About Our Mini Split Services in Bee Cave

Bee Cave's newer construction boom means a lot of homes were built with traditional ducted HVAC systems that weren't necessarily designed for every square foot of livable space. When you add a wine cellar, a home office above the garage, a casita for guests, or a finished outdoor living area, those spaces often fall outside what your central system can efficiently handle. Mini splits solve that problem cleanly — no new ductwork, no compromising your home's aesthetics, and no fighting over the thermostat.

We work with leading ductless brands and size every system to the specific room or zone we're conditioning. Whether you're cooling a single bonus room or installing a multi-zone system across a larger Bee Cave home, our licensed HVAC technicians bring the kind of detail-oriented approach that this market expects. We protect your finishes, work cleanly, and leave your home the way we found it — just more comfortable.

Mini Split Repair

If your mini split is blowing warm air, cycling on and off, leaking refrigerant, or throwing an error code, our technicians can diagnose and fix it fast. We carry common parts on the truck so many repairs get resolved in a single visit. Bee Cave homeowners shouldn't have to wait days for a repair call — we keep our schedules tight and our response times quick.

Mini Split Maintenance

Annual maintenance keeps your mini split running efficiently and extends the life of the system. Our tune-up includes cleaning the air filters and coils, checking refrigerant levels, inspecting electrical connections, and testing the unit across all operating modes. Skipping maintenance is one of the top reasons mini splits fail prematurely — especially in Central Texas where units run hard for months at a time.

Multi-Zone Mini Split Systems

Larger Bee Cave homes often have multiple spaces that need independent climate control — a primary suite, a home office, a guest wing, or an entertainment room. Multi-zone mini splits connect multiple indoor air handlers to a single outdoor unit, giving you precise control over each area without the cost and complexity of a second full HVAC system. We design and install multi-zone setups that are clean, efficient, and easy to operate.

Mini Split Replacement

When your existing mini split has reached the end of its useful life or no longer meets your home's demands, we handle full replacement with a properly sized, energy-efficient unit. We remove the old system, dispose of it responsibly, and install the new one with the same care we bring to every job. Upgrading to a current-generation inverter-driven mini split can mean real savings on your monthly energy bill.

Heat Pump Mini Splits

Most modern mini splits function as heat pumps, providing both cooling in summer and efficient heating in winter — a major advantage for Bee Cave's climate, where mild winters still call for supplemental heat. Heat pump mini splits are far more efficient than electric resistance heat, and they're a smart alternative for spaces that lack gas lines. We install and service heat pump mini splits throughout the Lake Travis corridor.

Ductless AC for Home Additions and Bonus Rooms

Home additions and bonus rooms — whether above a garage, attached casita, or converted space — are notoriously hard to condition with an existing central system. A dedicated mini split unit is often the cleanest and most effective solution, delivering reliable cooling and heating exactly where it's needed without overworking your main HVAC. We size these units carefully to match the square footage, ceiling height, and sun exposure of the specific space.

Outdoor Living Space Cooling

Bee Cave's expansive covered patios and outdoor living areas are some of the best features of homes in this market, but the Texas heat can make them unusable for months. Purpose-built mini splits designed for outdoor or semi-conditioned spaces can extend your usable season significantly without the noise and expense of a portable unit. We assess your outdoor space and recommend a setup that handles the heat and humidity without shorting out from exposure.

Mini Split Refrigerant Service

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons a mini split loses cooling capacity, and it's not something that can be topped off without also identifying and fixing the source of the leak. Our technicians are EPA-certified to handle refrigerants, and we follow proper recovery and recharge procedures every time. We'll find the leak, repair it, and restore your system to the correct charge so it runs the way it was designed to.

Smart Thermostat Integration

Many premium mini split brands now support Wi-Fi control and integration with smart home platforms like Google Home and Amazon Alexa. We can configure your new or existing mini split to work with your preferred smart home setup, giving you remote control, scheduling, and energy monitoring from your phone. For Bee Cave homeowners who expect their home technology to work together seamlessly, this is a worthwhile add-on.

Mini Split System Assessment

Not sure whether a mini split is the right solution for your home or a specific space? We offer honest, no-pressure system assessments to help you understand your options. We'll evaluate the space, your existing HVAC setup, and your goals for comfort and efficiency before recommending anything. The right answer isn't always a mini split — but when it is, we'll tell you exactly why and what to expect.

