Garbage Disposal Golden Rule

Follow Cold is on the Right Plumbing's Garbage Disposal Golden Rule… always... and help keep that disposal in tip-top shape!

November 30, 2012

Black Friday happens to be one of the busiest days for plumbers… but why?

Clogged kitchen sinks and garbage disposals from all of that food, fat, oil, and grease you tried to put down the drain.

So what is the BEST way to make sure it doesn’t happen to you over the holidays (or any other time)? Follow Cold is on the Right Plumbing’s Garbage Disposal Golden Rule… always.

| If you don’t eat it (or if your body can’t digest it), DON’T put it down the disposal.

Bones, eggshells, fruit pits, seeds, grease, oil, and coffee grounds should never be put down the disposal. Same goes for onion and avocado skins, corn husks, banana peels, and tea bags. Other common culprits are corn kernels, rice, pasta, and potato peels (these turn into a lovely sticky, slimy paste in your disposal).

We’ll say it again… If you don’t eat it (or if your body can’t digest it), DON’T put it down the disposal.
