About Our Water Heater Services in Dripping Springs

Dripping Springs isn't a cookie-cutter suburb, and your water heater service shouldn't be either. Many homes here are on private wells, which means mineral-heavy water that accelerates sediment buildup inside tanks and shortens the lifespan of heating elements faster than most homeowners expect. We factor that in from the first conversation — recommending the right unit size, material, and maintenance plan for what your water supply actually throws at the system.

Whether you're in a newer custom home off RR 12, an established property near Fitzhugh Road, or out on several acres closer to Bee Cave Road, Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air brings licensed plumbers who know Hill Country housing. We carry the inventory, tools, and experience to handle everything from tankless installations in tight utility closets to full replacements on large-capacity traditional units. You'll get honest answers, transparent pricing, and work that holds up long after we leave.

Water Heater Services We Provide in Dripping Springs

Water Heater Installation

Installing a water heater at a Dripping Springs property involves more than swapping out a tank. Our licensed plumbers assess your household's hot water demand, evaluate your water source — whether city supply or private well — and recommend the right unit and location for your home's layout. We handle all connections, permits where required, and make sure the system is dialed in before we leave.

Water Heater Repair

Strange noises, lukewarm water, or a unit that won't recover fast enough between uses are all signs something is off. Well water common to Dripping Springs properties often accelerates sediment buildup and element failure, making repairs more frequent than homeowners expect. Our plumbers diagnose the root cause and fix it right the first time.

Water Heater Replacement

When repair no longer makes financial sense, we help you choose a replacement unit that actually fits your home and water supply. We'll walk you through your options — traditional tank, tankless, or hybrid — and handle the full swap-out, including disposal of your old unit. No surprises, no pressure.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are a strong fit for Dripping Springs homes where demand is high, space is limited, or efficiency is a priority. These on-demand systems eliminate standby heat loss and can be a smart upgrade for custom homes with multiple bathrooms running at once. We size, install, and configure the unit properly so you get the performance you're paying for.

Sediment Flush and Tank Maintenance

Hard, mineral-rich well water is a fact of life for many Dripping Springs homeowners, and it takes a toll on water heater tanks over time. Sediment settles at the bottom of the tank, reduces efficiency, causes popping or rumbling noises, and shortens the life of the unit. A regular flush keeps your system running cleaner and extends the years you get out of it.

Anode Rod Replacement

The anode rod is the part of your water heater that sacrifices itself to prevent the tank from corroding from the inside out. In areas with hard or sulfur-influenced well water like much of Dripping Springs, anode rods burn through faster and need replacement sooner. Ignoring this small part is one of the leading causes of premature tank failure.

Pressure Relief Valve Service

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety component on every tank-style water heater. If it's stuck, corroded, or leaking, it needs to be addressed immediately — this isn't a part you want to defer. Our plumbers test and replace T&P valves as part of both routine maintenance calls and repair visits.

Hybrid and Heat Pump Water Heaters

Hybrid heat pump water heaters use ambient air to assist with heating water, which significantly cuts energy use compared to traditional electric units. For larger Dripping Springs homes with high hot water demand, these systems can deliver real monthly savings. We help you evaluate whether your space and electrical setup support this option before recommending it.

Water Heater Expansion Tank Installation

Homes on closed plumbing systems — which includes many properties with pressure-regulating valves — are often required to have an expansion tank installed alongside the water heater. Without one, pressure fluctuations can stress your system and void the manufacturer warranty. We install expansion tanks correctly and make sure your setup meets code.

Gas Line Connection and Water Heater Service

Many Dripping Springs homes run propane rather than natural gas, and gas-fired water heaters require proper line sizing, regulator compatibility, and safe venting. Our licensed plumbers handle propane and natural gas connections for water heater installations and replacements, making sure everything is leak-tested and code-compliant before the unit goes live.

Emergency Water Heater Service

A failed water heater on a Dripping Springs property isn't just inconvenient — when you're not close to a hotel and your whole household depends on that system, it's urgent. We offer emergency service for homeowners in the area who need fast diagnosis and repair or a same-day replacement when the situation calls for it.

