About Our Water Filters & Filtration in Round Rock

Round Rock is one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas, and that growth spans decades — meaning the homes here range from early 1980s builds with original plumbing to brand-new construction that still contends with Central Texas municipal water quality. No matter when your home was built, the water coming out of your tap carries minerals, sediment, and sometimes chlorine levels that affect how it tastes, how it feels, and what it does to your appliances and pipes over time. Cold is on the Right has been helping Round Rock homeowners address those issues with practical, properly sized filtration solutions.

We know that Round Rock residents do their homework before hiring anyone. You're not looking for a sales pitch — you want to know what's actually in your water, what kind of system will fix it, and what it'll cost. That's exactly how we approach every job. We assess your water, explain your options clearly, and install systems that are built to last in Central Texas conditions. No upselling, no vague quotes, no surprises on the bill.

Water Filtration Services We Provide in Round Rock

Whole-Home Water Filtration Systems

A whole-home system filters every drop of water that enters your house — from the shower to the kitchen sink to the washing machine. For Round Rock homes dealing with hard, mineral-heavy municipal water, this is often the most comprehensive solution. We size and install systems that handle the flow demands of your specific home without pressure drops.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems

Reverse osmosis systems deliver highly purified water directly at the tap, removing dissolved solids, chlorine, nitrates, and other contaminants that standard filters don't catch. We install under-sink RO units that fit neatly in kitchen cabinets and provide clean drinking water on demand. Round Rock homeowners with young kids or anyone particular about drinking water quality tend to love these systems.

Under-Sink Water Filters

If a whole-home system isn't in the budget right now, an under-sink filter is a smart, targeted upgrade for your kitchen. These units connect directly to your cold water line and deliver filtered water through a dedicated faucet. They're especially popular in older Round Rock homes where the homeowner wants cleaner drinking and cooking water without a full-system installation.

Sediment Filters

Sediment filters are often the first line of defense in a filtration setup, catching sand, silt, rust, and particulate matter before it reaches your fixtures and appliances. In Round Rock homes — especially those with older supply lines — sediment can be a real issue. We install standalone sediment filters or integrate them into a broader filtration system depending on what your water analysis shows.

Carbon & Activated Carbon Filters

Activated carbon filters are excellent at removing chlorine, chloramines, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that affect the taste and odor of your water. Round Rock's municipal water is treated with chlorine, which is safe but leaves a noticeable taste that many homeowners want gone. Carbon filtration takes care of that efficiently and affordably.

Water Softeners

Hard water is one of the biggest water quality complaints in Round Rock, and a water softener directly addresses the calcium and magnesium minerals that cause scale buildup, dry skin, and shortened appliance lifespans. We install and service softeners sized for your household and integrate them seamlessly with existing filtration setups.

Filter System Maintenance & Filter Replacement

Even the best filtration system stops working well when filters aren't changed on schedule. We offer maintenance visits to inspect, flush, and replace filter cartridges for all major system types. Keeping up with maintenance is especially important in Round Rock where high mineral content can clog filter media faster than in areas with softer water.

Water Quality Testing

Before recommending any filtration solution, we want to know what's actually in your water. We conduct on-site water quality testing to identify hardness levels, pH, chlorine, iron, sediment, and other contaminants specific to your Round Rock home. This takes the guesswork out of choosing the right filtration approach.

Filtration System Upgrades & Replacements

If you've had a water filter installed for several years and it's not performing the way it used to, it may be time for an upgrade. We assess your existing setup, identify what's underperforming, and recommend modern systems that do more for less maintenance. Many Round Rock homeowners are surprised how much filtration technology has improved even in the last five years.

Filtration for New Construction Plumbing

Round Rock continues to see new subdivisions and construction, and getting a filtration system installed during the build or shortly after move-in is the ideal time. We work with homeowners in newer Round Rock developments to get systems roughed in or installed before habits and scale deposits take hold. Starting clean means your plumbing and appliances stay in better shape from day one.

