About Our HVAC Repair in Georgetown

Georgetown isn't a one-size-fits-all community, and neither are its HVAC systems. The older craftsman and Victorian homes near the downtown historic district often have aging ductwork, older equipment, and unique installation challenges that newer-construction technicians aren't always prepared to handle. At Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air, we're comfortable working in crawl spaces, attic conversions, and tight mechanical closets — whatever the older housing stock throws at us.

On the other end of the spectrum, Georgetown's massive master-planned communities are full of homes built within the last decade, packed with modern variable-speed systems, smart thermostats, and multi-zone setups. These systems are more efficient but also more complex to diagnose when something goes wrong. Our technicians stay current on the latest equipment so whether you're in a 1920s bungalow or a 2022 build, you're getting a technician who actually knows your system.

HVAC Repair Services We Provide in Georgetown

AC Repair

When your air conditioner stops cooling in the middle of a Georgetown summer, it stops being an inconvenience and starts being a health issue. We diagnose and repair all makes and models — refrigerant leaks, failed capacitors, frozen coils, compressor issues, and more. If it can be fixed, we'll fix it; if it needs replacing, we'll tell you honestly.

Furnace Repair

Georgetown winters are mild compared to most of the country, but when a cold front drops overnight temps into the 20s, a malfunctioning furnace is a real problem. We repair gas and electric furnaces, addressing ignition failures, cracked heat exchangers, blower motor issues, and faulty limit switches. Fast service means you won't be freezing through a North Texas blue norther.

Learn More

Heat Pump Repair

Heat pumps are increasingly common in Georgetown's newer master-planned communities because they handle both heating and cooling efficiently. But when they fail — reversing valve issues, refrigerant loss, defrost cycle problems — you lose both functions at once. Our technicians understand the full heat pump system and can restore it quickly.

Heating Repairs

Beyond furnaces and heat pumps, Georgetown homes use a variety of heating systems — including older electric strip heat units common in homes built in the 1980s and 90s. We repair the full range of residential heating equipment, diagnosing the root cause rather than just treating symptoms. Getting your heat back on fast is always the priority.

HVAC Maintenance

Georgetown's combination of Cedar Park cedar pollen, Hill Country dust, and rapid population growth means HVAC filters and coils take a beating. Regular maintenance keeps your system running efficiently, extends its lifespan, and helps catch small problems before they become expensive failures. We offer maintenance visits for all system types across Georgetown's diverse housing stock.

HVAC Replacement

If your system is beyond repair — or if the repair cost exceeds what makes financial sense — we'll walk you through replacement options with no pressure. Georgetown homeowners in older homes especially benefit from upgrading to modern, right-sized equipment that matches updated insulation levels and square footage. We size and install new systems properly so you're not dealing with the same problems in two years.

Learn More

Thermostat Repair and Replacement

A faulty thermostat can make a perfectly functional HVAC system behave erratically — short cycling, refusing to reach set temperature, or not communicating with smart home platforms. We diagnose whether the issue is the thermostat itself or a wiring and compatibility problem, especially common in Georgetown homes where older wiring meets newer smart thermostats.

Ductwork Inspection and Repair

Georgetown's older homes near the historic downtown district frequently have ductwork that's been modified, patched, or poorly sealed over the decades. Leaky ducts waste conditioned air, drive up energy bills, and contribute to uneven temperatures room to room. We inspect, seal, and repair duct systems so your HVAC equipment isn't working twice as hard for half the result.

Refrigerant Leak Detection and Recharge

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons an AC system stops cooling effectively, and it always means there's a leak somewhere in the system. We locate the leak, repair it properly, and recharge the system to manufacturer specifications — not just top it off and send you a bill. Skipping the leak repair is just a short-term fix that costs more in the long run.

Capacitor and Contactor Replacement

Capacitors and contactors are among the most commonly failed components in central AC systems, especially units that have been running hard through Georgetown's long, hot summers. These parts wear out, and when they fail the system either won't start or won't run properly. Replacement is typically fast and affordable, and it can extend the life of an otherwise healthy system significantly.

