About Our Heat Pump Repair in Bee Cave

Bee Cave has grown into one of the most desirable communities west of Austin, and with that growth has come a wave of newer construction homes built in the 2000s through today. These homes commonly feature high-efficiency heat pump systems — variable-speed compressors, smart thermostats, zoned air handlers — that are more capable than older HVAC equipment but also more complex to diagnose when something goes wrong. At Cold is on the Right, we stay current on the technology installed in Bee Cave's newer housing stock so we can repair it properly.

The Hill Country climate west of Austin puts real demands on heat pump systems. Summer heat drives extended run times, and even mild winters can push a heat pump's auxiliary heat into overdrive if the system isn't operating efficiently. We understand how Bee Cave's elevation, humidity swings near Lake Travis, and dust from surrounding limestone terrain affect HVAC performance. When you call us, you get technicians who know this area and the equipment in it — not a call center dispatcher guessing at your issue from across town.

Heat Pump Repair Services We Provide in Bee Cave

Heat Pump Diagnostic and Inspection

If your system is underperforming but you're not sure why, we start with a thorough diagnostic to pinpoint the root cause. We check refrigerant levels, electrical connections, capacitors, reversing valves, and airflow — everything that affects how a modern heat pump operates in a Bee Cave home. You get a clear explanation of what's wrong and what it will cost to fix before any work begins.

Learn More

Refrigerant Leak Detection and Recharge

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons heat pumps lose their heating and cooling capacity, and it doesn't fix itself — there's always a leak somewhere. We use electronic leak detection to locate the source, repair it properly, and recharge the system to manufacturer specifications. Newer Bee Cave homes often use R-410A or R-32 systems, and we're equipped to handle both.

Learn More

Reversing Valve Repair and Replacement

The reversing valve is the component that allows your heat pump to switch between heating and cooling modes — when it fails, your system may get stuck in one mode or stop conditioning air altogether. This is a repair that requires precision and familiarity with the specific heat pump model installed in your home. We diagnose valve issues accurately so you're not paying for parts you don't need.

Learn More

Capacitor and Contactor Replacement

Capacitors and contactors take a beating during long Texas summers, and they're among the most common components that fail in heat pump systems. A bad capacitor can prevent your compressor or fan motor from starting, leaving your home without cooling on the hottest days. We carry common replacement parts so we can often complete this repair on the first visit.

Learn More

Compressor Repair and Evaluation

A failing compressor is one of the more serious heat pump issues — it's the heart of the system, and when it goes, your unit can't move heat in either direction. We evaluate whether a compressor repair is viable or whether replacement makes more financial sense, giving you an honest assessment rather than automatically pushing you toward a new system. For newer Bee Cave homes still within warranty periods, we'll help you understand what's covered.

Learn More

Air Handler and Blower Motor Service

The air handler circulates conditioned air throughout your home, and a failing blower motor or dirty coil can dramatically reduce comfort even when the outdoor unit is working fine. In larger Bee Cave homes with multiple zones, a single air handler problem can affect entire wings of the house. We clean, repair, and replace air handler components to restore proper airflow and efficiency.

Learn More

Thermostat and Controls Troubleshooting

Modern heat pump systems in Bee Cave's newer homes often rely on smart thermostats and multi-stage controls that can be tricky to configure correctly after a repair or power surge. We diagnose communication errors between the thermostat and the heat pump, fix wiring issues, and ensure your controls are set up to match your system's capabilities. A properly configured thermostat can make a measurable difference in both comfort and energy bills.

Learn More

Defrost Cycle Repair

Heat pumps rely on a defrost cycle to prevent ice buildup on the outdoor unit during cooler weather — when this cycle malfunctions, the unit ices over and loses heating capacity. In Bee Cave's Hill Country winters, where temperatures can drop quickly overnight, a broken defrost cycle can leave your home cold within hours. We test the defrost board, sensors, and controls to get this critical function working again.

Learn More

Ductwork Inspection and Sealing

Even a perfectly repaired heat pump won't perform well if conditioned air is leaking out through poorly sealed ducts. In newer Bee Cave construction, duct connections sometimes loosen over time due to settling or thermal expansion. We inspect duct runs, identify leaks, and seal them properly so the efficiency gains from your heat pump system actually reach the living spaces in your home.

Learn More

Preventive Maintenance After Repair

After repairing your heat pump, we offer a full maintenance tune-up to clean coils, check all electrical connections, lubricate moving parts, and verify system operation from start to finish. Bee Cave homeowners who maintain their systems regularly see fewer emergency calls and longer equipment life — which matters when you're protecting a significant investment in a high-end home. Ask about our ongoing maintenance plans when we're on-site.