We Know Dripping Springs Homes

A lot of the homes we service in Dripping Springs are custom builds — larger footprints, multiple bathrooms, dedicated utility rooms, and in many cases a propane setup rather than natural gas. That combination means water heater sizing and fuel source compatibility matter more than they do on a standard suburban installation. We've worked on enough of these properties to know what common mistakes look like, and we don't repeat them.

Well water is one of the biggest factors that separates Dripping Springs service calls from what we see closer to the city. The mineral content and occasional sulfur presence in private well water accelerates wear on heating elements, eats through anode rods faster, and leaves sediment in tanks well ahead of schedule. We account for that when we make recommendations — because a water heater that's right for a city home on treated municipal water isn't necessarily the right call for a property off Hamilton Pool Road.

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How does well water affect my water heater in Dripping Springs?
Well water in the Dripping Springs area tends to be high in minerals like calcium and magnesium, and some properties deal with sulfur content as well. That mineral load settles as sediment inside tank-style water heaters, reducing efficiency and causing the popping or rumbling sounds many homeowners notice. It also wears through anode rods significantly faster than treated city water does. If you're on a private well, plan on flushing your tank and inspecting the anode rod more frequently — annually is a reasonable starting point. Ignoring it shortens the life of the unit considerably.
How does well water affect my water heater in Dripping Springs?
The cost depends on the type of unit, the size, your fuel source, and the complexity of the installation. A standard tank-style replacement on a home with straightforward access typically runs in the $1,000 to $1,800 range installed. Tankless systems cost more upfront — often $2,000 to $4,000 or higher depending on the model and whether any gas line or venting work is needed — but they offer long-term energy savings. Propane systems sometimes add cost depending on line sizing and regulator compatibility. We provide upfront quotes before any work begins so you know exactly what you're looking at.
What size water heater do I need for a larger home in Dripping Springs?
Sizing depends on the number of people in your household and your peak hot water demand — not just the square footage of the house. A family of four in a home with three or more bathrooms will typically need a 50-gallon tank at minimum, and many larger custom homes benefit from a 75-gallon unit or a tankless system with a high flow rate. If you're frequently running out of hot water, the unit may simply be undersized for your household's needs. We assess your actual usage patterns and the number of fixtures before making a recommendation, rather than defaulting to a one-size answer.
Is a tankless water heater a good fit for a Dripping Springs home on propane?
Tankless water heaters can work very well with propane, but there are important factors to evaluate first. The unit requires a higher BTU draw than a traditional tank heater, so your propane line needs to be properly sized to supply that demand — undersized lines are one of the most common problems we see on tankless installations in rural areas. Venting requirements also differ by model. When it's set up correctly, a propane tankless system delivers hot water on demand and can reduce fuel consumption noticeably compared to keeping a large tank hot around the clock. We assess your existing setup before recommending a specific unit.
How long should a water heater last in a Dripping Springs home?
Traditional tank water heaters typically last 8 to 12 years under normal conditions, but that range shortens on properties with hard or mineral-heavy well water. Without regular flushing and anode rod maintenance, some units fail in 6 to 8 years. Tankless systems generally last longer — 15 to 20 years — but they require periodic descaling, especially with hard water. If your unit is approaching 10 years old and you're starting to notice performance issues, it's worth having it evaluated. Repairing an aging unit can make sense depending on the problem, but at a certain point replacement is the more cost-effective path.
Do you offer emergency water heater service in Dripping Springs?
Yes. We offer emergency service for water heater failures in Dripping Springs and the surrounding area. A completely failed water heater — whether it's a burst tank, a gas supply issue, or a heating element that's stopped working entirely — is something we treat as urgent. When you call, we'll ask a few quick questions to understand the situation and get a licensed plumber headed your way as soon as possible. If a repair isn't viable, we can discuss same-day replacement options depending on unit availability.
