About Our Water Softeners in Bee Cave

Bee Cave sits in the Hill Country west of Austin, where the water supply carries significant mineral content. Calcium and magnesium concentrations are high enough to leave visible buildup on fixtures, inside pipe walls, and throughout the mechanical systems of your home. For newer construction homes with tankless water heaters, high-end fixtures, and modern appliances, hard water isn't just an annoyance — it's a real threat to equipment that costs thousands of dollars to replace.

Cold is on the Right works with Bee Cave homeowners to match the right water softening system to their specific water quality, household size, and plumbing setup. We start with a thorough water quality test so you know exactly what you're dealing with before we recommend anything. Our installations are clean, professional, and backed by warranty — because in a community like Bee Cave, doing things right the first time is the only way we do them.

Water Softener Services We Provide in Bee Cave

Water Quality Testing

Before recommending any system, we measure the hardness level, chlorine content, and other mineral concentrations in your water supply. Bee Cave water can vary depending on your specific source and service area, so accurate testing is the foundation of every recommendation we make. You'll know exactly what's in your water before we touch a single pipe.

Salt-Based Ion Exchange Water Softeners

Salt-based systems are the most effective solution for the hard water common throughout the Lake Travis corridor. These systems swap calcium and magnesium ions for sodium ions, delivering genuinely soft water to every tap, appliance, and fixture in your home. We size the system correctly for your household so you're not running through salt unnecessarily or leaving hardness behind.

Salt-Free Water Conditioners

Some Bee Cave homeowners prefer a salt-free approach, whether due to sodium sensitivity, HOA restrictions, or personal preference. Salt-free conditioners don't remove hardness minerals but do neutralize them so they can't bond to surfaces and form scale. It's a low-maintenance option that still protects your plumbing and appliances from mineral buildup.

Whole-House Water Filtration Systems

Water softening addresses hardness, but whole-house filtration goes further — removing chlorine, sediment, volatile organic compounds, and other contaminants before water reaches your family. We frequently combine softening and filtration systems in Bee Cave homes where both mineral content and treated municipal water quality are concerns. The result is water that's genuinely clean throughout your entire home.

Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Systems

For Bee Cave homeowners who want the highest quality water at the kitchen tap, a reverse osmosis system installed under the sink delivers exceptional results. RO systems filter out dissolved solids, heavy metals, chlorine, and other contaminants at the point of use. Paired with a whole-house softener, it's a complete solution for water quality from the shower to the glass.

Water Softener Installation

Our licensed plumbers handle the full installation process, from locating the right point of entry in your plumbing system to connecting the brine tank and programming the control valve. Newer Bee Cave homes often have specific plumbing configurations that require an experienced eye — we've worked in enough of them to know what to expect. Every installation is tested before we leave to confirm the system is delivering soft water properly.

Water Softener Replacement

If your existing softener is more than 10 to 15 years old and starting to fail, replacement is often more cost-effective than continued repairs. We assess your current system, discuss your options honestly, and install a properly sized replacement with minimal disruption to your home. Many Bee Cave homes that were built in the early 2000s are hitting that replacement window right now.

Water Softener Repair and Servicing

Softeners can develop issues with the control valve, resin bed, brine draw, or bypass — and when they do, your water quality drops quickly. We diagnose and repair all major brands of water softener systems, getting your unit back online without the cost of a full replacement when repair is the right call. Fast turnaround matters when your appliances and plumbing are being exposed to hard water every day.

Tankless Water Heater Scale Protection

Tankless water heaters are extremely common in newer Bee Cave construction, and they are particularly vulnerable to scale buildup from hard water. Mineral deposits inside the heat exchanger reduce efficiency and can cause premature failure in systems that cost $1,000 or more to replace. Installing a softener upstream of your tankless unit is one of the smartest investments a Bee Cave homeowner can make.

Appliance Protection Consultations

High-end dishwashers, refrigerators with ice makers, steam ovens, and washing machines all suffer when hard water runs through them day after day. We can walk through your home, assess which appliances are most at risk, and recommend the right combination of softening and filtration to extend their lifespan. It's the kind of consultation that pays for itself quickly in avoided repairs and replacements.

