About Our Heat Pump Installation in Westlake

Westlake's housing stock tells a story — stately homes built in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, tucked beneath mature oaks and cedars on generous lots west of Austin. Many of these homes were originally fitted with high-end HVAC equipment that, decades later, is reaching or well past the end of its useful life. Cold is on the Right understands what it takes to replace aging systems in these homes properly, from sizing a new heat pump to account for vaulted ceilings and large square footage to working carefully in finished spaces where the original installation left little room to spare.

A modern heat pump installation does more than just swap out old for new. In Westlake's climate, where summers are brutally hot and winter cold snaps arrive unexpectedly, a properly installed heat pump handles both heating and cooling from a single efficient system. Our licensed technicians take the time to assess your home's actual load requirements, recommend the right equipment for your space, and install it with the precision that Westlake homeowners expect. We don't cut corners, and we don't leave until the system is performing exactly as it should.

Heat Pump Services We Provide in Westlake

New Heat Pump Installation

Whether you're replacing a failed system or upgrading from a separate furnace and AC setup, we install modern heat pumps sized and configured for your specific Westlake home. We perform detailed load calculations to account for large floor plans, high ceilings, and the shading effects of Westlake's mature tree canopy. The result is a system that performs efficiently from day one.

Heat Pump Replacement

Many Westlake homes are still running HVAC equipment installed in the 1990s or earlier. When repair costs start climbing or efficiency drops noticeably, a full replacement is often the smarter long-term investment. We help you evaluate your options honestly and install a replacement system that matches the demands of your home without unnecessary upsells.

Heat Pump Repair

Not every problem calls for a full replacement. Our technicians diagnose heat pump issues quickly and accurately, whether it's a refrigerant problem, a failing compressor, or a sensor that's causing short cycling. For Westlake's older premium systems, getting the diagnosis right the first time matters — and that's exactly what we do.

Mini-Split Heat Pump Installation

Westlake's older homes often include bonus rooms, converted garages, or detached guest spaces that the original HVAC system was never designed to condition. Ductless mini-split heat pumps are a clean, highly efficient solution for these areas, providing independent temperature control without the need to extend existing ductwork. We handle the full installation from start to finish.

Air-Source Heat Pump Installation

Air-source heat pumps are the most common choice for Westlake homes, efficiently transferring heat between the outdoors and your living space rather than generating it from scratch. In Central Texas's mild winters, air-source systems operate at excellent efficiency levels for most of the heating season. We install and configure these systems to maximize performance in the Hill Country climate.

Ductwork Evaluation and Modification

A new heat pump is only as effective as the duct system it's connected to. In homes built in the 1970s and 1980s, ductwork may be undersized, leaking, or routed in ways that create hot and cold zones throughout the house. Before installation, we evaluate your existing ducts and recommend any modifications needed to get balanced, efficient airflow from your new system.

Thermostat and Controls Upgrade

Older Westlake homes frequently have thermostats that aren't compatible with modern heat pump systems or simply can't deliver the precise control that today's equipment is capable of. We install smart thermostats and updated control systems that communicate properly with your new heat pump, making it easier to manage comfort and track energy use from anywhere.

HVAC Maintenance Plans

A heat pump is a significant investment, and regular maintenance is what keeps it running efficiently for the long haul. Our maintenance plans are designed for Westlake homeowners who want consistent performance and early warning when something isn't right — before it becomes an expensive failure. We check refrigerant levels, clean coils, inspect electrical connections, and more.

AC Installation

If a traditional split system is a better fit for your home's layout or existing infrastructure, we install high-efficiency central air conditioning systems as well. For Westlake homes with older, oversized duct systems, a well-matched AC installation can dramatically improve comfort and reduce energy bills compared to running an undersized or aging unit.

Indoor Air Quality Assessment

Westlake's mature trees are beautiful, but they also mean higher pollen loads and organic debris that can accumulate in older HVAC systems and reduce indoor air quality. When we install a new heat pump, we assess your filtration and ventilation setup and can recommend upgrades that keep your home's air clean and comfortable throughout the year.

Emergency HVAC Service

When an HVAC system fails during a summer heat wave or an unexpected winter freeze, Westlake homeowners shouldn't have to wait. Cold is on the Right offers emergency service for situations that simply can't wait for a regular appointment. Call (512) 271-2172 and we'll get someone out to you as quickly as possible.

We Know Westlake Homes

Westlake is unlike most of the communities we serve. The homes here were built with quality in mind — large square footage, custom layouts, stone and wood construction, and landscaping that's had 30 or 40 years to grow into something truly beautiful. That same age means the mechanical systems inside many of these homes are overdue for a serious look. We've worked in enough Westlake homes to know that what looks like a straightforward HVAC replacement often involves ductwork that was never quite right to begin with, equipment closets that weren't designed for modern unit dimensions, and thermostats that have been jury-rigged over the decades to accommodate a mix of equipment upgrades.

The Hill Country terrain and tree cover that make Westlake so desirable also create real considerations for HVAC performance. Homes shaded by mature oaks behave differently than exposed properties when it comes to heat gain and loss, and the rocky soil that characterizes much of this area can complicate outdoor unit placement. We account for all of it when we assess your home and recommend equipment. Westlake homeowners have high standards, and so do we.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does heat pump installation cost in Westlake?
Heat pump installation in Westlake typically ranges from $5,000 to $12,000 or more depending on the size of your home, the type of system, and whether any ductwork modifications are needed. Westlake's larger homes with more square footage and higher ceilings generally require more capacity, which affects equipment cost. Ductless mini-split systems for a single zone are at the lower end of that range, while a full whole-home replacement with duct work in a large custom home can run higher. We provide upfront pricing after assessing your specific home so you know exactly what to expect before any work begins.
How long does a heat pump installation take in an older Westlake home?
A standard heat pump replacement in Westlake typically takes one full day for our installation team. Homes with complications, such as ductwork that needs rerouting, tight equipment closets common in older construction, or systems being installed in multiple zones, may require a second day. We'll identify anything that could extend the timeline during our initial assessment so you're not caught off guard. Most Westlake homeowners are back to a fully conditioned home by the same evening the installation begins.
How long will a new heat pump last in the Westlake climate?
A properly installed and maintained heat pump typically lasts 15 to 20 years in Central Texas. The Westlake climate is relatively favorable for heat pump longevity since winters are mild and the system doesn't have to work as hard in heating mode as it would in colder climates. What shortens heat pump life most consistently is deferred maintenance, undersizing that causes the system to run constantly, or poor installation that stresses components from the start. Annual maintenance inspections help catch small issues before they cause early failures and keep the system running at peak efficiency throughout its lifespan.
