About Our Water Heater Services in Cedar Park

Cedar Park homeowners deal with a specific set of water heater challenges. The area's hard water — common throughout the Austin metro and the Hill Country corridor — accelerates sediment buildup inside tanks, shortening the lifespan of conventional water heaters and reducing their efficiency. In the older established neighborhoods, we frequently see units that are pushing 15 or more years and are well past their reliable working life. At Cold is on the Right Plumbing & Air, we help families in Cedar Park assess where their system stands and make smart decisions before a breakdown forces the issue.

For newer construction in communities like Twin Creeks or the developments along Brushy Creek, we often work with builders and homeowners who want to upgrade from the builder-grade water heater that came with the home. These entry-level units get the job done initially, but they're not always sized well for a family of four or five, which is common in Cedar Park. We provide honest guidance on whether repair, replacement, or an upgrade to a tankless or hybrid system makes the most sense for your household — with no upsells and no pressure.

Water Heater Repair

From a pilot light that won't stay lit to an electric heating element that's burned out, our plumbers diagnose and fix water heater problems quickly. Cedar Park's hard water can cause sediment buildup that mimics more serious issues, so we take the time to properly evaluate what's actually wrong before recommending any repairs.

Water Heater Replacement

Many Cedar Park homes have water heaters that were installed during the construction boom of the early 2000s, meaning they're now aging out. When repair no longer makes financial sense, we'll help you choose a replacement unit that fits your home's needs and your budget, then handle the full swap efficiently.

Tankless Water Heater Installation

Tankless water heaters are a popular upgrade for Cedar Park families who are tired of running out of hot water with multiple people in the house. These systems heat water on demand, free up space in your utility room, and deliver long-term energy savings — a smart choice for high-demand households common in Cedar Park's family-heavy neighborhoods.

Hybrid and Heat Pump Water Heaters

Hybrid electric water heaters pull heat from the surrounding air to warm your water, using significantly less energy than a conventional electric unit. For Cedar Park homeowners looking to cut utility costs while staying reliable, these systems are worth a serious look — especially with energy rebate programs that may apply to your home.

Sediment Flushing and Tank Maintenance

Cedar Park's water supply carries minerals that settle inside your water heater tank over time, creating a layer of sediment that forces the unit to work harder and shortens its lifespan. Regular flushing removes that buildup and is one of the most cost-effective things you can do to extend the life of your water heater.

Pressure Relief Valve Service

The temperature and pressure relief valve is a critical safety component on any tank-style water heater. If it's corroded, stuck, or leaking, it needs to be replaced promptly. Our plumbers inspect and replace these valves as part of routine service and on any repair or replacement call throughout Cedar Park.

Water Heater Expansion Tank Installation

Homes on closed-loop plumbing systems — which are common in newer Cedar Park developments — require an expansion tank to safely handle thermal expansion in the water heater. If your home doesn't have one, you may be putting excess pressure on your plumbing system without knowing it.

Gas Line Service for Water Heaters

Gas water heaters require proper gas line connections and venting to operate safely and efficiently. Our licensed plumbers handle gas line work for new water heater installations and replacements throughout Cedar Park, ensuring your system is up to code and functioning safely from the start.

Emergency Water Heater Service

A water heater that's leaking or completely out can disrupt an entire household fast — especially in a busy Cedar Park family home. We offer emergency service to diagnose the problem, prevent further water damage, and get your hot water back as quickly as possible.

General Plumbing Repairs

Water heater issues sometimes point to broader plumbing problems, including corroded supply lines, failing shut-off valves, or pressure issues in the home's main system. Our team handles those connected repairs so you're not dealing with multiple contractors on the same job.

We Know Cedar Park Homes

Cedar Park's housing stock spans roughly two decades, and the difference between a home built in 2003 and one built in 2020 matters a lot when it comes to plumbing. Older homes in areas like Forest Oaks or Buttercup Creek often have original tank-style water heaters that are well into their second decade and starting to fail quietly — slow sediment buildup, weakening heating elements, and corroding anode rods that go unnoticed until something gives out. We know what to look for in these homes because we've been in hundreds of them.

Newer Cedar Park developments bring a different set of considerations. Builder-grade water heaters are often undersized for the families that eventually move in, and closed plumbing systems in newer construction require expansion tanks that don't always get installed at the time of build. The area's mineral-heavy water affects every home regardless of age, accelerating wear inside tanks and around connections. That local knowledge is exactly what we bring to every service call — we're not guessing at what Cedar Park homes need, we already know.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do water heaters typically last in Cedar Park?
Most conventional tank-style water heaters last 8 to 12 years, though Cedar Park's hard water can shorten that lifespan by accelerating sediment buildup and corrosion inside the tank. If your unit is over 10 years old and you're starting to notice issues like inconsistent heat or noise, it's worth having it evaluated rather than waiting for a failure. Regular maintenance, including annual sediment flushing, can push a unit toward the longer end of its lifespan. Tankless water heaters generally last 15 to 20 years with proper upkeep.
How much does water heater replacement cost in Cedar Park?
A conventional tank-style water heater replacement in Cedar Park typically runs between $900 and $1,600 installed, depending on the unit size, brand, and any additional work needed like expansion tank installation or gas line adjustments. Tankless water heater installations generally start around $1,800 and can go higher depending on whether the gas line or electrical panel needs to be upgraded to support the new system. We provide upfront pricing before any work begins so you know exactly what you're committing to.
Why does my water heater make popping or rumbling noises?
That sound is almost always sediment. Cedar Park's water supply carries dissolved minerals that settle at the bottom of your tank over time, and when the heating element fires, water trapped beneath that sediment layer heats and forces its way through, creating popping or rumbling sounds. It means the unit is working harder than it should, which wastes energy and shortens the tank's life. Flushing the tank removes the buildup, and if the sediment is severe, it may be a sign that replacement is the more cost-effective path.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
A good rule of thumb is to repair if the unit is under 8 years old and the repair cost is less than half the cost of a replacement. If your water heater is pushing 10 to 12 years or older, replacement is usually the smarter investment — especially in Cedar Park where hard water puts additional wear on tanks. We'll give you an honest assessment when we come out, including what we'd do if it were our own home.
Do I need an expansion tank on my water heater in Cedar Park?
If your home is on a closed plumbing system, which is common in newer Cedar Park developments built in the last 10 to 15 years, then yes — an expansion tank is required and may be mandated by local code. Without one, thermal expansion from the water heater can create excess pressure throughout your plumbing, stressing pipes, valves, and fixtures over time. We check for this on every installation and replacement call and will let you know if your home needs one.