Heat Pump Replacement Consultation

Sometimes a repair isn't the right answer — if your heat pump is reaching the end of its service life or the repair cost approaches a significant percentage of replacement cost, we'll tell you honestly. We walk you through replacement options that make sense for your home's size, layout, and comfort goals, including high-efficiency systems that pair well with Bee Cave's newer smart-home infrastructure.

We Know Bee Cave Homes

Most of Bee Cave's residential growth happened in the last two decades, which means we're typically working on heat pump systems that are 5 to 20 years old — modern equipment that's past its break-in phase but well within its serviceable life. These homes tend to run Carrier, Trane, Lennox, and Daikin systems with variable-speed technology and multi-zone setups, and diagnosing them correctly requires more than general HVAC experience. We know the specific failure patterns these systems develop and we come prepared to address them.

The location adds its own variables. Bee Cave sits in the Hill Country transition zone where limestone dust, cedar pollen, and humidity variations off Lake Travis all affect how HVAC systems perform and age. Outdoor coils get dirty faster here than in areas with less airborne particulate, and systems near the lake see more humidity-related stress on electrical components. Understanding those factors is part of how we diagnose and repair heat pumps in this community — not just fixing what's broken today, but helping your system hold up through what comes next.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does heat pump repair typically cost in Bee Cave?
Heat pump repair costs in Bee Cave generally range from around $150 for simple fixes like capacitor replacements up to $1,500 or more for refrigerant leak repairs or reversing valve replacements. Compressor issues are on the higher end, sometimes reaching $2,000 or beyond depending on the system. The wide range is because heat pumps are complex systems with many components, and the diagnostic step is essential to giving you an accurate number. At Cold is on the Right, we always provide upfront pricing after the diagnostic so you know exactly what you're agreeing to before any repair work begins.
Why is my heat pump not heating my Bee Cave home even though it's running?
This is one of the most common complaints we get during Hill Country winters, and it usually points to one of a few things: a refrigerant leak that's reduced the system's ability to absorb heat, a malfunctioning reversing valve that's preventing the system from switching into heating mode, or a defrost cycle problem that's allowing ice to build up on the outdoor unit. A dirty air filter or restricted airflow can also cause this symptom. A proper diagnostic will identify which issue applies to your system — running the heat pump continuously when it's not actually heating can sometimes cause additional damage, so it's worth getting it checked promptly.
How long does a heat pump repair appointment take in Bee Cave?
Most heat pump repairs are completed in two to four hours once we're on-site, though this depends on what the diagnostic turns up. Straightforward repairs like capacitor or contactor replacements are often done in under an hour. More involved work like refrigerant leak detection and recharge, or reversing valve replacement, takes longer. We carry a wide inventory of common parts on our service vehicles, which reduces the chance of needing to schedule a return visit. We'll give you a realistic time estimate once we've identified the problem.
Is it worth repairing a heat pump in a newer Bee Cave home, or should I replace it?
For most of Bee Cave's newer homes, repair is absolutely worth considering — these are relatively young systems with years of service life remaining. A general rule of thumb is that if the repair cost is less than half the cost of replacement and the unit is under 10 to 12 years old, repair usually makes more financial sense. Compressor failures are the main exception, since compressor replacement on an older unit can approach the cost of a new system. We'll give you an honest assessment of both options, including what the long-term efficiency and warranty picture looks like, so you can make the call that's right for your home.
Why does my heat pump ice over in winter near Bee Cave?
Some frost on the outdoor unit during cold weather is normal — heat pumps extract heat from outside air and the coils can frost during that process. The system has a built-in defrost cycle designed to melt that frost periodically. When you see heavy ice buildup that doesn't clear on its own, that indicates the defrost cycle isn't functioning properly — it could be a faulty defrost control board, a bad temperature sensor, or a stuck reversing valve. Low refrigerant can also cause icing. Hill Country winters can drop into the low 30s or upper 20s quickly, which puts real demand on the defrost function, so this is a repair you don't want to put off.
Can Cold is on the Right service the specific heat pump brand installed in my Bee Cave home?
Yes — Bee Cave's newer homes tend to be equipped with systems from Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Daikin, and Rheem, among others, and our technicians are experienced with all of these brands. We service both single-stage and variable-speed systems, as well as ducted and ductless configurations. If your home has a geothermal heat pump or a more specialized system, give us a call and we'll let you know upfront whether it's within our scope. In most cases, we can work on whatever's installed in your home.
