About Our Water Filters & Filtration in Dripping Springs

Dripping Springs sits at the edge of the Edwards Plateau, and the water here reflects that geology. High mineral content, sediment, hydrogen sulfide, and varying pH levels are common complaints — especially for residents on private wells pulling from limestone aquifers. We've worked on filtration systems all across the Dripping Springs area, from large acreage properties off RR 12 to newer custom builds in Headwaters and Caliterra, and we understand that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work when every property has its own water source and its own set of challenges.

Cold is on the Right works with homeowners to test their water first, then recommend the right combination of filtration technology — whether that's a sediment pre-filter, an activated carbon system, a UV purifier for well water bacteria, or a full reverse osmosis setup under the kitchen sink. We don't push equipment you don't need. We give you honest information, upfront pricing, and systems that are sized correctly for your home's flow demands. Out here where homes are spread out and service calls matter, you want a company that gets it right the first time.

Water Filtration Services We Provide in Dripping Springs

Whole-Home Water Filtration Systems

A whole-home system installs at your main water line and treats every faucet, shower, and appliance in the house. For Dripping Springs properties dealing with sediment, chlorine, or heavy mineral loads, this is often the most effective long-term solution. We size the system to your home's flow rate and your specific water quality concerns.

Well Water Filtration

Private well water in the Hill Country can contain sediment, iron, sulfur, bacteria, and dissolved minerals that no municipal treatment plant is handling for you. We test your well water and build a filtration stack tailored to what's actually in it — not just a generic system off the shelf. Protecting your family and your plumbing starts with knowing exactly what you're dealing with.

Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems

Reverse osmosis filters push water through a semi-permeable membrane that removes dissolved solids, nitrates, heavy metals, and other contaminants that carbon filters can't fully address. We install under-sink RO systems for drinking and cooking water, which is especially popular in Dripping Springs homes where well water mineral content is high. These systems provide bottled-water-quality water straight from your kitchen tap.

UV Water Purification

Ultraviolet purification is a must-have for well water homes in Dripping Springs. UV systems expose water to germicidal light that neutralizes bacteria, viruses, and other biological contaminants without adding any chemicals to your water. It's a final-stage treatment that pairs well with sediment and carbon filtration for comprehensive well water protection.

Sediment Filters

If your well or supply line is kicking up sand, grit, or particulate matter, a sediment pre-filter is your first line of defense. These filters protect your downstream appliances — water heaters, dishwashers, RO membranes — from grit that wears them out prematurely. On acreage properties in Dripping Springs, sediment is one of the most common filtration complaints we hear.

Carbon & Activated Carbon Filters

Activated carbon filtration is effective at removing chlorine, chloramines, volatile organic compounds, and the earthy or sulfur-like odors that can come from well water or older distribution lines. We install both whole-home carbon systems and point-of-use countertop or under-sink units depending on your needs and budget. Many Dripping Springs homeowners use carbon filtration as a standalone solution or as part of a layered filtration approach.

Water Softeners

The Hill Country's hard water is legendary — high calcium and magnesium levels leave scale on fixtures, cloud glassware, and shorten the life of water heaters and appliances. A water softener works alongside your filtration system to address hardness specifically, protecting your plumbing investment and improving how your water feels. Cold is on the Right installs and services water softeners sized for Dripping Springs home water usage.

Iron & Sulfur Removal Systems

Iron staining on sinks and toilets, and that unmistakable rotten egg smell from hydrogen sulfide, are common in wells throughout the Dripping Springs area. Standard carbon filters won't fully address these issues — you need an iron oxidation filter or an aeration system designed specifically to handle them. We identify the type and concentration of iron or sulfur in your water and recommend the right removal approach.

Water Testing & Analysis

Before recommending any filtration equipment, we believe in testing your water to understand what's actually in it. For Dripping Springs well owners especially, this is a critical step — aquifer conditions vary by location, depth, and season. We use comprehensive water testing to build a filtration recommendation grounded in your actual water chemistry, not assumptions.

Filter Replacement & System Maintenance

Filtration systems only work as well as their maintenance schedule allows — clogged or expired filter media stops protecting your water and can actually make things worse. We offer filter replacement service and annual maintenance checks for systems we've installed as well as units installed by others. Keeping your system performing at spec is especially important in Dripping Springs, where water quality can shift seasonally.

Water Heater Protection & Compatibility

Hard, untreated water is one of the biggest enemies of water heaters — scale buildup on heating elements reduces efficiency and shortens lifespan significantly. Pairing your filtration system with your water heater setup protects both investments and keeps your hot water supply running cleanly. Cold is on the Right can evaluate how your filtration and water heating systems work together.

We Know Dripping Springs Homes

Dripping Springs isn't a cookie-cutter suburb — the homes out here range from older ranch-style builds on multi-acre lots to newer custom construction in master-planned communities like Headwaters, Caliterra, and Bunker Ranch. Older properties on well water often have aging pressure tanks, galvanized lines, and filtration systems that were installed years ago and haven't been serviced since. Newer custom builds can have their own challenges too: high-end fixtures and appliances that are especially sensitive to the hard, mineral-rich water coming out of the ground.

