About Our AC Installation Services in Steiner Ranch

Steiner Ranch is one of the most thoughtfully built communities in the Austin area, with homes constructed mostly between 2000 and 2015. That means many systems are now hitting the 10-to-15-year mark — right when performance starts to decline, efficiency drops, and repair costs start climbing. At Cold is on the Right, we work with homeowners to assess whether their current system has run its course or just needs some attention, and we never push a replacement you don't need.

When a new system is the right call, we install high-efficiency AC units sized correctly for your home's layout, ductwork, and cooling load. Steiner Ranch homes range from mid-size single-stories to large two-story floor plans with significant square footage, and proper sizing matters more than most homeowners realize. An undersized unit will run constantly and never catch up on a 105-degree afternoon. An oversized unit will short-cycle and leave your home feeling clammy. We get the sizing right so your new system actually performs the way it should.

AC Installation Services We Provide in Steiner Ranch

New AC System Installation

We install new central air conditioning systems from the ground up, handling everything from equipment selection to final performance testing. Steiner Ranch homes were built with specific duct configurations and load requirements, and we account for all of it before we ever pull a unit off the truck. You'll know exactly what you're getting before we begin.

AC Replacement

If your current system is beyond repair or simply no longer efficient, a full replacement is often the smarter investment. We remove your old equipment, install a properly sized replacement unit, and verify that everything from airflow to refrigerant charge is dialed in correctly. Many Steiner Ranch homes are now at that replacement window, and we make the transition smooth.

Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps are an increasingly popular choice for Steiner Ranch homeowners who want a single system that handles both cooling and heating efficiently. They perform especially well in Central Texas climates where winters are mild, delivering year-round comfort with lower energy consumption than traditional split systems.

Mini-Split Installation

Ductless mini-split systems are ideal for additions, converted spaces, home offices, or guest suites that your main system doesn't reach effectively. Steiner Ranch homes with bonus rooms over garages or finished basements are prime candidates. We handle the full installation including line sets, electrical connections, and system commissioning.

System Sizing and Load Calculation

Getting the right size system is the foundation of every successful AC installation. We perform Manual J load calculations that account for your home's square footage, insulation, ceiling height, window exposure, and ductwork layout. Steiner Ranch's two-story homes and open floor plans require careful analysis to avoid comfort problems down the road.

Ductwork Inspection and Sealing

Even a brand-new AC system will underperform if your ductwork has leaks, poor connections, or inadequate insulation. Before or during installation, we inspect your existing duct system to ensure it can support your new equipment. In homes built in the early 2000s, duct tape connections that were acceptable at the time often degrade and need proper sealing.

Thermostat Upgrade and Smart Controls

A new AC installation is a great opportunity to upgrade to a smart thermostat that gives you precise control over your home's temperature and energy use. We install and program Wi-Fi-enabled thermostats that integrate with your new system, letting you manage comfort from your phone whether you're home or on the lake.

AC Repair

Not every cooling problem requires a full replacement. If your system is still within a reasonable age range and the issue is mechanical rather than systemic, a targeted repair may restore reliable performance. We diagnose honestly and only recommend replacement when the numbers actually support it.

HVAC Maintenance Plans

A new AC system is an investment worth protecting. Regular maintenance keeps your equipment running at peak efficiency, extends its lifespan, and catches small issues before they become expensive failures. We offer maintenance plans for Steiner Ranch homeowners that include seasonal tune-ups, filter checks, and priority scheduling.

Indoor Air Quality Integration

Steiner Ranch sits close to Lake Travis, and elevated outdoor humidity can work its way inside, especially during shoulder seasons when windows are open. When installing a new system, we can integrate whole-home dehumidifiers, air purifiers, or UV filtration components to give you cleaner, more comfortable indoor air year-round.

Post-Installation System Commissioning

We don't consider a job finished until your new system has been tested, calibrated, and confirmed to be running within manufacturer specifications. That means checking refrigerant levels, airflow at every register, thermostat communication, and electrical connections before we leave your driveway. You shouldn't have to call us back the next day because something wasn't right.