We Know Bee Cave Homes

Bee Cave has grown fast, and most of the housing stock reflects that — we're talking custom and semi-custom homes built primarily in the 2000s through today, with modern construction standards, larger square footage, and architectural features that don't always play nicely with off-the-shelf HVAC solutions. Open floor plans, high ceilings, and extensive glass facing the Hill Country or Lake Travis views all change the thermal load calculation significantly, and getting the sizing right on a mini split matters more than most homeowners realize.

The Hill Country climate adds another layer to the equation. The combination of intense summer sun, low humidity swings, and cooler winter nights means systems that perform well in other parts of Austin can struggle out here. We've spent years working in this specific market, and we know which units hold up, how to properly mount and route line sets on stucco and stone exteriors without damaging finishes, and what Bee Cave homeowners expect from a service call — which is a technician who shows up on time, communicates clearly, and does the job right the first time.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install a mini split in a Bee Cave home?
Single-zone mini split installations in the Bee Cave area typically run between $2,500 and $5,000 installed, depending on the unit capacity, brand, and complexity of the line set routing. Multi-zone systems that serve several rooms or spaces can range from $6,000 to $15,000 or more, depending on the number of zones and the unit specifications. Premium brands with advanced features or installations that require longer line set runs or special exterior wall treatments will sit at the higher end. Always get a proper load calculation done before committing to a specific unit — oversizing or undersizing a mini split is one of the most common and costly mistakes homeowners make.
Can a mini split handle both cooling and heating in Bee Cave's climate?
Yes, and for most Bee Cave applications it handles both very well. Modern inverter-driven mini splits operate as heat pumps, meaning they move heat rather than generate it — which makes them highly efficient even in mild winter temperatures. Bee Cave winters are generally mild, but temperatures can drop into the low 30s on occasion, and most quality heat pump mini splits continue operating efficiently down to around 5 degrees Fahrenheit. For a bonus room, casita, or home office that needs year-round comfort, a heat pump mini split is often the most energy-efficient solution available.
How long does a mini split installation typically take?
A single-zone mini split installation usually takes between three and six hours, depending on where the indoor unit is being mounted and how complex the line set routing is. Multi-zone installations covering several rooms can take a full day or more. Homes with stucco or stone exteriors — common in Bee Cave — require a bit more care when penetrating the exterior wall and routing line sets cleanly, which can add some time. We'll give you a realistic time estimate during the assessment so you can plan accordingly.
Do mini splits work well in open floor plan homes?
Mini splits work well in open floor plans when sized correctly, but it's important to understand that a single wall-mounted unit isn't always enough to condition a very large or irregularly shaped open space. For larger open living areas, a ceiling cassette unit offers better air distribution and can handle more square footage effectively. In some cases, a two-zone setup covering an open living area from two directions gives better comfort than a single powerful unit. We'll evaluate your specific floor plan before recommending a configuration so you get even coverage throughout the space.
How often should I service my mini split in Bee Cave?
Annual maintenance is the standard recommendation for mini splits in Central Texas, ideally scheduled in spring before the heavy cooling season begins. At a minimum, you should clean or replace the air filters on the indoor units every four to eight weeks during periods of heavy use — clogged filters are the number one cause of reduced efficiency and premature coil problems. In the Lake Travis area, the combination of dust from open roads and construction, along with seasonal cedar and oak pollen, means filters accumulate debris faster than in more urban settings. Annual professional service keeps refrigerant levels correct, coils clean, and drainage clear, which adds years to the life of the system.
Can I add a mini split to my Bee Cave home without affecting my existing HVAC system?
Yes, that's one of the biggest advantages of mini splits. They operate completely independently from your existing ducted HVAC system, so adding one for a bonus room, casita, or outdoor living space doesn't affect your central system at all. The only requirement is a dedicated electrical circuit for the outdoor condenser unit. Many Bee Cave homeowners use mini splits exactly this way — keeping their central system for the main living areas while adding targeted comfort solutions for spaces that the existing system can't efficiently reach. It's a practical and cost-effective approach that avoids the expense and disruption of expanding ductwork.
