About Our Water Filters & Filtration in Leander

Leander sits in one of the fastest-growing corridors in Central Texas, and a lot of the homeowners here are buying their first house. That means many people are turning on a tap for the first time in a home they own and not really knowing what to expect from the local water supply. The water in this part of Williamson County tends to run hard, carrying elevated levels of calcium and magnesium that can affect taste, leave buildup on fixtures, and shorten the life of your appliances. A properly matched filtration system makes a noticeable difference from day one.

At Cold is on the Right, we've worked in enough Leander neighborhoods to know the specific concerns that come up here — from chloramine taste in municipal water to sediment issues in homes that were rushed through new construction. We size and install filtration systems that actually fit your home and your family's needs, and we back every installation with honest upfront pricing and real support after the job is done. If you're a first-time homeowner trying to figure out where to start, we're happy to walk you through it.

Water Filtration Services We Provide in Leander

Whole-Home Water Filtration Systems

A whole-home system filters water at the point it enters your house, so every tap, shower, and appliance gets clean, treated water. For Leander families in new construction homes, this is often the most effective way to address hard water and chloramine levels right from the start. We assess your water quality and install a system sized correctly for your household's daily demand.

Under-Sink Drinking Water Filters

Under-sink filters are installed directly at your kitchen faucet and provide high-quality filtered water specifically for drinking and cooking. These are a popular choice in Leander households where the priority is clean drinking water without committing to a full whole-home setup right away. We install reverse osmosis and carbon-based systems depending on what your water test shows.

Reverse Osmosis Systems

Reverse osmosis is one of the most thorough filtration methods available, removing dissolved solids, heavy metals, chlorine, and other contaminants at a molecular level. Leander's municipal water often contains elevated total dissolved solids, and an RO system is one of the best ways to address that. We install under-sink and whole-home RO systems and provide ongoing filter replacement service.

Water Softeners

Hard water is one of the most common complaints we hear from Leander homeowners, and for good reason. The water in this area carries enough mineral content to leave scale buildup on fixtures, reduce soap lather, and wear out water heaters and appliances faster than they should. A water softener works alongside your filtration system to protect your plumbing investment long-term.

Sediment Filters

Sediment filters are the first line of defense in most filtration setups, catching sand, rust, and particulate matter before it reaches your fixtures or other filter stages. In newer Leander developments, construction debris and pipe disturbances can introduce sediment into the water supply temporarily. We install whole-home and point-of-use sediment pre-filters as standalone solutions or as part of a multi-stage system.

Carbon Filtration Systems

Activated carbon filters are highly effective at reducing chlorine, chloramines, and the taste and odor issues that come with them. Many Leander residents on city water notice a distinct chemical taste, especially in newer subdivisions where water main connections are relatively fresh. Carbon filtration is often the most cost-effective solution for improving the taste and smell of your tap water quickly.

Water Filter Replacement & Maintenance

A filtration system only works as well as its filters, and neglected filters can actually start introducing contaminants back into your water. We provide scheduled filter replacement and system maintenance for all major brands and filtration types throughout Leander. Whether your filters are overdue or you just moved into a home and aren't sure when they were last changed, we can get your system back to peak performance.

Water Quality Testing

Before recommending any filtration system, we start with a water quality test so you know exactly what you're dealing with. This is especially valuable for Leander homeowners who are buying a newly built home and haven't had a chance to evaluate the water yet. Testing takes the guesswork out of filtration and ensures we're solving your actual problem, not just selling you equipment you don't need.

UV Purification Systems

UV purification uses ultraviolet light to neutralize bacteria, viruses, and other biological contaminants without adding chemicals to your water. While Leander is on municipal water, UV systems are a popular add-on for families with young children or immunocompromised members who want an extra layer of protection. These systems are low-maintenance and work seamlessly as part of a multi-stage whole-home setup.

Water Heater Compatibility & Protection

Hard, unfiltered water is one of the leading causes of premature water heater failure, and in Leander's mineral-heavy water environment, that's a real concern. Sediment buildup inside your tank reduces efficiency and leads to early replacement. Pairing proper filtration with your water heater setup protects your investment and keeps hot water running reliably for your family.