Blower Motor Repair

The blower motor is what circulates conditioned air through your home, and when it starts to fail you'll notice weak airflow, unusual noises, or a system that runs but doesn't heat or cool effectively. This is a common issue in Georgetown homes with aging HVAC systems in the 10- to 20-year range. We repair or replace blower motors and check related components to make sure the fix holds.

We Know Georgetown Homes

Georgetown's housing stock spans more than a century, and that range creates real challenges for HVAC technicians who only know one type of home. The historic homes clustered around the downtown square often have original ductwork routed through tight, unconventional spaces, and systems that have been pieced together over multiple decades of additions and upgrades. Working in those homes requires patience, experience, and a technician who isn't thrown off by something that doesn't look like a textbook installation.

The newer master-planned communities — Sun City, Wolf Ranch, Teravista, Serenada — present a different set of challenges. Homes built to tight specs with modern two-stage and variable-speed systems need a technician who understands how to diagnose and communicate with sophisticated equipment, not just swap parts. Georgetown also sits at the edge of the Hill Country, where limestone soil, dust, and temperature swings between seasons can accelerate wear on outdoor units and coils. Knowing all of that before we walk in the door is what makes Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air the right call for Georgetown homeowners.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does HVAC repair typically cost in Georgetown?
HVAC repair costs in Georgetown vary widely depending on what's wrong and what system you have. Common repairs like capacitor or contactor replacement typically run between $150 and $350. More involved repairs like a refrigerant leak fix and recharge can run $300 to $600 or more depending on refrigerant type. Blower motor replacements usually fall in the $400 to $700 range. We always provide an upfront estimate before starting any work so there are no surprises.
How long does an HVAC repair take?
Most standard HVAC repairs in Georgetown take between one and three hours once a technician is on-site. Simple component swaps like capacitors or contactors can be done in under an hour. More complex repairs involving refrigerant leaks, ductwork, or blower motors may take longer, especially if parts need to be sourced. We'll give you a realistic time estimate after the diagnostic so you know what to plan for.
My AC is running but not cooling — what's wrong?
This is one of the most common calls we get during Georgetown summers, and it usually points to a handful of issues. Low refrigerant from a leak is the most frequent culprit, but a dirty evaporator coil, a failing capacitor, a clogged air filter, or a malfunctioning compressor can all cause the same symptom. A proper diagnostic is the only way to know for sure — trying to guess without testing usually leads to paying for the wrong repair. We check all of it before recommending anything.
Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?
A good rule of thumb is the 5,000 rule: multiply the age of your system by the estimated repair cost, and if that number exceeds $5,000, replacement is often the better investment. Georgetown homes with systems over 12 to 15 years old that are facing major repairs — compressor failure, heat exchanger cracks, significant refrigerant issues — are usually better off with new equipment. Newer systems in the 5 to 10 year range with straightforward repairs are almost always worth fixing. We'll give you an honest read on your specific situation, not a sales pitch.
How often should I have my HVAC system serviced in Georgetown?
In Georgetown's climate, we recommend twice-a-year maintenance — once in spring before cooling season kicks in and once in fall before you need heat. The high pollen counts from cedar and oak, combined with dusty Hill Country air, mean your filters, coils, and drain lines take on more debris than in some other climates. Regular maintenance extends equipment life, keeps efficiency up, and catches small problems before they become expensive failures. Older homes and older systems especially benefit from consistent attention.
Do you service all HVAC brands?
Yes, we work on all major HVAC brands including Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, York, American Standard, Bryant, and others. Georgetown's newer master-planned communities have a wide variety of equipment installed by different builders, and we're familiar with all of it. We also work on older and less common systems found in the historic downtown area. Brand is rarely a limitation — what matters is having a technician who knows how to properly diagnose the system in front of them.