We Know Steiner Ranch Homes

Steiner Ranch is a well-established master-planned community with homes that were largely built between 2000 and 2015 — meaning many original HVAC systems are now entering that critical window where efficiency has dropped and mechanical wear is accumulating. Two-story floor plans, high ceilings, and open living areas are common throughout the neighborhood, and these layouts place real demands on cooling systems that were sized to code minimums fifteen years ago. We've worked in enough Steiner Ranch homes to know which configurations tend to develop hot spots on upper floors and where ductwork routing decisions made during construction create problems over time.

The proximity to Lake Travis adds another layer to consider. Humidity levels near the lake can be noticeably higher than in drier parts of the Austin metro, and that affects how hard your system has to work to maintain comfort and how quickly evaporator coils and drain lines collect buildup. As an HOA community, Steiner Ranch homeowners also have expectations around professional service — clean worksites, respectful technicians, and work that doesn't leave anything looking out of place. That's exactly how we operate, and it's part of why Cold is on the Right has become a trusted name in this neighborhood.

High Fives from Steiner Ranch Homeowners

Graysen and Andrew from Cold is on the Right came out just a couple hours after I called and took care of cutting out my kitchen faucet. They were professional, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable, explaining everything in a straightforward way without any upselling or confusion. It was refreshing to get honest answers and excellent service so quickly. I’ll definitely be using them again for future plumbing needs.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a new AC installation cost in Steiner Ranch?
The cost of a new AC installation in Steiner Ranch typically ranges from $4,000 to $10,000 or more depending on system size, efficiency rating, and whether any ductwork modifications are needed. Larger two-story homes common in Steiner Ranch often require bigger capacity units, which affects the price. High-efficiency systems cost more upfront but can meaningfully reduce monthly energy bills over time. We provide a detailed estimate before any work begins so you know exactly what you're committing to.
How long does an AC installation take in Steiner Ranch?
Most standard AC installations in Steiner Ranch take between four and eight hours to complete in a single day. That timeline covers removing the old equipment, installing the new unit, connecting refrigerant lines and electrical components, and commissioning the system. More complex installations involving ductwork modifications or new equipment configurations may require additional time. We'll give you a realistic time estimate upfront so you can plan your day accordingly.
My Steiner Ranch home was built around 2005 — is it time to replace my AC?
If your system was installed when the home was built, it's now approximately 20 years old, which is well past the typical 15-to-18-year lifespan for a residential AC unit. Even if it's still running, efficiency has likely dropped significantly and the cost of any major repair often rivals the investment in a new system. Common signs that a system this age needs replacement include rising energy bills, inconsistent cooling on upper floors, and refrigerant leaks. A quick assessment can tell you whether you're looking at a repair or a replacement.
Does the humidity near Lake Travis affect how my AC system performs?
Yes, the proximity to Lake Travis can contribute to elevated humidity levels in Steiner Ranch, particularly during spring and early summer. Your AC system handles both temperature and moisture removal, and high humidity makes the system work harder to maintain comfort. An oversized unit can actually make this worse by short-cycling before it has a chance to dehumidify properly. Proper sizing, combined with a well-maintained system, is the most effective way to manage both heat and humidity in your home.
What AC brands do you install in Steiner Ranch?
We install all major residential AC brands including Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Goodman, and others. Our recommendation on brand and model is based on your home's specific needs, your budget, and the efficiency level you're looking for rather than a preferred vendor arrangement. We'll walk you through the options that make sense for your situation so you can make an informed choice. All equipment we install comes with manufacturer warranties and our own installation guarantee.
Do I need to notify my HOA before getting a new AC installed in Steiner Ranch?
It depends on your specific HOA guidelines, but in most cases a straightforward equipment replacement in the same location does not require HOA approval. If the installation involves any exterior changes, new condenser placement, or visible modifications, you may need to submit a request to your HOA before work begins. We recommend checking your HOA rules before scheduling if you have any concerns. Our team works cleanly and professionally, which means the finished installation will meet the standards most HOAs expect.
