About Our Mini Split Services in Dripping Springs

Dripping Springs homeowners deal with a unique set of comfort challenges. Many properties here were built without ductwork or with ductwork that simply wasn't designed to cool large, open Hill Country-style floor plans. Mini splits let you heat and cool specific zones independently, which means the workshop, the guest suite over the garage, and the main living area all get exactly what they need without wasting energy on rooms nobody is using. We work with single-zone and multi-zone systems and help you figure out the right configuration before we ever pick up a drill.

We've been out to enough Dripping Springs properties to know that reliability matters more out here than almost anywhere else. When your home sits a few miles off the main road, you need equipment that works and a company that actually shows up when something goes wrong. Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air offers upfront pricing, no hidden fees, and emergency service — because comfort issues don't wait for business hours, and neither do we.

Mini Split Services We Provide in Dripping Springs

Mini Split Installation

We assess your Dripping Springs home's layout, insulation, and existing systems before recommending the right unit and placement. Proper installation means your system runs efficiently from day one and doesn't leave hot or cold spots behind. We handle everything from mounting the indoor air handler to running refrigerant lines and commissioning the unit.

Multi-Zone Mini Split Systems

Many Dripping Springs custom homes have distinct living areas, detached garages, or casitas that need independent temperature control. A multi-zone mini split connects multiple indoor units to one outdoor compressor, so each space gets its own thermostat without the cost and complexity of running ductwork. This setup is especially popular on acreage properties where outbuildings double as offices or guest quarters.

Mini Split Repair

If your mini split is blowing warm air, making unusual noises, or displaying error codes, don't ignore it. Out in the Hill Country heat, a struggling system can fail completely within days. We diagnose and repair all major mini split brands, and we stock common parts so most repairs can be handled in a single visit.

Mini Split Maintenance

Annual maintenance keeps your mini split running efficiently and extends its lifespan significantly. We clean the coils, check refrigerant levels, inspect the condensate drain, and test the system's performance end to end. For Dripping Springs homes where dust, cedar pollen, and outdoor air quality can clog filters faster than you'd expect, regular service is worth every penny.

Mini Split Replacement

When an older unit has hit the end of its useful life, replacing it with a modern, high-efficiency mini split can dramatically cut your energy bills. We help you compare options, handle removal of the old equipment, and install the new system correctly so you're not dealing with callbacks. Dripping Springs homeowners often see significant savings after upgrading from window units or aging central systems.

Heat Pump Mini Splits

Most modern mini splits function as heat pumps, meaning they provide both cooling in summer and efficient heating during the cool Hill Country winters. This is a particularly smart choice for Dripping Springs properties that don't have gas lines and rely on electric or propane heat. We install heat pump mini splits that perform well even when overnight temperatures drop into the 30s.

Ductless System Design and Consultation

Not sure whether a mini split is right for your home or outbuilding? We'll come out, look at the space, and give you an honest recommendation based on square footage, ceiling height, window exposure, and how the property is used. There's no pressure and no guesswork — just a clear plan before any work begins.

Refrigerant Recharge and Leak Repair

Low refrigerant is one of the most common reasons a mini split stops cooling effectively. We test for leaks, repair the source of the problem, and recharge the system to manufacturer specifications. Running a mini split with low refrigerant damages the compressor over time, so catching this early saves you from a much bigger repair bill down the road.

Mini Split for Additions and New Construction

Dripping Springs continues to grow, and many homeowners are adding square footage without extending existing ductwork. Mini splits are the practical choice for room additions, sunrooms, converted barns, and new detached structures. We coordinate with your builder or work directly with you to get the system sized and installed right the first time.

Indoor Air Quality Upgrades for Mini Splits

Mini splits already do a better job of filtering air than many central systems, but we can add filtration and air quality accessories to address cedar fever season and the fine dust common in Hill Country. Cleaner air matters especially if you have family members with allergies or respiratory sensitivities.

Smart Thermostat and Controls Integration

Modern mini splits pair with smart controls that let you manage your home's temperature from your phone, which is especially convenient if you're commuting into Austin and want the house at a comfortable temperature before you pull into the driveway. We set up and test the controls so you know exactly how to use the system before we leave.

We Know Dripping Springs Homes

Dripping Springs is full of custom builds, and no two are exactly alike. We've worked on Hill Country ranch-style homes with thick limestone walls, modern farmhouses with high ceilings and lots of glass, and older structures that were never designed with central air in mind. That variety means cookie-cutter HVAC solutions rarely work out here, and getting the sizing and placement right for a mini split takes real experience with the way these homes are built and how they sit on their lots.

We also know that well water and septic systems are the norm on most Dripping Springs acreage, and that homeowners out this way are used to taking their property's infrastructure seriously. When you invest in a mini split system, you want it installed by someone who understands the full picture of your home, not just the unit going on the wall. That's exactly the kind of local knowledge Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air brings to every job in this community.

High Fives from Austin Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to install a mini split in a Dripping Springs home?
A single-zone mini split installation in Dripping Springs typically runs between $1,500 and $4,000 depending on the brand, capacity, and complexity of the installation. Multi-zone systems covering several rooms or outbuildings can range from $4,000 to $10,000 or more. Properties with longer line set runs — common on acreage lots — can add to the cost. We provide a firm, upfront quote after assessing your specific space so you know exactly what to expect.
How much does it cost to install a mini split in a Dripping Springs home?
Yes, absolutely. Modern mini splits are engineered to perform in extreme heat, and when properly sized for your space they handle Dripping Springs summers just as effectively as a traditional central air system. The key is getting the capacity right — an undersized unit will run constantly and still struggle to cool the space. We size every system based on your actual square footage, ceiling height, insulation quality, and sun exposure before making a recommendation.
Do mini splits work well in older Dripping Springs homes that don't have ductwork?
Mini splits are actually an ideal solution for older Hill Country homes without existing ductwork. Installing traditional central air in an older home often means cutting into walls, running duct through attics in the Texas heat, and significant structural disruption. A ductless mini split requires only a small hole in the wall for refrigerant lines and wiring, which makes installation much less invasive. Many Dripping Springs homeowners with older ranch-style or converted properties have gone this route and been very satisfied with the result.
How long does a mini split installation take?
A single-zone mini split installation usually takes between three and six hours from start to finish. Multi-zone systems or jobs involving longer refrigerant line runs across a larger property can take a full day or extend into a second visit. We'll give you a realistic time estimate after we assess the job, and we'll keep you informed if anything changes on the day of installation. Most Dripping Springs homeowners have their new system running by end of day.
Do mini splits need regular maintenance out in the Hill Country?
Yes, and possibly more often than you'd think. Dripping Springs has cedar, oak pollen, and a fair amount of fine dust that can clog your mini split's filters and reduce airflow significantly if you're not on top of it. We recommend cleaning or replacing filters every four to six weeks during high-use seasons and scheduling a professional tune-up at least once a year. During that visit we check refrigerant levels, clean the indoor and outdoor coils, inspect the condensate drain, and test overall performance. Keeping up with maintenance protects your investment and keeps the system running at peak efficiency.
Can I use a mini split to heat my Dripping Springs home in winter?
Most of the mini splits we install are heat pump systems, which means they provide efficient heating as well as cooling. Hill Country winters are relatively mild but temperatures do dip into the 30s overnight, and modern heat pump mini splits perform well in those conditions. For Dripping Springs homes without natural gas lines — which is common on acreage properties — a heat pump mini split is often the most cost-effective and practical heating solution available. We'll help you select a unit rated for the temperature range you're likely to encounter out here.