Water Heater Protection Filtration

Hard, unfiltered water is one of the leading causes of early water heater failure in Central Texas. Mineral scale accumulates inside the tank and on heating elements, reducing efficiency and shortening the unit's life. Pairing a water softener or whole-home filter with your water heater is one of the best investments a Round Rock homeowner can make.

We Know Round Rock Homes

Round Rock's housing stock tells the story of a city that grew in waves. The older subdivisions near downtown and along major corridors like 620 and 45 include homes from the 1980s and early '90s with original galvanized or polybutylene supply lines that are well past their prime — those pipes are prone to corrosion and sediment shedding, which is a big reason why filtration matters so much in these neighborhoods. Newer developments farther north and east bring their own quirks: builder-grade plumbing that meets code but isn't always spec'd for the mineral load that Central Texas water delivers day after day.

We've worked in enough Round Rock homes to know that the water here is genuinely hard, and that a system sized for a house in a low-mineral market won't hold up the same way here. We account for that when we spec out filtration solutions, making sure the system you get is matched to your home's age, your household size, and what the water analysis actually shows. Round Rock residents ask good questions, and we show up ready to answer them.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How hard is the water in Round Rock, and do I really need a filter?
Round Rock's water comes primarily from the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority and other municipal sources that draw from Central Texas groundwater and surface water. The hardness typically runs between 150 and 300 parts per million depending on seasonal variation and your specific location in the city, which is considered hard to very hard. At those levels, you'll see scale on fixtures, reduced appliance efficiency, and water that just doesn't taste great from the tap. A filtration or softening system isn't a luxury in Round Rock — for most households, it pays for itself in appliance longevity and reduced bottled water costs within a few years.
What's the difference between a water softener and a water filter, and do I need both?
A water softener addresses hardness specifically by removing calcium and magnesium ions through a process called ion exchange. A water filter addresses a broader range of contaminants — sediment, chlorine, VOCs, nitrates, or whatever your water test shows. In Round Rock, many homeowners benefit from both: a softener to handle the hardness problem and a filter or reverse osmosis unit for cleaner drinking water. That said, some combination systems can handle both functions in one unit. The right answer depends on what your water test shows and what problems are most noticeable in your home.
How much does a whole-home water filtration system cost in Round Rock?
Costs vary based on the type and size of system you need. A basic whole-home sediment or carbon filter typically runs in the $300 to $700 range installed. A water softener installation generally falls between $800 and $2,000 depending on the unit capacity and your plumbing setup. A full reverse osmosis under-sink system usually runs $400 to $900 installed. Whole-home multi-stage systems that combine softening and filtration can range from $1,500 to $4,000 or more. We provide a firm, itemized quote after assessing your water and your home, so you'll know the exact number before committing to anything.
How often do water filters need to be replaced or serviced?
Filter replacement schedules depend on the type of system and how hard your water is. In Round Rock, where mineral content is high, filters tend to load up faster than in softer-water markets. Standard sediment pre-filters often need replacement every three to six months. Carbon filters typically last six to twelve months. Reverse osmosis membrane cartridges usually last two to three years. Water softeners need salt replenishment every four to eight weeks depending on household size and water hardness. We can set you up on a maintenance schedule so you never have to wonder when it's time.
Can a water filtration system protect my water heater and appliances?
Yes, and this is one of the most financially compelling reasons to install filtration in a Round Rock home. Hard, unfiltered water causes mineral scale to accumulate inside water heater tanks and on heating elements, which forces the unit to work harder and shortens its lifespan significantly. The same scale builds up in dishwashers, washing machines, and coffee makers. Installing a water softener or whole-home filter upstream of your appliances reduces that mineral load and can add years to each unit's operational life. Many homeowners find the appliance savings alone justify the cost of the system over a five-year period.
How long does it take to install a water filtration system?
Most water filtration installations are completed in a single visit. An under-sink filter or reverse osmosis system typically takes two to three hours. A whole-home filtration system installation generally runs three to five hours depending on where your main line is located and how your plumbing is configured. Water softener installations are similar in scope. We'll give you a realistic time estimate when we schedule the job so you can plan your day accordingly. There's usually no need to be without water for more than a brief period during the installation itself.