Filtration System Repairs

When a filtration system malfunctions, whether it's a pressure drop, a leak at a housing connection, or a system that's simply stopped working, you shouldn't have to go without clean water for long. We diagnose and repair filtration systems from all major manufacturers throughout Leander, and we keep common parts on hand to resolve most issues in a single visit. If it turns out a repair isn't cost-effective, we'll give you honest advice about replacement options.

We Know Leander Homes

Most of the homes we work in around Leander were built within the last ten to fifteen years, and a lot of them came out of subdivisions that went up quickly during the big growth surges along 183A. New construction homes aren't immune to water quality issues — in fact, fresh pipe connections, new water mains, and rapid infrastructure expansion can all contribute to higher sediment levels and inconsistent water quality in the early years. We've seen enough of these homes to know what to look for and what filtration setup actually fits the way Leander families use water every day.

We also know that a lot of Leander homeowners are navigating this for the first time. Buying your first home is a lot to take in, and figuring out your water filtration needs doesn't always make it onto the priority list right away. We're not here to overwhelm you with options or push you into a system bigger than you need. We test the water, explain what we find in plain language, and install a solution that makes sense for your home, your family size, and your budget.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

What's in Leander's tap water that I should be worried about?
Leander's water comes from the Brushy Creek Municipal Utility District and other area providers, and like most of Central Texas, it tends to be hard. That means elevated calcium and magnesium levels, which cause scale buildup on fixtures and inside appliances. You'll also typically find chloramines used as a disinfectant, which contribute to the chemical taste some residents notice. Total dissolved solids are generally higher here than in softer water regions. A basic water quality test is the best way to get a clear picture of what's in your specific home's water supply.
How much does a whole-home water filtration system cost in Leander?
Whole-home filtration systems in Leander typically range from around $500 to $2,500 or more depending on the type of system, the size of your home, and what contaminants need to be addressed. A basic carbon filtration system on the lower end can significantly improve taste and odor, while a more comprehensive multi-stage or reverse osmosis whole-home setup will cost more but remove a wider range of contaminants. Installation labor adds to that total, but we give you a firm upfront price after testing your water so there are no surprises. Financing options are available if that helps with the decision.
Do I really need a water filter if I'm on city water in Leander?
City water in Leander is treated and technically safe to drink by regulatory standards, but safe and ideal are two different things. The treatment process itself introduces chloramines, and the hard water mineral content is high enough to affect appliance lifespan, water taste, and skin and hair health over time. Many Leander families choose filtration primarily for the taste improvement and to protect their water heaters and appliances from premature scaling. Whether you need one depends on your priorities, but most households here do see a noticeable benefit from at least a basic filtration setup.
How often do water filters need to be replaced?
Filter replacement schedules vary by system type and water usage. Most sediment pre-filters need to be changed every three to six months, while carbon filters typically last six to twelve months. Reverse osmosis membrane filters generally last two to three years under normal use. In Leander, where water hardness and sediment levels can run higher than average, filters may clog or exhaust faster than manufacturer estimates suggest. We recommend scheduling a maintenance check annually and keeping track of when each filter stage was last replaced, especially if you moved into a home and aren't sure of the existing system's service history.
Can a water filter help extend the life of my water heater?
Yes, and this is one of the most practical reasons to invest in filtration in Leander specifically. Hard water causes calcium and magnesium to precipitate out as scale inside your water heater tank, reducing its efficiency and eventually causing premature failure. That popping or rumbling sound you might hear from your water heater is often sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank. Filtering and softening your water reduces scale accumulation significantly and can extend your water heater's lifespan by several years. It also keeps the unit running more efficiently, which lowers energy costs over time.
I just bought a new construction home in Leander. Do I need a water filter installed?
New construction homes in Leander don't automatically come with water filtration installed, and many buyers don't think to ask about it until they've been living in the home for a while. Beyond the typical hard water and chloramine issues in this area, newer homes and fresh plumbing connections can have higher sediment levels in the first year or two as the infrastructure settles in. It's worth getting a water test done early so you know what you're starting with. Many first-time homeowners in Leander find that even a straightforward under-sink or whole-home carbon filter makes a significant difference in everyday water quality right from the start.