Plumbing Inspections for Hard Water Damage

Hard water doesn't just affect the outside of your fixtures — it builds up inside supply lines, at valve seats, and inside connection fittings over time. We inspect your plumbing system for scale-related damage and address any issues before they become costly failures. Catching this early in a newer home is far cheaper than dealing with it after years of mineral accumulation.

We Know Bee Cave Homes

Most homes in Bee Cave were built within the last 20 years, which means the plumbing systems are modern but the hard water challenge is just as real as anywhere else in Central Texas. Newer construction often includes tankless water heaters, multi-zone plumbing systems, and premium fixture packages — all of which are significantly more sensitive to mineral scale than older standard equipment. We've worked in enough Bee Cave neighborhoods to know where the plumbing entry points typically are, how these systems are configured, and what installation approach causes the least disruption to a finished home.

Being in the Lake Travis area also means we're familiar with the water conditions specific to this part of Travis County, where treated municipal water still carries enough calcium and magnesium to cause real problems over time. The Hill Country hardscape doesn't filter much out before it reaches the water table, and that shows up in water quality tests consistently. When you call Cold is on the Right, you're getting a team that already understands what Bee Cave water looks like before we even pull out the test kit.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the water in Bee Cave, TX?
Water hardness in the Bee Cave and Lake Travis area typically runs between 200 and 400 parts per million, which falls in the very hard to extremely hard range. The Hill Country geology means groundwater picks up significant calcium and magnesium before it ever reaches the treatment facility. Even after municipal treatment, the mineral content remains high enough to cause visible scale buildup and appliance wear over time. A water quality test gives you the precise number for your specific address, which helps us size the right system for your household.
Will a water softener damage my tankless water heater?
A properly installed water softener will actually protect your tankless water heater, not harm it. Tankless units are especially sensitive to scale because mineral deposits build up inside the narrow heat exchanger passages, reducing efficiency and eventually causing failure. Softened water eliminates that buildup, which is one of the primary reasons we recommend softeners to Bee Cave homeowners with tankless systems. The key is correct sizing and installation — an undersized softener won't fully protect the unit, which is why the water test and proper system selection matter so much.
How much does a water softener installation cost in Bee Cave?
For most Bee Cave homes, a complete water softener installation typically runs between $1,200 and $3,500 depending on the system type, the size needed for your household, and the complexity of the plumbing connection. Salt-based ion exchange systems are at the lower end of that range for standard installs, while combination softener and filtration systems or more complex plumbing situations run higher. We always provide a firm quote after the water test and before any work begins, so you know the full cost upfront. Financing is available if you'd prefer to spread the cost out.
How often does a water softener need salt, and what kind should I use?
Most households need to add salt to the brine tank every four to eight weeks, though that varies based on water hardness, household size, and system settings. We recommend high-purity pellet or crystal salt, and we'll advise you on what works best with the specific system we install. When you're running low, you'll notice the brine tank is less than one-third full — that's the time to add more. At your first salt refill, check for salt bridges, which are hardened crusts that form above the water line and can prevent the system from regenerating properly.
Do I need a water softener if my Bee Cave home is relatively new?
Yes — and in some ways, newer homes have more to lose. Modern construction in Bee Cave typically includes tankless water heaters, high-end fixtures, multi-stage dishwashers, and smart appliances, all of which are sensitive to mineral scale. Hard water damage doesn't care how new your equipment is, and many homeowners in newer builds don't realize they have a hard water problem until a tankless unit starts underperforming or fixtures lose their finish. Installing a softener early in a home's life is significantly cheaper than dealing with scale-related repairs and premature appliance replacement down the road.
What's the difference between a water softener and a water filter, and do I need both?
A water softener specifically targets hardness minerals — calcium and magnesium — through an ion exchange process. A water filter addresses a broader range of contaminants including chlorine, sediment, chloramines, and potentially heavy metals or volatile organic compounds. They solve different problems, and for many Bee Cave homeowners, using both together delivers the best overall water quality. A whole-house softener protects your plumbing and appliances, while a point-of-use reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink handles drinking water purity. We can assess your water quality test results and recommend whether one system or a combination makes the most sense for your home.
