About Our Sewer Line Replacement in Westlake

Westlake homes built between the 1970s and 1990s were constructed with the materials standard at the time: cast iron, Orangeburg, or clay sewer lines that have a natural lifespan. After 40 or 50 years underground, those pipes crack, corrode, collapse, or get infiltrated by the aggressive root systems that come with Westlake's mature oak and cedar trees. When that happens, a patch or a camera inspection isn't enough — you need a full replacement done by someone who understands what's under these older properties.

Cold is on the Right brings real experience to Westlake sewer replacements. We use modern, long-lasting pipe materials and offer trenchless options where the layout of your property allows it, minimizing disruption to landscaping and hardscaping you've invested in. From diagnosis to installation to cleanup, we treat your home the way it deserves to be treated — with expertise, care, and honest pricing from the start.

Sewer Line Replacement Services We Provide in Westlake

Full Sewer Line Replacement

When your sewer line has failed beyond repair, we replace the entire run from your home to the city connection. In Westlake's older properties, this often means removing deteriorated cast iron or clay pipe and installing modern PVC that will last for generations. We handle everything from permits to final inspection.

Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement

Trenchless pipe bursting lets us replace your sewer line with minimal digging, which is a major advantage in Westlake where mature landscaping and established hardscaping are worth protecting. We pull a new pipe through the path of the old one, eliminating the line without tearing up your yard. It's faster, cleaner, and causes far less disruption to your property.

Sewer Line Camera Inspection

Before we recommend any replacement, we run a high-resolution camera through your sewer line to see exactly what's happening underground. This is especially valuable in Westlake homes where the original pipe layout isn't always documented. We show you the footage and explain what we find in plain language so you can make an informed decision.

Root Intrusion Removal and Prevention

The large, established trees that give Westlake neighborhoods their character are also one of the most common causes of sewer line failure. Tree roots seek out moisture and can infiltrate even small cracks in aging pipes, eventually causing full blockages or structural collapse. We remove root intrusions and can recommend the right replacement strategy to prevent the problem from recurring.

Sewer Cleanout Installation

Many Westlake homes from the 1970s and 1980s either lack proper sewer cleanout access points or have them in inconvenient locations. During a replacement project, we install correctly placed cleanouts that make future maintenance and emergency access straightforward. It's a smart addition that saves time and money down the road.

Cast Iron Pipe Replacement

Cast iron sewer pipes were the standard in Westlake construction for decades, and while they were durable in their time, many are now corroded, scaled with buildup, or cracking from age. We specialize in identifying cast iron failure patterns common in this era of home construction and replacing them with modern pipe that restores full flow capacity. This is one of the most common sewer projects we handle in Westlake.

Drain Line Replacement

Sewer line problems often start closer to the house, in the drain lines that connect individual fixtures to the main line. If you're dealing with recurring slow drains, gurgling sounds, or localized backups, the issue may be a deteriorated drain line rather than the main sewer. We can replace individual drain lines or coordinate a full system upgrade as part of a larger project.

Emergency Sewer Line Service

A backed-up or failed sewer line is not a problem you can put off. Raw sewage backup is a health hazard, and in a Westlake home, it can cause serious damage to finished interiors quickly. Cold is on the Right offers emergency service when the situation can't wait, and we arrive ready to diagnose and act — not just take a look and schedule a follow-up.

Whole-Home Plumbing Assessment

When your sewer line needs replacement, it's often a signal that other aging systems in the house deserve attention too. We offer a whole-home plumbing assessment that gives you a clear picture of what's in good shape and what's approaching the end of its service life. For Westlake homeowners managing older luxury properties, this kind of proactive planning makes a real difference.

Sewer Line Repair

Not every damaged sewer line needs full replacement. If the damage is localized to a specific section, a targeted repair can restore function at a lower cost. We assess each situation honestly and only recommend full replacement when it's genuinely the right call — not just the most profitable one.

Post-Replacement Cleanup and Site Restoration

We know Westlake homeowners care deeply about their properties, and we treat every job site with that in mind. After sewer line replacement is complete, we backfill properly, compact the soil, and restore any disturbed areas as close to their original condition as possible. If excavation affected landscaping or hardscaping, we communicate about what was impacted and how to address it.

We Know Westlake Homes

Westlake's housing stock is largely made up of substantial homes built during a period of significant Austin-area growth in the 1970s through the 1990s. These are well-built properties — but the original plumbing systems, including sewer lines made of cast iron or clay, are now well past their typical service life. The Hill Country terrain means pipes were often laid through rocky soil, and the mature live oaks and cedars throughout the area have had decades to work their roots toward any available moisture source underground.

When we come out to a Westlake property, we're not guessing about what we might find. We've worked on enough homes in this community to know what materials were used, where the common failure points are, and how the local tree species interact with underground plumbing over time. That familiarity lets us move efficiently, make accurate assessments, and give you a clear recommendation without unnecessary back-and-forth. Westlake homeowners expect a high level of expertise, and that's exactly what Cold is on the Right brings to every project.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my Westlake home needs sewer line replacement versus a repair?
The answer usually comes down to what a camera inspection reveals. If the damage is isolated to a short section of pipe, a targeted repair may be the right call. But in Westlake homes built in the 1970s and 1980s, we often find that the pipe has deteriorated throughout its length, which makes full replacement the more practical and cost-effective solution over the long term. Recurring blockages, widespread corrosion, or structural collapse are all indicators that patching won't solve the underlying problem. We always give you an honest assessment based on what the camera shows, not what costs more.
How long does a full sewer line replacement take for a typical Westlake home?
Most sewer line replacements on Westlake properties take between one and three days depending on the length of the line, the method used, and any complications with soil or access. Trenchless replacement is typically faster than traditional open excavation. Permit processing can add time before work begins, but we handle that process and keep you informed throughout. You will generally need to avoid using the home's plumbing during active work, so we coordinate carefully to minimize disruption.
Can tree roots really destroy a sewer line, and is that common in Westlake?
Yes, and it is genuinely one of the most common causes of sewer line failure we see in Westlake. The community's mature live oaks, cedar elms, and other established trees have extensive root systems that actively seek moisture, and aging sewer pipes with even minor cracks become targets. Roots enter through small openings and then grow inside the pipe, eventually causing full blockages or structural failure. In some cases we can clear roots and do a targeted repair, but when the roots have been at work for years in already-deteriorated pipe, replacement is usually the only lasting fix. The age of Westlake's tree canopy makes this a particularly relevant concern for homeowners in the area.