We've spent a lot of time working in Dripping Springs, and we know that when your water tastes like sulfur or your softener goes offline, you're not just inconvenienced — you're managing a property where reliable systems are everything. The drives are longer out here, neighbors aren't next door, and waiting days for a service call isn't acceptable. Cold is on the Right shows up when we say we will, knows what Hill Country well water looks like, and builds solutions that hold up to the local conditions without requiring constant attention.

We contacted Cold is on the Right today with an urgent plumbing need. Their very professional and organized crew arrived within 30 minutes and fixed our issue. We called five other plumbing companies before them and no one was able to help us. Cold is on the Right will now be the first plumbers we call.

We called due to slow drainage and apparently main line backing up into master bathroom shower and sink. There is an automated line that takes your information and apparently works very well. Plumbers Billy and Jeremy showed up promptly after we were informed they were being dispatched this morning, they stayed and worked until the problem was solved and advised on possible future repairs that would need to be done. They were professional, smart, respectful of our home, and efficient in their actions. Let us know what things would cost and were honest in their assessment of what would be needed next and how (un) likely our homeowners insurance would be able to help.  I appreciate the service and the fair treatment by these gentlemen. Thank you.

Santiago and Kyle were amazing during our total HVAC system replacement. Kind, informative, knowledgeable and careful to ensure a smooth install. They were efficient and got my AC working before my family arrived for spring break. Now enjoying the cool air with family. Great pricing and quick turn around from quote to finished job. Thank you! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing HVCA or plumbing work.

These guys are prompt and very polite, and explain your options well without trying to upsell. We thought we needed three things replaced, but they showed us that one of the three just needed an adjustment rather than a replacement. Wonderful service!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is well water in Dripping Springs safe to drink without filtration?
Well water in the Dripping Springs area can be safe, but it varies significantly from property to property and even seasonally. The limestone geology of the Hill Country means water is naturally high in calcium and magnesium, and many wells also show elevated iron, hydrogen sulfide, or bacterial content. The only way to know for certain is to have your water tested — we strongly recommend this before assuming your well water is safe to drink untreated. A comprehensive test typically costs $100 to $300 depending on what you're screening for, and it tells you exactly what filtration you actually need rather than guessing.
Is well water in Dripping Springs safe to drink without filtration?
Most well water in the Dripping Springs area benefits from a multi-stage approach: a sediment pre-filter to catch particulate matter, an activated carbon filter for odors and organic compounds, and a UV purification stage to address bacteria. If you have significant iron or sulfur, an oxidation or aeration filter is added. For drinking water specifically, many homeowners also add a reverse osmosis unit under the kitchen sink. The exact combination depends on your water test results — we never recommend a system without testing first.
How much does a whole-home water filtration system cost in Dripping Springs?
A basic whole-home sediment and carbon filter system typically runs between $500 and $1,500 installed. A more comprehensive well water treatment system with UV purification and iron removal can range from $2,000 to $5,000 or more depending on system complexity and your home's flow demands. A point-of-use reverse osmosis system under the kitchen sink is typically $300 to $800 installed. We provide upfront pricing after testing your water and assessing your home, so there are no surprises on the day of installation.
How often do water filters need to be replaced or serviced?
Filter replacement frequency depends on your water quality and usage. Sediment pre-filters in homes with heavy particulate well water may need replacement every 3 to 6 months, while carbon filters typically last 6 to 12 months. UV lamp bulbs generally need replacement annually to maintain their germicidal effectiveness. Reverse osmosis membranes usually last 2 to 3 years. For Dripping Springs well owners especially, we recommend an annual service visit to check all filter stages, test water quality, and catch anything that's changed in your well.
Can a water filtration system help with the white scale buildup on my fixtures?
Scale buildup is caused by calcium and magnesium hardness — which is a water softening issue rather than strictly a filtration issue. A water softener uses an ion exchange process to remove those hardness minerals before they deposit on your fixtures and inside your appliances. Many Dripping Springs homeowners combine a whole-home filtration system with a water softener to address both contaminant removal and hardness in one setup. We can evaluate your water chemistry and tell you whether a softener, a filter, or both are the right approach for your situation.
Does my filtration system need to be different because I'm on a septic system?
Your filtration system itself isn't directly affected by having a septic system, but the relationship between the two matters. If your septic system is aging or has experienced any issues, there's a risk of biological contamination reaching a nearby well — which is why UV purification is especially important for well water homes on septic. We also make sure that any water softener backwash or filter regeneration discharge is handled in a way that's compatible with septic systems, since high salt loads from certain softeners can disrupt the bacterial balance in your tank. We factor in your full water and waste setup when making recommendations.
