more efficient than electric strip heat, which means lower energy bills during cold snaps. If you're considering a mini split primarily for cooling but want heating capability too, choosing a heat pump model is the right move for Central Texas.
How often should I have my mini split serviced in Georgetown?
We recommend scheduling a professional mini split tune-up once a year, ideally in the spring before Georgetown's summer heat sets in. During a maintenance visit, we clean the air filters and coils, check refrigerant levels, inspect the condensate drain, and verify all electrical connections. Georgetown's pollen-heavy springs and dusty conditions mean coils and filters accumulate buildup faster than in some climates, so regular cleaning matters more here than in many other areas. Beyond the annual visit, homeowners should clean or rinse the removable air filters every one to two months.
My mini split is blowing air but not cooling my Georgetown home. What's wrong?
The most common causes of a mini split that runs but doesn't cool are low refrigerant due to a leak, a dirty evaporator coil restricting airflow, a frozen coil caused by restricted airflow or a refrigerant issue, or a faulty compressor. In Georgetown's humid summers, condensate drain clogs are also common and can cause the system to shut down cooling as a protective measure. Most of these issues are diagnosable and fixable without replacing the unit, but the right answer depends on what's actually happening inside the system. A technician visit is the quickest way to find out.
